Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Brandon Rowen

Revenge Rule #9: Be the direct opposite of you

The sound of huge doors shutting behind her echoed in the silent living room. Ivy, trying her best not to make too much noise, slowly climbed the stairs.

However, once she got to the top she heard a voice, "What are you doing?"

It was Alex, he was standing by the door to his room staring at her pale face with a frown. Even though they had been married for a year plus they didn't sleep in the same room or have sexual relations like a married couple.

"I..I went to get a glass of water."

"Where is it then?" He glanced at her empty hands with raised eyebrows.

"I drank it in the kitchen..haha...uh why are you awake?" She quickly changed the subject, hoping that the giant dog had left already.

"That's none of your business." Alex grunted and shut the door loudly.

"Tch," Ivy clicked her tongue rolling her eyes, he surely lacked manners and a brain. Fucking idiot.

After signing the contract for The Sapphire Rose project Lilac immediately went back to Country H. Like he promised Alex came to pick her up, he wore a mask and a hat to hide his identity.

"Hi Lilac."

"Oh! I really didn't expect Young Master Dey to really come pick me up." Lilac smiled watching Alex's driver put her luggage in his trunk.

"I never go back on my promises." Alex opened the door for her shrugging.

"Well thank you then."

During the drive Alex tried to start a conversation but Lilac closed her eyes acting like she was asleep to avoid engaging with him. Unlike Country V that was about to get colder and get to winter, Country H was in summer so only the sound of the AC filled the car. She didn't tell Alex the number of her building, only the street she was living in so he could drop her by the entrance of the street. She didn't want someone like Alex knowing where she lived. Apparently that was for nothing. Lilac thought, watching the car pull up in front of her house.

She couldn't believe...actually she could that Alex had found exactly where she lived. There goes my sense of safety.

"Thank you so much for the ride Alex." Lilac sat up rubbing her neck.

"Does your neck hurt? I can massage it for you!" Alex quickly said. His voice a desperate plea, reaching out to her.

"Uh...no need for that but thanks." She almost plastered herself to the door trying to avoid his touch. She suddenly caught sight of someone by the side of her house, Maeve. She shuddered, not from chill but from fear, fear that Alex would see Maeve. Lilac didn't want to involve any one she cared about in her schemes, this was her fight and she didn't want any of them to be used as pawns to get to her.

She quickly leaned closer to Alex blocking his view of Maeve, "Ah...on second thought I'd appreciate it."

Alex beamed, placing his hand on her shoulder. Lilac bent her head, her expression hidden from him. Discreetly she opened her phone and sent a text to Maeve.

[You: 1225, that's the password go in, right now.]

[Maze: How did you know I was outside? Are you in that mafia lord looking car?]

Lilac looked up and saw Maeve staring at the car. She looked like she would walk over any second to check if Lilac was in there.

[You: Maze, Please. Just go in I'll explain later]

[Maze: ...Okay]

She finally breathed a sigh of relief when Maeve disappeared from her view.

"What's wrong? Was I pressing on your neck too hard?"

Lilac shook her head, she had to admit Alex was pretty good at massaging. "No, thanks for this. I need to go in now."

"I'll help you carry your bag."

"Alex...Go home." Lilac said in a serious voice. She smiled again before he could react, got out of the car, took her luggage from his driver and left.

He stood there staring at her back before ordering the driver to drive away.

Lilac managed to spin an elaborate fake story for Maeve, which she believed in a heartbeat.

The only hard part was explaining how Alex was not a mafia lord, all the books was really getting to her best friend's head.

The next day she drove to CRM. Today was the second meeting with ROWEN and the first time she'd be meeting with Brandon Rowen. To her, Brandon was nothing more than a shadow of his father but she wondered if he'd prove different?

For Brandon she had no special feelings, no hatred, no anger, nothing. His father however was the problem, so if Brandon was good then she didn't mind letting him inherit ROWEN.

The appointment was for 2 pm but Lilac arrived at 1 with an assistant, Amy, she had been the one in charge of the project but now she was Lilac's acting assistant to get her acquainted with everything.

They sat in the car without speaking, only the sound of pages flipping filled the car, Lilac was reading about the project and the contract.

"Miss, it's 1:50. Should we go in?" Amy said respectfully, people expected her to be mad about someone sweeping in and taking the project she had worked hard for but she didn't mind so much because Emily had rewarded her with an even better project. Also, she knew Lilac was Emily's sister and there was a probability of her inheriting the company, the only thing she could do was to be in her good graces.

Thinking of this her gaze was filled with so much respect. If Lilac knew what she was thinking she would probably just shake her head, she had no interest in CRM.

"No rush. We'll go in once it's 2:20"

When it was 2 pm Amy's phone rang, it was Brandon's secretary, she asked where they were. Amy glanced at Lilac helplessly.

"Tell them we're on our way" Lilac mouthed.

"We're on our way, the traffic is a bit too much. We'll arrive in a few minutes. Sorry for the delay." Amy replied.

Lilac smiled thinking Smart lady.

2:20"It's 2:20 Miss."

"Let's go, also...call me Boss." Lilac stepped out of the car in her bright red stiletto's, she wore a black pencil skirt with a black jacket with her hair let down, making her look professional and elegant.

"Yes boss." Amy followed her holding a stack of documents into ROWEN.
