Chapter 219 - Maybe We've Already Been Erased and Just Don't Know It?

Why haven't they been erased?

"Because we might have already been erased, but we just don't know it!" Bruce Banner said. "Because the formation of a timeline isn't like we imagine, expanding backward second by second, or even smaller units, stretching for countless billions of years to reach the end of the timeline. On the contrary, if you stand in a higher dimension, time might be born all at once, from beginning to end. That's how everything is already fated, no matter how hard you try, you can't change it. So our existence might have appeared the instant Lin Feng appeared, but at the same time, we were also erased, we just don't know it. Even for those in a higher dimension, this timeline only exists for an instant, but for us, we've lived a whole lifetime!"

"Before, what the Ancient One said... didn't the Ancient One say that no matter what she did, she would still die at this point in time? No matter how she tried to influence the process, she only got worse results, so she was killed so easily, largely because she saw no hope of surviving this tribulation!" Bruce Banner continued. "So that was a false future; no matter how it developed, the final outcome couldn't be resolved. It looks like there are countless possibilities, but in reality, none of those possibilities exist.

Lin Feng said in his diary that Justin Hammer might become Iron Man, but that possibility never existed. From beginning to end, there was only you. Even time might be fixed; even me being exposed to gamma rays and becoming a monster, these are all fated, not those other things. For example, a timeline where I wasn't exposed to gamma rays might not even exist; it's all fake!"

Tony Stark, hearing this, didn't feel any better just because Justin Hammer couldn't become Iron Man. Instead, he asked, "You mean... fate?"

Because it was fated to be this way, Tony Stark was fated to become Iron Man, and Peter Parker was fated to become Spider-Man.

And Bruce Banner was fated to be exposed to gamma rays, with a guy called Hulk appearing in his body.

"This was all a script written long ago!"

"No, it's not destiny, but it's close!" Bruce Banner said. "Because it's not truly predetermined. I've been thinking a lot, and I've figured it out a bit!"

"Someone has modified it, and that person is the TVA!" Tony Stark said. "It seems like there are countless possibilities for the future. A single timeline extending outwards is called a timeline. Countless timelines extending outwards can be understood as a time jungle, similar to the concept of a grass jungle. But in reality, there's a gardener who cuts off all the timelines that they deem incorrect, leaving only one timeline. And that is what is called destiny!"

Everyone gasped. If they understood destiny from this perspective, it would only make their hair stand on end. Destiny went from being ethereal and vague to becoming real.

Originally, there was a joke about a nonexistent God controlling destiny, that everything was God's will.

But that was just a cliché, or something that only deeply religious people would believe.

But now, that virtual God had been transformed into the real TVA.

That was the most terrifying part. Every action of theirs was arranged by others, like puppets performing on a stage.

All incorrect timelines were pruned, so a fixed destiny could be formed.

"So, the Ancient One's death wasn't just because Lin Feng joked about expensive special effects. It was because the Time Variance Authority wanted her dead. No matter how she tried to save herself, at that point in time, she was destined to die, to follow that path!" Natasha suddenly understood. "Although there might have been countless possibilities originally, the Time Variance Authority gradually pruned away the extra ones, leaving only one possibility!"

"So, she didn't willingly sacrifice herself because she couldn't resist the energy of the Dark Dimension. It was because she couldn't resist this kind of fate. Before the event happened, there were countless possibilities, but after it happened, no matter how many there were, they would collapse into one!" Nick Fury said.

"So, there's never been any infinite possibility. There's always only one future. If unexpected possibilities emerge, they'll be pruned like this. This possibility is like… someone standing at the end of infinite time, looking back!" Tony Stark immediately followed up. "I get it. Maybe the Time Variance Authority is at the end of time, the end of the entire multiverse's destruction. Looking back from that point, everything has already happened, a predetermined fact. In other words, in our eyes, we think the future is endless, but in the eyes of the Time Variance Authority, it doesn't exist at all, right? Countless billions of futures have already collapsed into one!"

"So, they can't allow anyone to change this predetermined history, because any small change could give rise to a new timeline, which might trigger a new multiverse war, thereby shaking their ruling position!" Rogers (Captain America) said.

He wasn't afraid to guess the purpose of the TVA from the darkest perspective.

The so-called prevention of multiverse wars was just a pretext. The founding spirit of America was still freedom and democracy, but in the end, they still tried to smear and defame a soldier who set himself on fire, calling him a lunatic and a cultist.

Yet, he was just a pure patriot.

"Who gave them this right? Who!!!" Tony Stark roared in a low voice. Although his parents had died in this timeline, would they still be alive and well in other timelines, only to be pruned by the Time Variance Authority on the Sacred Timeline for being illegitimate?

Thinking of his parents, he immediately felt a bit overwhelmed.

Even his own, that predestined death, was it really predestined?

"Ultimately, it's about power. They have that kind of power, and they have that kind of will, so their timeline became the Sacred Timeline!" Nick Fury said, a sneer playing on his lips.

Because, in fact, he was simply too familiar with the Time Variance Authority's methods. Didn't S.H.I.E.L.D. handle things in pretty much the same way?

For instance, certain supervillains, certain individuals who threatened world peace, and certain anomalies – their methods of arresting people were almost identical.

They also possessed equipment designed to deal with these extraordinary beings. When they went after those people, it was probably similar to how the Time Variance Authority dealt with Loki.

Both were essentially similar organizations, both aiming to maintain stability, except they maintained the stability and safety of Earth, while the Time Variance Authority maintained the stability and safety of the timeline.

So, it was the same in essence, nothing more to say!

Everyone fell silent, and after a moment, Hawkeye Barton said jokingly, "Time Criminal, I never thought I'd become a criminal one day, and a Time Criminal at that. This world is too crazy!"

Lin Feng's diary showed everyone the possibility of becoming so-called Time Criminals, no, maybe they already were. Everyone sighed with emotion.

Lin Feng, who had just finished writing in his diary, sighed. He was also troubled. The existence of the TVA was detrimental to those on other timelines, as it would erase you without hesitation.

However, the TVA also had its value. Without the TVA, Earth might have been destroyed countless times: a world ruled by Hydra, a world devoured by Dormammu, a world overrun by zombies, a world conquered by Asgard.

And most importantly, there was another point: a new Celestial was about to be born on Earth, and even the life on Earth, from a setting perspective, was just resources prepared by the Celestial to give birth to its own race.

It was Thanos's snap that interrupted the birth of this Celestial; otherwise, the entire Earth would have been torn apart. It was like on the continent of Azeroth, once Ai Jiang was born, the entire planet would be completely destroyed.

Lin Feng didn't want Thanos to truly complete the final plan, but he also didn't want the Celestial to be born.

So the best way was to let Thanos succeed in the first half and fail in the second half.

But if Thanos really snapped his fingers, how could he ensure he would survive?

A fifty-fifty chance, completely random, and it had nothing to do with how strong you were.

This was very dangerous, and without the TVA, who knew if the Avengers could win the final war and bring everyone back.

So Lin Feng was also anxious, very anxious.

It was a lose-lose situation.

And this world was so strange, with Spider-Woman and Wonder Woman. Who knew what else might pop up? He couldn't even imagine it. He both hoped the TVA would come and cover his back, ensuring things ended up more or less alright, but he also feared they would come and eliminate him, the heretic, first.

It truly put him in a dilemma.

"Or perhaps, this timeline is completely independent of the Sacred Timeline, not one that split off from it?" Lin Feng muttered to himself. He couldn't be sure; he knew nothing.

In fact, contrary to what everyone thought, he also didn't know a lot.

The things he did know were from watching movies and TV shows in his previous life.

So his only option now was to improve his strength, improve it comprehensively, and seize the initiative.
