Chapter 7 - An Unexpected Collision

Ethan had the night shift today, so he was free during the day. In his free time, Ethan liked to write; he had been fond of writing since childhood. Many books came to the orphanage as donations. The other children weren't so keen on reading, but he was. Whenever new books arrived at the orphanage, he would be the first to run and grab them. As he kept reading, his interest in writing gradually grew.

He loved to write, but writing wouldn't earn him money, which was why he became a doctor.

Whenever Ethan wanted to write, he would go to a small roadside café in the Wasteland. It was an open-air café, right on the road. Ethan had been going there since his school days. The café owner's son, Ryan, had also become Ethan's friend. He was also a doctor, and they both worked at the same hospital. Being friends, Ethan got a good discount at the café.

Ethan was sitting in his favorite chair. A coffee mug was in one hand, a pen in the other. Ethan's hands moved continuously across the paper. He had been working on a novel for the past two months and was still writing it.

Ethan was deeply engrossed in his writing when he felt something wet on his foot. Ethan put his coffee mug aside and bent down under the table. A smile instantly appeared on his face. A small puppy was licking his foot.

Ethan gently picked it up and placed it on the table. "Hmm, would you like something to eat, puppy?" The puppy didn't answer, but it wagged its tail slightly. Seeing this, Ethan understood it wanted food. Ethan carefully put it down from the table; he was afraid it might fall.

Leaving it on the ground, Ethan went to get it something to eat. The puppy had a very mischievous nature; it couldn't stay still, so it started running around.

Ethan ordered the puppy's favorite cake. After a minute or two, the cake was ready. As Ethan turned with the cake, his mouth dropped open.

The puppy was running rapidly across the road. A car was approaching at high speed from the opposite direction. Ethan threw the cake plate aside and rushed towards the puppy. Ethan quickly scooped the puppy into his arms. He was about to run away with the puppy when the car was already right upon them. Ethan squeezed his eyes shut in fear.

But a few moments later, Ethan realized he was unharmed. He slowly opened his eyes. There was only an inch or two between the car and him. Ethan's heart pounded, his breathing still ragged. He had faced death up close!

Ethan held the puppy tightly, checking it to make sure it hadn't gotten hurt.

Meanwhile, Daniel, sitting in the car, also took a deep breath and leaned his head back on the seat. If he hadn't slammed the brakes in time, Ethan and the little puppy wouldn't be alive today.

Arthur, sitting beside him, was jolted by the sudden stop. "Daniel, what happened? Why did you slam the brakes like that?"

"Arthur, a man suddenly ran into the road. If I hadn't braked, he would have died!" Daniel said, exhaling slowly.

Arthur said angrily, "Such fools should just die if they're going to jump onto the road without reason!"

"Arthur, he didn't jump for no reason. A small puppy was running on the road, and he came out to save it!" Daniel said, looking towards Ethan standing in front of the car.

Hearing this, Arthur made a face. "Then he's even more of a fool! He risked his life for a tiny puppy. Where do such people come from?!"

Daniel sighed, shaking his head. There was no point in saying anything to Arthur.

Meanwhile, Ethan was lovingly stroking the puppy's head. The puppy was very scared.

Ethan, still holding the puppy in his arms, was standing in front of the car, which prevented Daniel from starting it.

Seeing him not start the car, Arthur said loudly, "Daniel, why aren't you starting it? I'm getting late!"

Daniel rubbed his forehead. "Oh, man, how can I start it? That guy needs to move from in front of the car first! He's not budging. I can't just run him over."

"Run him over!" Arthur said in a cold voice. Hearing this, Daniel quickly turned to him. "What?!"

"I said, run him over!" Arthur said in a serious tone.

Daniel raised an eyebrow. "You're joking, right?"

"Do I look like I'm joking?" Arthur said, raising an eyebrow.

Daniel looked at him carefully, then shook his head.

Arthur said in a chilling voice, "If that boy doesn't move from there in the next minute, I will run him over. And I'm not kidding, I'm dead serious!" Hearing Arthur's voice, Daniel understood that Arthur was truly angry.

Daniel nodded and quickly got out of the car. He was afraid Arthur might hurt them.

Daniel walked quickly towards Ethan. "Excuse me, could you please move with your puppy? We're getting late!"

Ethan glared at him angrily. "No, I won't move! Don't you know how to drive? Who drives at such a high speed? This is a road, not a racetrack where you were speeding. It was only my and the puppy's good fortune that we survived, otherwise, you spared no effort in sending us to the grave!" Ethan unleashed all his anger on Daniel. Daniel silently listened to all his taunts.

Daniel understood Ethan's anger well. He had faced death so closely; anger was only natural! When Ethan finally fell silent, Daniel calmly said, "I apologize if you were troubled because of us. Our intention was absolutely not to harm you."

"That much is clear! I know everything; there's no need to lie! Rich people like you treat us humans like insects, easy to crush!"

Meanwhile, Arthur had been waiting for Daniel for a long time. When Daniel didn't come, Arthur also got out of the car.

Daniel, trying to reason with him, repeated, "Look, you're misunderstanding!"

"He's understanding perfectly!" Arthur's cold voice came from behind him. Ethan and Daniel looked at him simultaneously. Daniel began to scratch his neck, knowing that a spectacle was now inevitable. Daniel went to Arthur. "Arthur, I'm handling it. You didn't need to come out."

Arthur glared at him, then said with a frown, "I can see how well you're handling it! This chatterbox won't even let you get a word in!"

Hearing the word "chatterbox" for himself, Ethan's eyes widened.

Arthur pushed Daniel aside and stood in front of Ethan. "How much money do you want?"

Hearing this, Ethan's eyes narrowed. "What did you say?"

"Are you blind and deaf? How much money do you want to end this drama?"

"Excuse me, I haven't created any drama! You and your friend here created the drama! My life was almost taken! What if I had died?"

"Nothing would have happened if you died. The world wouldn't be affected. Earth would still be doing its job just as it was before. Nothing would change." Ethan glared at him angrily.

"And anyway, you're not dead, are you? You're alive, so why are you making a drama?!"

"So, according to you, I should have made a drama after I died? You idiot! How could I make a drama after dying?!"

"Did you leave your brain at home? Or do you not have one at all?"

Hearing this, Arthur's eyes instantly turned cold. In a fit of rage, he grabbed Ethan by the throat. Seeing this, Daniel's eyes widened. He quickly went to Arthur and pulled his hand away from Ethan's throat. Arthur had gripped his throat very tightly; Daniel had great difficulty getting his hand off Ethan's neck.

As soon as his throat was free, Ethan began coughing violently. Tears streamed from his eyes! Arthur was watching him with cold eyes. If he could have, he would have killed him right then and there. It was only Daniel's intervention that saved him; otherwise, he would have taken his life by now!

Daniel forcibly held Arthur and started leading him away. Arthur, as he left, glared at Ethan with burning eyes. Ethan coughed violently for nearly two minutes before returning to normal. Ethan was looking at Arthur with hateful eyes.

Daniel tried to get Arthur into the car.

Meanwhile, Ethan's anger had reached its peak. Ethan rarely got angry, but when he did, it was dangerous. Ethan picked up a chair from the café and forcefully hit Arthur's car with it, shattering the glass window in one go. Seeing this, Daniel's mouth hung open! Ethan threw the chair aside.

Daniel and Arthur were standing outside the car; if they had been inside, they would have been crushed. Ethan was glaring at Arthur in fury.

Arthur's face, meanwhile, had turned completely cold; his eyes were bloodshot, as if filled with blood. Daniel was extremely panicked. Arthur's anger was out of control now; he couldn't manage him anymore. There was only one person who could reason with him: Leonardo Alistair, the leader of the Blue Moon syndicate. Arthur regarded him like a father. Only he could make him understand now! Daniel discreetly sent him a message.

Arthur was advancing angrily towards Ethan. He had taken a step or two forward when his phone rang, stopping him in his tracks. Arthur glanced at Ethan, then immediately answered his phone.

"Hello, Uncle," Arthur said in a calm voice. No matter how angry he was, he never spoke to Leonardo with anger.

A deep voice came from the other end. "Meet me in ten minutes!"

Without any objection, Arthur agreed. "Okay, Uncle, I'm coming!"

Arthur looked at Ethan, then took a step back.

Seeing Arthur leave like this, a proud smile appeared on Ethan's face. He thought Arthur was leaving because he was scared of him.

Arthur was about to get into the car when Ethan shouted from behind, "What happened, Mr. Arrogant? You're going back so quietly? A while ago, you lunged at me like a hungry lion at a piece of meat, and now you're running away like a scared deer? Why, did all your courage vanish?" Ethan said with a teasing smile.

Hearing this, Arthur's hands clenched on the car door in anger. His eyes were cold. It was only because Leonardo had called him urgently, otherwise, he would have made Ethan remember his ancestors right then and there!

Meanwhile, hearing Ethan's words, Daniel slapped his forehead. *Why is this boy so stubborn? Arthur was leaving perfectly fine. Why is he provoking him and unnecessarily inviting trouble? He's going to get into deep trouble!* Daniel shook his head regretfully.

Now, he couldn't do anything either.
