Chapter 188: Konan's Little Mistake
"Wait a moment."
Hatake Yusuke's expression shifted. His usual lighthearted air faded, replaced by a sudden seriousness.
"What is it?" Konan asked, confused by his abrupt change in demeanor.
"…Come to think of it, Uzumaki Naruto is technically your fellow disciple, isn't he?" Yusuke frowned, pretending to ponder deeply.
"I suppose that's true," Konan replied, even more puzzled now.
"Which means," Yusuke continued, "since Naruto is my nephew, and he's your junior… that would make me your uncle, wouldn't it?"
A huge grin broke across his face.
"..."
Konan blinked.
"..."
Nagato's expression was equally deadpan.
The two of them stared at Yusuke, black lines practically etched across their foreheads. Just moments ago, they thought he was going to say something profound.
"Hahaha! Come on, Konan, say it—'Uncle Yusuke!'" he teased, swaying a skewer of dango in front of her like a bribe. "I even brought the limited edition Konoha sweet!"
"Scumbag. Paper Shuriken."
Without warning, dozens of razor-sharp origami shuriken surrounded Konan and launched at Yusuke—then abruptly stopped, suspended in midair.
Nagato let out a long sigh.
Honestly… this guy. The fact that he could make Konan angry was almost impressive in itself.
"Pointless. Tricks like that can't even scratch me," Yusuke said casually, as the shuriken slowly dropped to the ground without touching him.
"What exactly is that ability?" Konan narrowed her eyes.
Nagato also looked on with curiosity. No matter how many times they attacked him, not even his clothes had taken damage.
"Here," Yusuke said, extending a hand. "Let me show you."
Konan hesitated for a moment but then steeled herself.
I need to understand how his power works. If not, it could ruin everything we've planned.
Slowly, she reached out and took his hand.
Yusuke began to explain the core concept behind his ability—Cursed Technique: Limitless.
Even though neither Konan nor Nagato could fully grasp the mechanics, one thing was clear: it was impenetrable.
No matter how you tried to attack, nothing would connect. Knowing how it worked only deepened the despair.
Some truths were better left unknown.
"…Such a terrifying ability," Konan murmured without realizing.
"Oh? Not really," Yusuke shrugged. "Well, I suppose it makes sense. I am invincible."
Nagato remained quiet. But Konan, sensitive as ever, caught something behind Yusuke's words.
That power… was probably incredibly lonely.
His eyes still reflected a hunger—for something more. For challenge, perhaps. If not even a Rinnegan wielder like Nagato could match him… then who in the shinobi world could? Maybe the Sage of Six Paths… assuming he ever came back to life.
"The snowfall outside… that's your doing, right?" Nagato asked suddenly. "Can you revert the environment to normal?"
The cold was intense—so extreme that it affected chakra control. It was dangerous, not just annoying. It was clear now that this environment was a direct result of Yusuke's power.
Nagato didn't want to abandon this hideout. But if the climate was too hostile to manipulate chakra effectively, it would become a liability.
Plus, the blizzard was widespread—so vast that even his own sensory abilities, amplified by his Uzumaki lineage, couldn't trace the full extent.
"Huh? Oh… that?" Yusuke scratched his head.
Konan immediately felt a bad premonition.
And she was right.
"Yeah… about that. I can't really undo it," Yusuke admitted, flashing an awkward smile. "You might want to consider giving up on this location. The Rain Country's pretty big anyway, right?"
"Do you even know how much of the land you've frozen?!" Nagato's face paled, voice rising.
"Uhh… maybe… about a third of the country?" Yusuke replied, avoiding eye contact.
In truth, he knew it was closer to half.
Back then, he had gotten a bit carried away with his power.
Fortunately, not all areas were fully frozen. The outer zones had only been affected mildly and would return to normal soon. But even so, the damage was extensive.
"A third?!" Konan gasped.
Nagato's expression darkened. He didn't lash out—but his silence said enough. That kind of damage wasn't just excessive—it was absurd.
This was a country, not a village.
Even when he used Shinra Tensei, Nagato could only destroy about 70% of Konoha. But this? This was like flattening a hundred villages.
Is this guy even a shinobi…? Or have we been completely wrong about what it means to be one? Nagato wondered silently.
"…Konan. Let's relocate the base," he said calmly.
"Understood." Despite the outrageous situation, Konan composed herself quickly. She wasn't the type to dwell on emotion for long.
"Oh, and one more thing," Yusuke added, raising a finger. "The climate change? It's permanent. Sooo… don't get your hopes up."
"WHAT?!"
Even Nagato, usually composed, lost it for a second.
Who was the actual god here? Compared to Yusuke, Nagato felt like nothing more than a mortal. He even started regretting some of the things he'd said in the past.
"BASTARD!" Konan snapped, finally unable to contain herself.
After all, the Rain Country was their shared dream. Built with Yahiko. And in just one stroke, this man had erased a large part of it.
The endless rain that gave the land its name… had now turned to snow.
"I-I mean, chill. There's always a way to fix things, right?" Yusuke held up both hands in surrender. "Every problem has a solution!"
He was genuinely surprised. Konan cursed? That didn't match the cold, composed woman he thought he knew.
Even Nagato was shocked by her outburst—but he also felt… a little relieved.
Konan, realizing both men were staring at her, turned red with embarrassment. She hadn't meant to lose control.
Thankfully, the lighting in the room was dim enough to hide most of the blush.
Nagato didn't say anything—just gave her a glance.
But Yusuke… that clueless airhead… stared at her in total confusion.
That's not like her. Could she be under a genjutsu?
But… what kind of genjutsu could even affect her in front of me?
(Author's Note:
Yusuke, go learn Tsukuyomi Sakura.
Yusuke: "I deeply apologize."
Hashirama: "That genjutsu's insane. For a moment, I thought she surpassed Tsunade."
Madara: "I, Uchiha Madara, acknowledge the pinnacle of illusionary might.")
"So… what's your solution, exactly?" Nagato asked at last.
"Oh, easy," Yusuke grinned. "You'll just have to start forced labor."
The climate-altering power of a Logia-type Devil Fruit had always been vast. But Yusuke's Ice Element was in a league of its own. Permanent, irreversible, and—unlike others—capable of plunging an entire nation below freezing without melting naturally.
Not only was the temperature far below freezing, but it also came with… additional effects.
