Chimera. A monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature, typically depicted with the body of a lion, the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a snake for a tail. Originating from Greek myth. In real life, they were humans with hereditary magic within them from generations gone. The magic came from mysterious entities called Eldrins. No one had ever seen them. No one knows where they are, nor if they are still alive.
That's what was In a book that Roy read. His father was a chimera. Depending on what Eldrin your magic came from, was what your magic was.
Why was Roy thinking of this now? Maybe it was because he is sitting in the back seat of a police car, getting driven to his new home after having two family members die in the span a month.
After an hour or so of driving and failed attempts by the driver to make Roy feel better, they passed this old farm house with dozens of dead crows lying on the ground in a circle.
They had been out of the city of Lessa for a few hours by now and Roy could feel that they are getting close to their destination.
"Uh, we're here. This is your new home."
They pulled down an long, isolated driveway off the road. It lead on for a bit, but eventually a large house came into view.
"Welcome to Morgan Manor, Roy." Said the driver, trying to sound happy.
They both got out. Roy slung his Grey backpack over his shoulders and followed the driver (whose name is apparently Bart) to the door.
It wasn't so much a house as it was a mansion. Wide and tall. It had too many windows to count, each one perfectly clean and clear. The door was a brown wood with black metal straps and bolts branching across it like a great oak, and in the center of it was a knocker shaped like the face of a loin, mouth wide open like it was ready to pounce. The yard was massive. Lush and green. It seemed to stretch on forever.
Bart took the handle of the knocker and hit It against the door in three consecutive knocks. After about twenty seconds, it opened and in the doorway stood a tall man in his fifties or sixties in a Grey suit.
"Hello Roy. Welcome home."
