Evelyn's POV
For a moment, I thought I was dead. The air that rushed back into my lungs burned like fire, and my throat screamed in pain. My body trembled violently as I gasped for breath, the taste of blood thick in my mouth. My mind spun, trying to make sense of what just happened.
The ropes, they had been cut.
Lisa lay beside me, coughing and wheezing, her face pale as chalk. Around us, chaos exploded. Wolves screamed. The crowd that had gathered to watch our deaths was now scattering like terrified sheep.
And then, a battle cry tore through the air.
"They're here! The Nightshade pack! The Nightshade pack is attacking!"
The words were followed by the sickening sound of blades meeting flesh, of bones snapping, of growls that made the ground tremble beneath us.
