Chapter 23 - Helping around the inn.

Kaito wakes up the next day, slobber all over himself and Lucky still sleeping soundly next to him. He rubs his eyes before sitting at the side of the bed. A sharp sting quickly reminding him of yesterday's battles.

He wonders what he was doing the night before and he remembers. Kaito recalls his energy fission and wonders how it works. "Repurpose energy?" He thinks to himself.

He focuses his body's energy on his wound, a fresh cooling feeling washes over his body as his wounds pain becomes a bit more bearable. He looks and can see it healing in real time.

Quickly the cooling sensation turns into exhaustion, and an intense feeling of hunger. He decides to stop using energy fission. "So it's healing?" Kaito thinks he understands but he needs to eat.

He leaves the room and starts looking around. Walking through the hallways and other rooms at the inn. Eventually wandering into the kitchen. Kaito finds a pantry in the kitchen and he grabs a pastry treat. He investigates it, never seeing a snack like this before.

He sits on the ground and eats, surprised but delighted by the flavor he continues eating them. Kaito then spots a dusty old box in the corner of his eye. His curiosity guiding him he opens up the box revealing a load of Blastie.

Quickly Dante runs over and shuts the box in a hurry. "Please don't steal it Kaito, please!" Dante pleads with him.

Kaito is confused by him, sliding another pastry into his mouth. "Why would I steal that, it's just a bunch of paper and metal?"

Dante realizing Kaito wasn't gonna steal anything he gets embarrassed and sits up. "It's not just paper it's Blastie I've been saving." Dante explains.

Kaito tilts his head as he eats another pastry. "What's it for?" Kaito asks with a mouthful of food.

Dante laughs. "It's for my mom, mom has always put what i want over what she does, she would buy me stuff even if it meant risking our house, year after year." Dante explains.

Dante takes a seat next to Kaito on the floor of the pantry. Kaito eats another pastry while listening.

"This year will be different though, moms birthday is coming up, and i'm gonna surprise her with getting a jewel my dad got her fixed." Dante says but then rubs his head in frustration.

"It's super expensive though so I've worked jobs all over town to save all this Blastie for her!" Dante explains.

Kaito nods, appreciating that he just wants to do something nice for his mom. "Why not be an adventurer they make Blastie right?" Kaito asks.

Dante looks away. "I actually can't use magic." Dante says.

Kaito is shocked! Dante can't use magic he had thought everyone can.

"I'm from a family of mages and can't use magic, but I really want to. I've always wanted to be an adventurer since I've never actually left the barrier, but I've read and watched tons of stuff all about the world!" Dante excitedly explains.

Tips: even though this is a world of magic, and is full of mages, every person alive can't actually use magic, about 20% of the population are actually mages.

Kaito feels a sort of kinship, or understanding with Dante, he knows the feeling of wanting to travel but unable to do so. The scar on his eye a reminder to him about going out unready.

Dante checks the time and panics. "I'm gonna be late to one of my part time jobs!" Dante panics. "Hey Kaito, do me a favor and help mom would you?!" Dante asks, but before Kaito can even answer he's gone.

Kaito with a stomach full of pastries stands up and looks for Dante's mother. He continues looking around as he looks for her. There he sees that magical box again with the little people. Kaito's eyes glow happily and he approaches the box. Tapping at it curiously.

The mother actually ends up finding Kaito as he's messing with the box. She quickly checks on him. "What are you doing out of bed?!" She questions him. "With how serious your injuries were you shouldn't even be able to walk!" She shouts.

Her worry reminds Kaito of his own mother. He thinks about how she had reacted when he was hurt, Constantly worrying. "I'm fine Ms, Dante's mom." He quickly says.

She looks offended. "I don't like the sound of that. Just call me Ms Lilah, ok?" She tells Kaito.

"Ok Ms, Lilah." Kaito agrees.

She scopes him out now that he's moving and notices that he probably doesn't have money on him. "How about this Kaito, you seem to get along with Dante, so instead of paying while you recover you can just help out around the inn." She proposes.

Kaito thinks on it for a while, but realizes with his injuries he most likely won't be heading anywhere anytime soon. Also since he's not as hurt he can actually take in who Lilah is.

She has a soft but sharp face, long dark blue hair with eyes matching in color just like her son. Wearing simple comfortable attire, all matching her feeling as a mother.

Kaito agrees to help out around the inn. Later in the day Dante returns and sees Kaito again messing with the box in the room. "What're you doing?" Dante asks.

Kaito looks over noticing him. "I'm trying to figure out how this thing works, I saw tiny people inside of it yesterday."

Dante laughs as he walks over picking up the remote and he turns it on, "it's called a television, or we call it a TV." He explains still laughing.

Kaito pins his face to the TV seeing a show depicting a documentary of sorts, "woah this is crazy!" Kaito says before pulling his face back rubbing his eyes. "How come the village didn't have this stuff?!"

Dante remembers their conversation from yesterday. "Right you're from outside the barrier, the crystia barrier provides a special kind of field that protects from the electro magnetic fields from the planet allowing technology to exist inside of the barriers, but only inside." Dante explains.

Kaito is looking at him like he just said a bunch of nonsense. Which makes Dante laugh. "All you gotta know is this stuff doesn't work outside." He says.

Kaito nods slowly. "Why?" He asks.

Dante looks back at him, wondering if he's being serious. "I just told you...."

The next day feeling even better. After he had finished helping around the inn. He spent the rest of his day practicing his brand new sacred arte, energy fission.

It helped him so much he would workout his room so he wasn't losing any shape as he recovered. Also thanks to all of the help Dante had put a TV in the room for him. Which was fascinating him so much. He also found himself playing around with light switches.

Though Lilah would come often to get him to do random tasks she firgued out he was good at. She had made him climb the roof to clean the sign, cleaned out the rooms where other guests had left.

He and Dante would go grab groceries, and Kaito discovered sliding doors at the market blowing his mind. They were nearly kicked out because Kaito saw something that looked good on one of the TV's inside, and attempted to grab it through the screen.

He wakes up the next day earlier then usual, but he notices his stomach rumbling again. The constant usage of energy fission has greatly increased his appetite.

He goes downstairs and he looks around for things to cook with. He finds the spices, but wonders where all the meats are stored. Back at home his aunt May would use her ice magic daily to keep meat fresh.

Looking around their kitchen however he saw nothing of the sort. Until he opened up a strange door that released cold air. "Woah, this box is where they keep the meats!" Kaito pulls out a lump of meat. "This should be good for sausages!" Kaito says happily.

He grabs, bread, eggs, cinnamon, oil, and cheese.

Kaito throws on Lilah's apron, reading "bomb mom." In sparkling stones.

He cooks breakfast in the kitchen which eventually Lilah and Dante also come down smelling the meal.

"What's this? You're making us breakfast?" Lilah happily asks. Lilah then looks over at Dante with a sly smile playing on her face.

"Si tan solo hicieras esto." She giggles.

(If only you would do this.")

Dante shakes his head.

Kaito smiles. "Oh good morning!" Kaito greets them both happily.

"What's the occasion?" Dante asks him.

Kaito shakes his head. Focusing on cooking. "No occasion I just want breakfast."

Lilah clicks her tongue. "You know Kaito, you're under our care, we should be cooking for you." Lilah says.

Kaito nods. "I know, but i'm helping aren't I?" He sarcastically responds which makes Lilah laugh. "Right, right." She says.

Kaito gives the two of them plates and then sits with them. Lilah and Dante are both surprisingly please by the food. Kaito had made a very simple French toast, eggs, and sausages patties. But the taste was just amazing, perfectly fluffy eggs, the sausage patty was juicy and deliciously tender. And the French toast was fluffy and light.

Lilah continues digging in then nudges Dante. "Tienes que trabajar más duro o te despedirán." She playfully says.

Dante's skin crawls. "Mom!" He shouts. Kaito smiles. "What did she say?" He asks.

Dante rolls his eyes. "That she enjoys the food." Dante answers.

Lilah happily waves her arm. "Kaito you're such a dear, call me Aunt Lilah from now on K?" She asks.

Kaito nods happily. "Ok auntie Lilah." He says. They all finish breakfast.

"Kaito you made extra for the other resident staying here right? Lilah asks him. Kaito nods. "Of course." He responds.

Lilah fist pumps that she wont have to cook today. "Kaito you're on dinner today too!" She demands.

Kaito smiles. "Ok auntie."

Dante and Lilah go on about their days and Kaito continues to work on his sacred arte. The healing has become quicker he doesn't feel the pain as much anymore.

After a long day Kaito makes curry which the family enjoys. And after words as everyone sleeps Kaito continues his training.
