Chapter 6 - The One's Desires 2

The aftermath of the Great Elemental War left Tenria scarred, its once-vibrant landscapes now littered with the ruins of kingdoms and cities. The air itself seemed heavier, burdened by the lingering echoes of death and magic. Among the few who survived, Kenjiro Yamato, the Light Elemental, remained as the last beacon of hope, his soul weighed down by the loss of friends and allies. But fate had more in store; centuries later, a young descendant would bear the legacy of the fallen: Takeru Yamato.

Takeru's awakening began in tragedy. He watched helplessly as Takashi, a close companion, sacrificed himself to protect him from a merciless attack by Malakar's forces. Emiko, their steadfast ally, fell under a barrage of blows, beaten yet resilient. Something inside Takeru snapped—a storm of grief, rage, and desperation that surged beyond his understanding.

He fell to his knees, trembling, tears mingling with the dirt and ash around him. Then, without warning, a colossal shockwave erupted from his body. Rocks shattered, trees toppled, and a powerful aura radiated from him, stretching like lightning across the battlefield.

"Takeru!" Emiko screamed, shielding herself instinctively.

Takeru's eyes turned black, void-like and pupil-less. His expression darkened, yet his aura burned with a strange, uncontrolled light. Energy, Earth, Water, and Wind converged with the Fire that had always been his own, forming a symphony of raw power. The very ground seemed to bend and respond to his emotions, shaking and cracking as his hidden abilities surged forth.

At that moment, Xandros, Malakar's right-hand general, approached with a cruel grin. His dark powers pulsed around him, shadows writhing like serpents.

"Foolish boy… you'll die like your friend!" Xandros sneered, stepping into Takeru's newfound aura.

The clash began violently. Takeru's elemental attacks intertwined—a whip of water, a pillar of earth, gusts of wind, and scorching fire—all combined in chaotic harmony. Xandros countered with shadow magic, each strike tearing through the battlefield and scattering debris like confetti. Both combatants were relentless, battered and bleeding, yet neither would yield.

Takeru's mind raced as he fought, balancing his grief with strategy. The memories of Takashi and the suffering of Emiko fueled every strike. He drew upon his elemental powers with precision, his inner energy finally coalescing into a single, devastating form—a sword forged from Fire, Earth, Water, Wind, and raw Energy.

He lunged. The sword, glowing with combined elemental force, sliced through Xandros' defenses. Limbs severed, shadows dissipated, and in one final, blinding strike, Xandros fell, split in half by the brilliance of Takeru's power. The Dark Army, leaderless and terrified, was engulfed in a massive fire blast, their forces incinerated in an instant.

Exhausted, Takeru collapsed to the ground, his chest heaving, body trembling under the strain of his powers. Hours later, the Seven Great Mages arrived alongside healers and paramedics, rushing the fallen hero to safety. Every survivor bore witness to the devastation, but Emiko's gaze remained sharp and wary, her suspicion lingering on one particular mage whose presence seemed… different.

At the hospital, Takeru lay in a sterile white room, bandages covering minor injuries, monitors beeping softly. Lyra Saito, a mage tasked with analyzing his abilities, approached with a device designed to measure elemental power. Yet despite the extraordinary display earlier, the device showed nothing.

"His Power Crystal must be depleted," Lyra concluded, furrowing her brow. "He may not be able to use magic openly for a while."

Even so, life demanded a return to normalcy—or at least, the semblance of it. Takeru returned to school, a place that now felt alien and constraining. His Power Gem was invisible, hidden from the tools that once measured and verified abilities. The whispers of classmates followed him through the gates.

"Hey, Takeru! What happened to your Gem?" Kazuki called, curiosity and envy mingling in his voice.

"Nothing. Just doesn't show up on this device," Takeru replied, careful to maintain casual indifference.

Inside Class 1-A, Professor Lila Nakahara began lessons in Elemental Control Techniques, her sharp gaze sweeping over the students. Today's exercise: water manipulation. Emiko partnered with Takeru, eager to help, yet Takeru struggled to summon the element. His hidden powers, a mixture of four elements beyond fire, remained dormant, inaccessible for public display.

Recess offered a brief respite. Takeru found solitude outside, Emiko joining him quietly.

"Takeru, what happened during the attack?" she asked, her tone soft yet insistent.

"Nothing. Just got lucky," he said, hiding the truth behind a calm facade, masking the turmoil still simmering within him.

Days passed, each one a test of restraint. In Physical Education, Takeru avoided exertion that might trigger his powers. In Elemental History, he excelled, impressing Professor Kaito Matsumoto with knowledge born of innate understanding rather than practice. One night, a dream visited him: a whisper, ethereal and commanding, urging him to awaken fully.

"Awaken, true elemental…" the voice breathed, lingering in his mind long after he woke,

By the fifth day, Emiko invited Takeru to her study group. He accepted, sitting beside her, their bond strengthening quietly amidst the shadows of his secret. Yet, by the seventh day, rumors spread like wildfire.

"Rumor has it, Takeru fought off the Dark Army alone!" Kazuki exclaimed during lunch, the cafeteria buzzing with curiosity.

Takeru shook his head, denying it, though a flicker of pride and pain mingled in his chest. The world had changed him irrevocably. Though he moved through halls of stone and light as any student might, the fire, wind, water, and energy within him lay hidden, waiting for the day they would be needed again.

Will he ever regain his powers..?
