Chapter 59 - Half a heart

Seirion placed Erian's lifeless body upon the altar.

Erian's head tilted slightly to one side, his silvery hair stuck to his forehead with dried sweat. His parted lips seemed as though they wanted to speak, yet no sound would ever leave them again.

Seirion stood there for several seconds, trembling. The sword had vanished from his hand, dissolved along with the fury that had once sustained him. He stared at the body before him. He had carried Erian in his arms, sealed the temple, and shouted his name over and over. But nothing had changed. Erian's chest remained still.

"Korveth…" Seirion whispered. Then he lifted his gaze toward the ceiling of the temple. "Korveth, answer me."

The echo of his voice struck the stone walls and returned distorted. No presence replied. No spark of power, no tremor in the air. Only silence.

"Korveth!" Seirion shouted. "I need your help!"

Nothing.

The God of War did not come.

He couldn't understand why Korveth did not answer.
