When they reached the bottom of the stairs, old Roy was playing chess while standing guard. In front of him were several young people and some slightly older ones complaining about his playing style, but they were having quite a bit of fun.
He moved his chess pieces back and forth and beat them continuously. This old man, although drunk, was very good at chess and used to take breaks to play when it was his turn to guard the door, as the permanent members of this place used to take turns.
"Old Roy, what did I tell you about playing chess during working hours?" Martin said as soon as he saw him.
Roy turned to look at him and noticed Ryan and Cecily standing next to him. "What are you doing here? Did you come to play with me, or is it time for a change?" he asked.
"Haha, dream on. You still have a long time on duty," Cecily teased from the side.
