Chapter 14 - Meals and Murmurs (14)

Everyone went after the chicken.

A group of Sixteen people vs. one chicken.

And somehow… The chicken was winning.

It was pathetic.

Nine were already injured.

Scrapes, cuts, blood streaked across arms and faces.

Chaos erupts at the place.

Shouts, stomps, the 10 foot chicken thrashing, people falling over each other.

It was seconds from turning bloody—

But before anyone got seriously injured or killed, Chief Lyra stepped in.

"Focus on hunting," she said.

Ahrie's Ent… eyes locked on the screen, not blinking.

His hand slid across the room, searching blindly for his snacks.

"...Nooo freaaaking waaay… I'm out of food already?" he muttered.

He pushed himself up and rushed off, Heavy footsteps, more worried about snacks than Ahrie's safety.

Ahrie and his group of thirteen started the hunt.

He and Daiki charged straight into one of the ten-foot chickens, feet pounding against the dirt.

But the rest of the team stayed back.

Some froze, fear locking their legs.

Others gripped their weapons but didn't move…

No skills, no way to help.

Solid black feathers covered its body, each one shining like steel.

Sharp claws that leave long freaking marks behind.

Its thick beak flashes with every turn.

The eyes…pointed—watched like a predator sizing up its prey.

And for all its size, the thing moved fast.

Too agile in a way that didn't make sense.

Just before Ahrie and Daiki fixed their momentum to attack—

The chicken jumped first.

It came down hard, claws out, ready to tear them apart.

They both rolled away, barely escaping the pounce.

The chicken landed, claws ripping into the ground.

It lifted its head, stared at the two of them—

Then let out a soft Bok.

Ahrie and Daiki sprinted in the opposite direction.

Side by side, bumping shoulders, stumbling into each other as that giant bird gave chase.

"Your greatsword can block it—go block it!" Ahrie yelled.

"You're fucking agile, you can dodge it easy!" Daiki shot back.

"What chu mean dodge it? You see those claws? I don't wanna die this early!" Ahrie snapped.

"You think my greatsword can block that? Are you nuts? I still have my family at home!" Daiki barked.

"Ohhh your family, huh? The ones that told you not to come here?" Ahrie cupped his hands around his mouth, mocking him.

Daiki's face went blank… the look of a man realizing he was fucked either way once he went back home.

Their voices tangled, mumbling back and forth, even as the monster tore the ground chasing them.

Then they decided on it… rock, paper, scissors.

Ahrie lost.

Daiki smirked.

"Dang it!" Ahrie shouted.

He spun on his heels, U-turned, and faced the chicken head-on.

"Hey, fucker! You got a son? A daughter? How bout' a nephew> We'll eat those instead… you're a pain in the ass to kill!" he yelled.

The chicken lunged.

Ahrie barely slipped past each strike, claws tearing the ground inches from him.

He stabbed back with his rapier, only leaving shallow scratches on it.

"HEY!" Ahrie shouted at his teammates.

"Use your damn skill to distract it… I'm gonna poke its eyes!"

The girl threw her hand up.

[Look Over There!]

Ahrie's head snapped left. He became the target…

"FREAKING SKILL!" he yelled.

Somewhere in the back, a small voice stammered, "s-sorry…"

Ahrie dodged and blocked, head still stuck looking left.

"DAIKIII!" he roared.

He twisted,

Searching…

there—Daiki, smiling, standing with another group, already celebrating. Their chicken was down.

The skill wore off. Ahrie's head snapped back to normal.

"This… Bastard…" his teeth clenched. Rage boiling.

He sprinted straight at them, shouting as he closed the gap.

Daiki and the group turned at the noise and froze.

Because right behind Ahrie, the monster chicken was still chasing.

Everyone panicked. Feet scrambled, voices cracked, the whole group scattered.

Ahrie kept on, locked on Daiki, refusing to stop.

After a few minutes, the hunt was over.

Everyone crowded around fires, frying their meal.

Ahrie and Daiki sat off to the side.

"I wonder where Naoya is…" Daiki asked.

"If he's here, he probably ate the whole thing already"

Both of them giggled.

Ahrie's Ent walked back, hands full of food.

Then he froze.

Crying…

"P-please… be safe… you can do it… you can do it…"

He followed the sound, step by step.

A girl Ent.

Sitting. Crying.

On her screen—

A man with a sword, bleeding out, surrounded by human-like monsters.

Wait… sprouts on their heads?

The scene was horrific.

Dead humans torn apart, monsters eating without pause.

The rest panicked, scattered.

But the man stood there. Eyes already dead, body still swinging, refusing to fall.

Ent #314159 stopped. Something heavy hit inside him.

He stepped into the girl's room.

Placed his favorite food in her hands.

Up close, he caught it—

The man whispered, soft, broken.

"...riee.."

Ent #314159 turned away, walked back to his place in silence.

The farmer who left the farm earlier slipped into a back alley of the village.

He entered a house, went straight down into a hidden chamber below.

But he wasn't alone…

A shadow followed him.

Seven human bodies lay inside.

Freshly killed. Stored like meat.

The farmer pushed deeper, opened a sealed room, and pulled out a box.

Inside—a vial. Black substance, thick and liquid-like.

He smirked.

"That looks interesting… where did you get that?"

The voice cut through the chamber, chilling him to the bone.

The farmer spun, striking first.

But the mysterious figure blocked it with ease.

"Y-you… when are you gonna stop listening to the Chief…" the farmer spat.

"The Chief's orders are absolute," the figure said.

He took the vial from the farmer's hand, grip tightening around his arm.

"Where did you get this?"

"Arg—! I-I got it from.. Someone in a robe, came here a few days ago—!"

The grip only grew harsher. Bones cracked.

"Then what about those bodies outside?"

"ARGHHH! W-we found them unconscious at the tower! We just grabbed them—!"

The figure's claws slid out, one clean motion.

The farmer's head hit the floor.

The figure stepped out of the room.

He stopped before the bodies, bowed his head.

"...Forgive me."

Then he vanished into thin air.

Meanwhile, Ahrie and Daiki munched down the whole chicken.

Their teammates only got a tiny piece each.

Then—flap, flap.

A crow swooped in, landed right on top of the roasted chicken.

Something tied to its foot. A small scroll.

The scroll floated up, unraveled on its own.

Daiki squinted and read.

"Author's Note: Yooo! Thanks for reading this chaotic world of mine… I'm currently sick—like, dying-on-the-floor-sick… but guess what? STILL UPLOADING, BABY! HURAAA!… If this chapter feels rushed, it's because it is. You think new chapters write themselves? Faknooo!... anyway, if you're having fun, drop a comment… Please. It's too damn silent out there. So silent I can hear the crow in the background going 'KAAAWWW' every five damn seconds. It's awkward, man. Say hi. Suggest a skill. Roast a character. Tell me what you had for breakfast. I don't care—Just type something. Alright, I'm out. PEACE!"

Daiki sat cross-legged, hand on chin, deep in fake thought.

"...Da fuck's this bullshit?"

Ahrie shouted "Whooy, whooy! That crow's eating our food! Shooo!"

Both grabbed rocks and chucked them.

"Shooo! Shoooooo!"

The crow took off, flapping hard. Right before vanishing into the sky, it flicked its claws like a middle finger.

Daiki froze, then flipped his own finger back. "Since when do crows know how to do that?"

Ahrie shrugged. "We're in a different world, so…"

"...Ahh, yeah. Figures." Daiki sighed.
