Chapter 140 - The Past Cannot Be Changed? Impossible to Change!

Especially for Quicksilver, watching this "Flash" after being belittled by Lin Feng felt… underwhelming.

Sure, he was fast—but in essence, he didn't seem fundamentally different from Quicksilver himself. And he certainly wasn't at the level Lin Feng had described: saving people amid a nuclear explosion.

"Barry!"

"Mom!"

Mother and son were torn apart by red and yellow lightning, helplessly staring at each other.

At that moment, Barry Allen's father appeared, looking at his wife. "Nora, hold on."

Just as Barry tried to save his mother, the future Flash appeared from the timeline and punched Reverse-Flash away. He looked at his past self hiding behind the door and gestured for him not to act.

He knew all too well the catastrophic consequences of disturbing this time point.

Barry, watching this, felt utterly helpless. He saw his future self rescue his father and the young version of himself, leaving only his mother alone to face Reverse-Flash.

"No, Barry…" Nora cried, seeing her husband vanish.

She could only watch as Reverse-Flash approached with a knife.

Barry couldn't bear to see his mother killed. Helplessly, he closed the door, listening to everything unfold. Only when the outcome was certain did he finally open it.

He saw his father unconscious, and his mother stabbed by Reverse-Flash, life slipping away.

Barry knelt before her, trying to comfort her. "It's okay… it's okay."

"My husband and son…?" Nora's thoughts still lingered on them. She couldn't understand why events had suddenly turned out this way.

"They're safe," Barry whispered through tears. "I promise. They're both safe."

"Who… are you?" Nora asked helplessly.

"I… I am the Flash," Barry forced himself to remain calm.

Nora didn't understand. "I… don't understand."

Barry removed his mask, revealing himself.

"You look so much like my father," she whispered weakly.

Hearing that he resembled his grandfather, Barry chuckled faintly through his grief. "You may not understand, but it's really me. Mom… I'm Barry."

"Barry?" Nora gasped.

"Yes… your Barry."

"My dear son," Nora murmured, stroking his face. She wanted to see him grow up, to stay with him, but all she could say was that one sentence.

Barry's tears blurred his vision. "I came back to tell you that we're safe, your husband and I… and we both love you. Mom… I love you."

"I love you too… my dear son." Her voice grew faint, the last traces of her attachment fading. "Goodbye… goodbye, Barry."

And with that, Nora passed away.

"Mom!"

Barry wept, helplessly resting against her shoulder, unable to change anything.

The video ended in darkness.

The room was silent. The result was exactly as expected—but all the more painful for it.

They had seen the death of his mother firsthand. They had the chance to intervene—but couldn't.

Such sorrow…

"So… that red lightning, that was the Flash?" Hawkeye asked. "It seems like he saw the Flash inside the room and signaled him not to act… does that mean he knew the other Flash existed?"

"Probably," Fury replied. "But it wasn't just two Flashes. Inside and outside, the room was full of them. It's… a hellish joke."

"Is the past truly unchangeable? Even the Flash with time-travel powers can't do it?" Hill asked.

Everyone fell silent. Who among them didn't have regrets? If they could, would they refrain from changing the timeline?

It was difficult—at least Tony Stark couldn't do it. If he could go back, he'd do whatever it took to save his parents, regardless of timelines or futures. He just wanted them to live full lives.

The older one grew, the more one understood their father's thinking.

"But maybe it's good this way," Bruce Banner said. "If everyone could freely traverse time and change the future, it would be chaos. The Flash can travel through time, and there's always someone faster than him each season. I couldn't handle my life constantly being altered. Good or bad… Hulk or no Hulk… this is my life. I won't deny it, nor change it."

[Meanwhile, Quicksilver saving the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters—this is how a speedster should be! Not getting mowed down by machine guns, nor beaten by Superman. This is how a speedster sees themselves! (Insert playful remark)]

"Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters? A school for young geniuses?" Tony Stark raised an eyebrow. He understood those words—he'd qualified as a prodigy once—but something felt off. Many schools had classes for prodigies, but an entire school? How do you guarantee a stable intake every year?

It seemed… impossible.

The next video appeared.

A bee flapped its wings, extremely slowly, as if time itself had been stretched. Normally, a bee's wings would be a blur, but here, they seemed frozen.

Then a silver-haired boy in a silver leather outfit appeared, wearing distinctive glasses, eating bread.

Strangely, the car next to him was frozen mid-motion. Water splashed but hung suspended in the air. Trees around were motionless.

Quicksilver.

His identity was obvious. But this Quicksilver was different from the one in their universe.

"So this… is the speedster's perspective?" Tony whispered.

They saw everything slowed from the speedster's point of view. Even the students at the school were frozen mid-action—a complete contrast to their usual perception of speedsters as mere lightning streaks.

Once a speedster reaches full velocity, the world slows, or even pauses entirely.

"Is this how you see things normally at super-speed?" Wanda asked, calming the chaos of her own magic.

"How would I know? I'm not a speedster," Pietro replied, exasperated. He felt like Lin Feng had singled him out for humiliation.

He stared at the video, determined to see the difference between himself and a speedster from another universe.

He wouldn't accept losing. Losing to the Flash was one thing—but losing to another version of himself? That was utterly embarrassing.

As the video continued, everyone's expressions shifted. They finally understood the true nature of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters.

Some students even had blue skin—clearly not ordinary humans.

So-called "geniuses" were in quotes. These weren't ordinary prodigies, but individuals with powers or extraordinary physiology.

For regular humans, this seemed impossible—but for this group, it was normal. Among them were gods, gamma-mutated monsters, super-soldiers, spider-powered heroes, and magical beings.

Thus, seeing the students' unusual appearances was unsurprising.

Before anyone could react, Quicksilver had vanished, leaving behind a flying business card: Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters.
