Chapter 33 - TOA 33: Apollo's Efforts

Medea arrived at Apollo's temple at her fastest speed. She didn't even dare to linger too much, forgetting to smooth out the wrinkles on her clothes, and just walked straight into the temple, completely unable to concern herself with whether this behavior was disrespectful to the god.

Then, she prayed in the most devout posture.

"I pray to you, great Apollo... please save Morpheus and your sister Artemis!"

She was so anxious, waiting for Apollo's response, and Apollo's response did indeed appear.

Accompanied by gentle light, the handsome man with golden curly hair manifested in the light. He first comforted the extremely tense girl. "Don't worry, daughter of Aeëtes... your beloved will not be in danger. His power is so strong that he won't encounter a crisis because of something like that.

"You just need to wait a while, waiting for them to escape on their own."

As the god of prophecy, Apollo could see some future events, and this finally calmed Medea's originally tense heart. She believed Apollo; no matter what, besides Morpheus, Artemis had also been dragged into that mysterious vortex. Even if Apollo wanted to harm Morpheus, he wouldn't harm Artemis.

Moreover, the relationship between Apollo and Morpheus seemed quite good; they had communicated on Mount Olympus, and obviously with laughter and conversation.

However, regarding what exactly that vortex was, Medea still couldn't understand.

"That is the trap laid by Typhon. Since being defeated by Zeus, Typhon has always been unconvinced. It believes its failure was because the gods used schemes and tricks, and the most important among them was the Ephemeral Fruit. Because it swallowed the Ephemeral Fruit, Typhon lost its power and became weak.

"So, even though it lost its power and was in slumber, Typhon always wanted revenge. For this, it has been accumulating power... from spending a hundred years to accumulate the first thunderous power belonging to the god-king Zeus, then relying on this power to condense the second thunder at a faster speed, repeating constantly, faster and faster, thus creating that trap..."

Apollo spoke as if telling a story.

"Do you know that the Ephemeral Fruit actually possesses its own consciousness?"

"Its own consciousness?"

"Yes, even without a form, the Ephemeral Fruit indeed has its own consciousness. The Moirai letting Typhon eat the Ephemeral Fruit was actually letting the Ephemeral Fruit sacrifice itself. For the Ephemeral Fruit, this was like the gods abandoning it."

Apollo said this and sighed.

"I've always wondered if it resents the gods..."

Saying that, he shook his head again: "It should indeed resent; only resentment can alleviate the pain of being sealed together..."

"But... the power displayed by Typhon this time doesn't seem weakened. The might it showed, even without getting close to feel it, from outside I felt it was no different from the power the god-king displayed when confronting the Gigantes that day!"

Medea's words made Apollo smile.

"That's because of the Ephemeral Fruit's choice. When it discovered the possibility of escape, no matter how slim that chance, it would definitely try it. Therefore, the Ephemeral Fruit reversed its own power, instantly restoring Typhon from a state of power deficiency to a perfect state."

Saying that, Apollo corrected himself: "A perfect primordial dragon state. Even with the Ephemeral Fruit's power reversal, it couldn't let it possess what it originally didn't have, so Typhon couldn't restore to its Machine God state."

Medea finally understood why that battle looked so thrilling. Even though she didn't see most of the process, when the divine temple collapsed at the end and everything was revealed, why she felt a terrifying power as if Zeus had descended.

Not only Morpheus's power was like that, but Typhon's power as well!

However, the Ephemeral Fruit that chose this...

"No need to worry about it; it will have its own choices. For it, sinking into silence in this era, or hiding, or traveling, or choosing to wait forever for an era it is willing to emerge in... all are its choices. Its mission has ended; the gods won't interfere with its will."

"No, I just want to smack it. It suddenly did something so dangerous!" Medea said discontentedly: "Suddenly liberating all of Typhon's power... if Morpheus wasn't powerful, wouldn't it be over!"

This sentence could be understood as "If Morpheus wasn't powerful, the world would be in danger," or "If Morpheus wasn't powerful, Morpheus would be in danger." Although it should be understood as the former, Apollo, relying on his understanding, on observing Medea's demeanor at this time, and especially on his prophetic ability, confirmed that Medea meant the latter.

Compared to the world's crisis, for Medea, her man's safety was the most important.

Watching the future developments... that Medea who fell into control because of the Golden Fleece, ultimately killing her own relatives, and later betrayed by the person she helped even at the cost of killing relatives... Apollo suddenly smiled: "I have to say, meeting Morpheus is indeed the best opportunity in your lifetime."

This sentence made Medea blush involuntarily, and Apollo began to doubt why the future Medea he saw in prophecies, and the current Medea, were obviously love-brained, but the future Medea became so hysterical?

In that future that would no longer develop, did she indeed suffer some stimulation?

Because she personally killed her own relatives, thus always bearing inner pressure?

"Human emotions... no, changes in spirit indeed need more attention. But the god of love... she's supposed to be very familiar with this, yet completely inattentive. Using any means for the purpose is also one of her characteristics."

Apollo thought, looking again at Medea who was obviously still worried about Morpheus. A trace of apology flashed in his heart.

Even if he could pull the people out now, he couldn't do so, because this matter concerned his sister's happiness. So, he must let those two spend some time alone together.

Thus, Apollo asked: "You've been learning magic with Hecate, right?"

"Yes, great Apollo."

"You fought against the Gigantes last time, and battled the dragon beast this time, accumulating quite a bit of experience. Your power is also undergoing qualitative changes; these are changes brought by your experiences.

"However, you also have your weaknesses. Although the construction of the divine temple can to some extent prevent close combat, it's still passive. If you can strengthen your own attacks, even if strengthening ranged attacks, you can be safer."

Medea nodded lightly: "I understand what you say, but learning close combat is difficult; it's hard to master quickly."

"If you can learn the contents of this book completely, I can grant you a blessing: When you are in a place illuminated by light, your power will surpass mortals, and your eyes will observe everything!"

Apollo said, a book appearing in his hand. Medea looked at the book and found it shimmering with golden light, completely unable to see what was written on the cover.

"This is a test; only if you pass the test will I grant you a new blessing." Apollo, who had already given Medea a blessing once, said so.

And in his heart, he was also helpless about his own behavior.

"This is the only way to make her temporarily forget about that side for a while. The blessing is compensation. Sister, your brother is paying a lot for you..."
