Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9

He was a huge black wolf with a little brown mixed at his sides. He wasn't familiar at all. He gritted it's teeth at us and his members started getting closer to us, having formed a circle around us. They all looked scary and were ready to attack us at any moment but we didn't wanted to fight. It was pointless, we meant no harm but these crazy rogues or whatever they were won't listen to us.

At this point I gathered all what was left of my strength and came forward to meet the leader's gaze fully. The elder wolf tried to make me stay behind him all along, as a form of his protection but I was fed up. I needed to join him face whatever was bound to come, even though it was just the two of us against these twelve or so crazy wolves. We would fight together and die together. Maybe my life has finally come to an end.

Just as soon as their leader saw my wolf's face clearly, it halted it's movement towards us. The expression on it's wolf's face turned from that of anger towards fighting an enemy to death, to a fearful one. To our greatest surprise, the leader started to back away, making a noise to signal the rest of them to do likewise. The elder looked at me, confused. What the hell was going on?

I'm the weakest person from my just abandoned pack. I couldn't fight, I'm meant to be fought but I only had an inner bravery. This was crazy. It certainly wasn't my appearance or my wolf these rogues were afraid of, or was it? This was the same thing that happened during the unexpected attack on my abandoned pack. When their leader saw my wolf's face, it became afraid and so were its followers.

"Katerina, what's going on?"

The elder whispered the question to me.

"I have no idea but it's the same thing that happened during that unexpected attack."

The leader of the rogues kept retreating along with its members, without saying a word. This was strange. And finally, to our greatest surprise yet again, they all ran away, cowardly.

The elder turned to Ana, my wolf, and studied her face. He saw nothing scary that could chase rogues away. What was actually going on with my wolf?

"Seems like there's something or a mystery surrounding your wolf Katerina. The older elders will be in a better position to explain things to you. For now, let's quickly eat and pass the already late night. I'm sure as long as you remain in your wolf form, those rogues won't come to attack us overnight."

We entered the place of shelter and he gave me some food for my wolf form. I was close to death from hunger. I finished everything within seconds. I could feel I've lost a lot of weight.

"You know, you could join the warrior selection of the fallen moon pack, your abandoned pack. If your wolf can chase rogues or enemies away, it will make things easier for the pack in times of war."

"I don't think I'm special. I really don't understand what's going on with my wolf. It's strange. There's definitely something I don't know about myself. I feel like I have a special ability but I don't know how come about it. I've always felt useless and the last thing I would ever consider is to have anything to do with that pack ever again. I only agreed to follow you back because you said you have something to show me that can lead me to knowing the truth about my parents death. I need to know who framed me. I must have been framed by someone to make everyone see me as a murderer, even my only brother."

"It's okay Katerina. Calm down. But you have no where to go. Though your wolf scare rogues away, but we can't be certain if other wild beasts in this wilderness can be afraid of it. There's a lot of things we need to find out about you."

"It's fine." I nodded as we continued eating. I was still afraid though. I wasn't sure if we were safe passing the night here, after what he just said. Could it be that it was only rogues or wolves that were afraid of my wolf form? Was Ana's face really that scary anyway? A lot of things kept running through my mind as we got ready to pass the night. I had to remain in my wolf form, just in case. I was already missing my human form. Who knows what could be in store for us overnight? I prayed morning come earlier.
