Chapter 229 - Chapter 229: Wrong Move

Lana frowned the instant she saw him. 

Mr. Crow could practically feel the anger radiating off her and braced himself for an outburst. Instead, she spoke calmly, "What are you doing?"

He immediately retorted, "You've already used too much mystic energy. If you keep going, you'll faint."

Only then did Lana realize how weak her body felt. A flicker of surprise crossed her eyes, followed by guilt. She slowly leaned back. "I understand."

Mr. Crow finally heaved a sigh of relief. 'Good. She's stopping.'

The next second, Lana's soft voice wrapped around him. He didn't interrupt this time. Instead, he asked gently, "Why are you so angry?"

Lana turned toward the floor-to-ceiling window. 

The dark sky outside stretched endlessly, stars faint and distant.

"In my previous life," she said softly, "Lucian never asked such questions or dropped such hints. Now, it feels like he's misleading me. Otherwise, why would he ask whether I have a boyfriend?"
