Chapter 19 - Bittersweet

LIAM'S POV

"Fuck!! How could you let them through! How did you let those sick fucks through!!" I yelled, before banging at the wall, which produced a crack immediately.

I walked through the corridors of the Pack house, noting how the whole Pack house had gone into a frenzy with the guards who were running in and out of the Pack house.

I yelled out my orders at them, demanding to know where she was. I would be damned if I didn't find out where she was hiding, and if I didn't bring her back.

That bitch was mine and nobody else, I couldn't imagine what would happen if I lost her. I was trying so hard to force myself not to think about it. Despite the stark reality I was being faced with, I tried so hard to remain optimistic and not crush under the weight of my thoughts.

"Find her! And bring her to me immediately!" I roared at the guards, feeling my anger simmer just beneath the surface. The guards continued to scatter, confused as they scrambled to obey my commands. The whole Pack had been informed that their Luna was missing, and they wouldn't have reacted any other way, even though I wasn't yelling at them this way.

I was on my way to the cell to track her scent when I heard someone running towards me from behind. I turned to see a hooded guard. He stopped the moment he reached me, breathing heavily. Then he took off the hood to reveal his face.

"Your Grace." He bowed, shortly. He was in great haste.

"What do you have for me, young man?!" I questioned, ignoring his greetings. They didn't mean anything in dire situations like this.

"Alpha, I have good news about our Luna." He said, relieving my worries for a second.

"Go on, then, tell me what you have!" I replied almost immediately with a low growl scattering across my chest.

"We've managed to track down footsteps around the kingdom fence. In no time, I'd be able to get her location," he revealed with a relieved tone.

I took a step towards him with a gloomy expression that startled him.

"You Grace?" He called but I yanked him towards me by the collar.

"Get more guards and find her. And also get Colton here right now," I ordered and he winced.

"But your Grace, we haven't seen him ever since he came to pay her a visit today," he quickly replied.

Fuck! I knew it all along but was just too adamant to believe. I knew he had a hand in all of this, including the last escape. I had ignored the last attempt because I knew how to get her back and I knew she would always be scared of me. She was never bold enough to escape and I was certain he had been the one encouraging her.

His feelings for her were still there and I had been benevolent all this while, trying to ignore the fact that he was a potential enemy because deep down, I knew Hazel would never get out of my grip. However, he really crossed the line this time.

I finally let go of his collar, pushing him in the process and he quickly turned to leave.

"Hey, come back here!" I growled. My mind was already distorted from the rage.

"Everyone should keep watch. The guards should wait until he comes back to the Pack. Make sure he doesn't slip in unnoticed. Once he is back, come back to me and let me know about it. And make sure you waste no time before doing so." I finished before waving him off with a flicker of my finger. He bowed and ran out of the hallway like he was being chased, but it wasn't his fault though, nobody wanted to mess with me.

As the guard scurried away, I fought so hard to control the anger brimming inside me, so I quickly made it back to my room to avoid transferring my anger on anybody but reserving them for that bastard that called himself my brother. My hands were trembling, and I felt like using them on somebody.

How dare Colton turn against me? Our relationship has always been tense since our childhood, and he has always been the one consistently disapproving of the things I did, my behavior and my actions.

We got into fights, but it didn't last long. My father had thought we would outgrow it once we were adults, but things had always been very tense between the both of us. For him to betray me in such a manner and take my Luna away from me was just unbelievable. Maybe tonight would be the day I taught him a bitter lesson, one that he had always needed since we were kids. Perhaps he had grown, and that was what prompted him to do something as unspeakable as this. Tonight, I would cut those wings, and clarify it that he was nothing before me.

With a roar of rage, I swept my arm across my desk and sent the papers and vases flying in all directions. I paced back and forth across the room like a beast in a cage, thinking about vengeance, the best ways to teach my brother a lesson.

Of course, I couldn't maim him for life or have him executed, but I would have done that in a heartbeat if he were someone else. I just had to wait until he was and then, I would teach him how things were done.

I was still in my chamber, brooding over the betrayal of my brother, when I heard a knock onthe door. Furthermore, I got up instantly and answered the door. It was the guard again, and it seemed he had another good news.

"Alpha," he spoke up with a tentative voice as he delivered the news. "He has been sighted crossing back into the Pack boundary. What shall we do next, your Grace?" He asked, before quickly cowering as soon our eyes met. I nodded, clenching my jaws and my fists again.

"Notify the trackers." I ordered coldly and authoritatively. "They must track his scent right away and find where he took Hazel, without raising any suspicion, so she or whoever is protecting her doesn't stand a chance to think and act before we attack." The guard nodded.

"Of course, your Grace. Is there anything else you want me to do, I am at your service.

I stroked my jaw once again, before recalling the most important thing, teaching that boy a lesson!"Inform Colton that he is needed at the palace," I added with a tinged menace in my voice. "Immediately!" The guard bowed and quickly hurried off into the distance to carry out what I had ordered him to.

It irked me further that I had been too occupied and confident that she wouldn't be able to slip past me. And now it is difficult for me to track her without the mate bond. The urge to hit something grew as I waited for him.

"Everyone else, leave." I ordered, and the guards began to file out immediately. He stood there beneath my throne, staring up at me with utter disgust. It wasn't surprising. The tension returned, and I couldn't almost swear it was tangible. There were traces of her aura in his body, which made my wolf growl angrily.

"Colton," I started out slowly to break the silence since he would rather not say anything. I bet his guilt was eating him up right now. "You have some explaining to do."

He squared his shoulders and continued to stare at me. "I have nothing to explain to you." He retorted.

I nodded, still trying everything to keep my anger inside. I would rather not show it. "Have you always wanted her, Colton? You've always wanted to fuck her, haven't you?" I asked, and just before he could react, I got up and lunged towards him immediately, grabbing him by the throat and squeezing his throat.

He pushed me off, growling in anger. "I will not watch you do what you're doing to her." He growled at me, huffing loudly and on the verge of shifting.

I welcomed the challenge.

"You're still a little boy, Colton. You clearly don't understand what it means to be in my position, and you are not entitled to question my decisions!"

I shifted into my wolf in one swift jump before attacking him. He tried to shift, but it was already too late. I wedged his hand into my canines and bit on a great deal of flesh before trying to rip it off. He yelled in pain, but I couldn't have cared less.
