Chapter 10 - what is a good death ? (chapter 10)

As the screen flashed with her, Kevin looked at Zaire.

"He looks.. troubled.."

Zaire's originally calm smirking expression had changed to a more stifled.. even pissed off expression. The teacher had noticed it too as..

:" student Zaire, is there something that this figure has in history that you dislike?"

"Nono.. it's nothing.." it seemed the teacher had been watching them specifically. Now that Kevin thought of it, Zaire looked strangely alike the woman in the photo.

"This wonderful lady, Mrs Layla tan, is an important person in history, and one of the reasons we won against the demonic beings. She is the first apostle of time revealed in the world, and though her strength was weak, her power to foresee was not.her husband had died in duty, though she was grief-stricken, she did not let it show, she instead focoused on ending the war. It is unknown what strengths time would have, but disregarding that. Mrs Layla tan sacrificed her life in the war, the demonic creatures had shown up to her house during the war, realising that she would not have time to escape, she used all her power the authority could handle and stalled for as long as she could., her and her 2 sons lost their lives due to her decision of not running away. But it was thanks to that decision, we took apart the strongest demons who were pre-occupied" Mr lee continued on.

Kevin noticed that Zaire's expression was anything but pleasant.

"Are you fine..? Zaire." Serena asked, handing a tissue to Zaire.

Zaire widened his eyes slightly before reverting back to his normal expression

"No everything is fine. I'm just.. not fond of stories of war."

He then broke into a smile that seemed natural to everyone but Kevin.

:" but.. should we not be thankful of this hero who sacrificed her life to save us?" Though she did not have the opportunity to kill those that had killed her loved one, she managed to stall and ended up contributing to the war ending, that's all that mattered."

:" yes it is. Maybe she considered it justice to end the war, so less lives were lost…."

Kevin looked at sairose who had replied to Zaire's words, she also seemed down, knowing what happened to her, he didn't dare chime in.

" in the end, she died doing what she believed was right, is that not a great death?"

Azreal asked,

Zaire shot Azreal a glare in which Azreal flinched away

:"… in the end, as someone who did a lot for society, as long as she felt fulfilled, is that not a good life lived?" Kevin chimed in, but his words seemed to upset Zaire further as Zaire had furrowed his brows slightly.

Zaire then took a deep breath before breaking into a small smile

:" in the end, this is just the past, everything will fade in time."

No one dared to say anything after that.

After that, Zaire went away on his own while the other 4 went to the canteen

:" did I say something wrong to him..? Or is he related to that lady.." Kevin thought to himself.

The other 3 were happily eating despite the tense discussion earlier, but knowing that Zaire could be a foe, Kevin could not let his guard down.

In the end, Kevin would see Zaire next lesson as they were in the same classes and the next lesson was… swordsmanship class
