Chapter 13: Kakashi: You've Piqued My Interest

Hoshikawa watched Kurenai Yūhi practice genjutsu, but his attention was focused on the system in front of him.

With three genjutsu entries collected, he could now synthesize a new entry.

[D-rank Talent Entry: Genjutsu Genin.]

[Trigger Condition: Possess three genjutsu entries.]

[Effect: All genjutsu power increased by 30%.]

[Note: Learning more genjutsu can lead to promotion to C-rank entry 'Genjutsu Chūnin'.]

According to the ninja world's standards, one could become a Genin by learning the Three Basic Jutsu.

Hoshikawa had now learned three genjutsu, so calling him a Genjutsu Genin was indeed fitting.

And a 30% increase in genjutsu power was enough to give him a significant advantage in battle.

Perhaps he could even contend with ordinary Sharingan users.

The only thing that surprised Hoshikawa was that this entry seemed rather perfunctory, or perhaps its limits were easily seen, akin to the path Yūhi Shinku had taken.

But on second thought, it was quite reasonable.

In the ninja world, no matter how strong genjutsu was, could it surpass the Mangekyō Sharingan?

The path of genjutsu could only serve as a transition.

Ninjutsu and taijutsu were more worth investing in, at least their upper limits were higher.

Unless the system gave him a pair of Sharingan.

After recovering his stamina, Hoshikawa greeted them and went to the small woods outside the house.

His current chakra reserves were insufficient to support him in learning more advanced ninjutsu; he would wait until his fundamentals caught up.

Hoshikawa stopped in front of a wooden target and casually took out a pre-prepared senbon.

A senbon, in essence, was a slender, needle-like ninja tool.

This was the third commonly used ninja tool, besides kunai and shuriken.

Hoshikawa casually threw it, and it perfectly hit the bullseye.

Senbon, like shuriken, were thrown projectiles, so the techniques were not too different.

The beautiful Sunday quickly passed.

Hoshikawa looked at the rapidly increasing progress bar of the 'Seven Ninja Tools' entry, a satisfied smile on his face.

It was a new week.

Early in the morning, Class 1-A was quite lively.

Since it wasn't time for class yet, everyone was chatting in pairs.

Kurenai Yūhi rested her chin on her hands, feeling annoyed.

Sarutobi Asuma was incessantly talking beside her about his weekend experiences.

She completely didn't want to listen.

Kurenai Yūhi subconsciously looked at Hoshikawa.

He was currently reading a book with a serious expression, so much so that she didn't want to disturb him.

In her memory, from the day Hoshikawa enrolled, he had been this diligent.

She, for one, was completely incapable of it.

Whenever she read for more than half an hour, her attention would start to wander; any slight disturbance could provoke a reaction from her.

Kurenai Yūhi couldn't help but drift off.

This little brother of hers was quite handsome.

Although she had given up on the idea of defeating him, her dream of being the "big sister" still remained.

After all, without dreams, one would become a salted fish.

Sarutobi Asuma, while talking, suddenly noticed something amiss.

He followed Kurenai Yūhi's gaze and immediately couldn't hold back.

It's him! It's him! It's him again!

That evil Hoshikawa brat!

Sarutobi Asuma was so angry he puffed out his cheeks and glared.

No, I can't let Hoshikawa steal my thunder.

"Kurenai."

Sarutobi Asuma slightly raised his chin, saying proudly, "I learned a Wind Release ninjutsu yesterday."

In the Ninja Academy, learning a ninjutsu beyond the Three Basic Jutsu was undoubtedly considered genius.

Especially when they had only just enrolled two months ago.

In the entire class, only Kakashi Hatake was not beneath him.

He could even imagine Kurenai Yūhi's reaction, his lips curling into a grin, almost cackling.

"What's so special about that?"

Kurenai Yūhi casually retorted.

Sarutobi Asuma's smile froze.

Isn't this impressive?

You won't even praise me?

"Hoshikawa learned three genjutsu yesterday!"

Kurenai Yūhi noticed his expression and said with a proud tone.

As if she were the one who had learned three genjutsu.

"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"

Sarutobi Asuma leaned back dramatically.

Adaptation isn't random fabrication, and dramatization isn't nonsense.

Who can learn three genjutsu in one day?

"You don't believe me?"

Kurenai Yūhi snorted softly and asked.

"No, I don't."

Sarutobi Asuma said as a matter of course.

Liars have to swallow three thousand silver needles.

As the Hokage's son, and with a special jonin as his tutor, his knowledge was arguably superior to his peers.

Kurenai Yūhi must have been fooled by that evil Hoshikawa brat and kept in the dark.

He had never heard of anyone learning three genjutsu in one day.

"Just you wait."

Kurenai Yūhi showed a look of three parts mockery, three parts triumph, and four parts nonchalance.

She stood up and walked over to Hoshikawa.

But when it came down to it, she hesitated slightly.

Would it cause him trouble?

"What's wrong?"

Hoshikawa looked up at her and said.

Kurenai Yūhi pursed her lips and explained the situation.

"It's a small matter."

Hoshikawa had been so engrossed in training these past few days that he had almost forgotten about Sarutobi Asuma.

He suddenly remembered their three-month pact.

When should he defeat Sarutobi Asuma?

No need for three months, today!

He had just acquired the 'Tool Throwing' and 'Genjutsu Genin' entries and was itching to try them out.

Even if Kurenai Yūhi hadn't said anything, he would have found a way to move it up.

"Asuma."

Hoshikawa sat in Kurenai Yūhi's seat.

"What is it?"

Sarutobi Asuma's face hardened, his gaze at Hoshikawa seemed to spark.

Mizuki, nearby, instinctively perked up his ears, a gossipy expression on his face.

"I want to move our duel up."

Hoshikawa said directly, "How about today?"

"Move it up?"

Sarutobi Asuma was stunned, but quickly became furious.

This was clearly looking down on him!

It's only been a week, and he thinks he has a chance to win?

Simply wishful thinking!

"Wait for me after school!"

Sarutobi Asuma said, crossing his arms, "I hope you don't cry when you lose!"

Hoshikawa nodded slightly.

He stood up, exchanged glances with Kurenai Yūhi, and returned to his seat.

Dueling Sarutobi Asuma was just a side matter.

His immediate priority was to get first place in the theoretical exam to acquire the entry.

Fortunately, being reborn twice, his adult memories were far superior to a child's, so learning wasn't that difficult.

"Damn it!"

Sarutobi Asuma was displeased to see him so calm.

At least show me some respect!

Am I not worthy of being your opponent?

Sarutobi Asuma gritted his teeth. After school, he would definitely defeat Hoshikawa soundly.

By then, he should be able to win back Kurenai Yūhi, right?

"What's wrong, Kakashi?"

Rin Nohara noticed Kakashi Hatake's gaze. She looked and saw it was the new student, Hoshikawa.

"They're going to duel after school."

Kakashi Hatake said calmly.

Man, you've successfully piqued my interest.

Hoshikawa, having just enrolled a week ago, dared to challenge Sarutobi Asuma, which was quite unexpected.

Moreover, Sarutobi Asuma was not weak; even he would have to put in considerable effort to defeat him.

Kakashi Hatake sensed the presence of a kindred spirit.

"How do you know they're going to duel?"

Obito Uchiha asked, puzzled.

"I heard them."

Kakashi Hatake glanced at him and said, "As a ninja, isn't it normal for our senses to be sharp?"

"Bastard!"

Obito Uchiha, provoked, immediately broke down and said, "Let's go outside and have a one-on-one!"

"No interest."

Kakashi Hatake said indifferently.

"Obito."

Rin Nohara, seeing this, quickly intervened, "Stop fighting, class is about to start."

"For Rin's sake, I'll let you off today!"

Obito Uchiha snorted softly.
