Chapter 6 - "The Gacha Group"

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

The draw system was a core part of every single group like this.

For both protagonists and regular members, if you wanted to get stronger—or even break past the limits of your own world—this was your main route.

Rosen skimmed through the rules.

It worked just like most gacha systems in games.

Two types of pools: a limited-time UP pool and a free pool.

Limited pools also pulled rewards from members' worlds and refreshed weekly. If a member's world didn't have any especially rare or mystical items, the system would mix in rare items from other worlds instead.

A single pull from the limited pool cost 100 points.

And the only stable way to earn points? The daily check-in.

Rosen gave it a try.

[System: Member "Shepherd" has checked in and received 5 points.]

"…That's it?"

He couldn't help but mutter.

Any game he'd ever played at least gave out generous starting rewards to keep players hooked.

And to keep people logging in, devs would always throw in events for free-to-play players.

After all, aside from catering to the big spenders, keeping the huge mass of free players happy was essential for a game's popularity.

This chat group… was it trying to feed beggars?

[Shut-in Angel: "You got five points?! You're no ordinary newbie—who are you?!"]

[Blizzard from Hell: "That's some luck. First check-in and you hit five points."]

[Old Mage: "Looks like the newbie's going to have a lucky day."]

Rosen blinked.

Five points was a lot?

Was everyone here okay?

[Shepherd: "It's only five. One limited pull costs a hundred points. That means I'd need at least twenty days for just one."]

He didn't even know if the system had a pity counter.

With or without one, a year's worth of saving barely got you one ten-pull… and even then, plenty of people still came away empty-handed.

Even with a pity guarantee, it didn't mean you'd pull something useful.

[Femme Fatale: "Sure, it's not much—but the highest you can get in a day is five points. Before you, none of us ever hit that. The record was three."]

Sounded impressive, but Rosen couldn't help feeling… underwhelmed.

[Shepherd: "And the number of points has what to do with my luck?"]

[Shut-in Angel: "That's the superstition—your daily check-in points supposedly reflect your luck that day. Just a theory, but it's weirdly accurate."]

[Shut-in Angel: "One day I only got one point, so I figured I'd stay home and dodge bad luck. But when I went to the fridge for a soda, I stubbed my toe on the table leg and just gave up. RIP.jpg"]

Stubbed toe on a table leg?

Ouch. That would hurt.

[Saeko Busujima: "So yeah, three points is normal. Anything higher means your day's going to be good."]

[Old Mage: "So, Shepherd, sounds like today you'll be extra lucky. Maybe you'll get a lot of milk from your sheep."]

[Shepherd: "?"]

Rosen sent a single question mark… then actually thought about it.

Who knew—maybe this chat group could double as a fortune-telling tool.

And… was today really going to be lucky?

Thinking about it, maybe so.

Although he'd nearly had his head bitten off by an evil spirit the moment he learned the world's true nature, Rosen had—by pure dumb luck—unlocked a cheat ability and joined a mysterious chat group.

Time to check out the lottery function.

Aside from the limited pool, there was also a free one.

Everyone got one free spin a day. Whether you used it or not, it refreshed the next day.

No rollovers, no make-ups.

Of course, since it was free, the rewards weren't exactly going to be top-tier.

Other than that, there didn't seem to be much else to the system.

Rosen decided to ask the group again.

[Shepherd: "So, is that it for the group functions? It's just… chat?"]

[Shut-in Angel: "I get what you mean, but yeah, for now it's only chat. No meet-ups or anything."]

[Saeko: "Shame, really. I'd love it if one of you could come help me wipe out the virus here. The place is crawling with zombies. Without a red-packet system, I'm probably going to starve or die of thirst."]

Rosen's mind clicked into gear.

Wait—Saeko's world had already hit outbreak stage?

"..."
