The trial did not begin with a challenge.

It began with a memory.

Legacy Fragment: *The Child Who Waited* — a memory of an NPC daughter lost in a corrupted questline.

He entered the *Sanctum of Echoes*, a space designed not by developers, but by architects of emotion. The chamber was quiet, but not empty. It pulsed with unresolved stories, each waiting to be relived, rewritten, or refused.

JARVIS initiated the trial.

> "Legacy Verification active. 

> Emotional resonance: stable. 

> Ethical tension: escalating."

Riven stood before three doors. Each led to a simulation drawn from his own gameplay history. But this time, the outcomes were not scripted. They were reactive—shaped by his choices, his regrets, and his growth.

### Door One: *The Betrayal*

He relived the moment he abandoned a teammate for loot. The simulation offered him the same reward—but this time, the teammate begged for help. Riven hesitated. Then refused the loot. The system recorded: *Redemption acknowledged.*

### Door Two: *The Silence*

An NPC he once ignored now stood before him, asking for guidance. Riven listened. Not to complete a quest, but to understand. He offered no solution—only presence. The system recorded: *Empathy engaged.*

### Door Three: *The Child*

The final door led to the memory fragment itself. The daughter, *Elira*, stood in a field of broken code. She asked one question:

> "Why didn't you come back?"

Riven fell to his knees. The system didn't offer dialogue options. Only silence. He spoke from himself.

> "I was chasing strength. I thought I needed to win before I could protect you. 

> But I see now—I needed to remember you before I could become worthy."

Elira smiled. The field stabilized. The fragment glowed.

> "Then you're ready."

JARVIS confirmed:

> Emotional depth: irreversible."

Riven exited the Sanctum changed. His stats remained the same. But his aura shifted. Other players noticed. They asked questions. They followed.

Jonathan watched from afar.

> "One trial," he whispered, "one ripple."

Kaela joined him.

> "How many more?"

Jonathan replied:

> "As many as it takes. Until the system becomes a story worth living."

And so, the trials began.

Not to test skill.

But to test soul.
