Chapter 52 - Randy

AHH!

Vince shouted as he woke up from the world. He was drenched in sweat and felt a horrible stream of pain coming from his eyes and nose. Looking around, he noticed his eyes were dripping, soaking his bandages, and his ears were full of blood. Even through the pain, he remembered what he had to do, his life was in danger.

THUD!

Without even taking a thought about the pain or what else was going on, he quickly rolled off his bed, landing with a hard thud that almost damaged the floor. As his eyes locked onto the window, he rushed toward it, stumbling over his own feet.

Please don't be close, please don't be close! Vince thought, his mind falling full of worry, more than worry.

The window faced a random building blocking view of the main street leading to the mountains across the city. Vince opened the window. With a small fence blocking the way, he gripped both handles and ripped it apart. He stuck his head outside and scanned the street ahead.

Among the different people walking with dogs or children, and carriages moving across the streets, Vince noticed one figure very far away. It was almost reaching the mountains and could only be seen as a blur from the distance.

"AH! FUCK!" Vince shouted as an unbearable amount of pain jammed through his head.

H-How supernatural is he? Vince's mind almost lost itself from the pain.

Quickly crawling backwards toward the wall, he pressed his back against it and slowly closed his eyes as he dealt with the pain.

It got way worse than I expected, Vince thought, glancing toward his bed where a brown briefcase sat beside it.

With him very far from me, I have time to quickly get myself ready, he recalled as he stood up, hand pressed against the wall, slowly making his way to the bed.

Grabbing the brown briefcase, he noticed it was quite large. As he opened it, many items were inside. His dirty robe, as well as different clothing. His eyes scanned the black pants rolled up. Lifting them, he revealed a white cloth wrapped around an oddly shaped item. Slowly peeling the cloth away revealed five syringes. Their color was unknown, plain silver.

Quickly grabbing one, Vince looked at it in awe. The needle was long, and as he stared at it, he felt a strange sense of familiarity. Ignoring the feeling, he raised the syringe over his arm vein.

TSK!

He let out a small groan of pain as he shoved the needle into his arm. He injected the medicine. As it entered his system, he felt the flow spreading through every inch of his body from head to toe. He felt the fluid reach his brain, and finally the pain suddenly stopped and faded away.

Leaning back on the bed, Vince let out a sigh and rested his hand on his head.

"Finally, surprised it worked," Vince muttered to himself, eyes slightly widened.

Can't rest yet though, the Eyelessfreak or whatever she calls him still knows about the scent, Vince thought, worry creeping back into his mind.

He walked to the window and quickly jumped out. With the narrow space between the window and the wall, he had to slowly make his way along the side of the building. Turning to his right, he saw the street and multiple buildings standing tall.

If I'm correct, there should be a grocery down the street to the right, Vince thought as he began to jog in that direction.

With him being a Stacker and his body more defined, a simple jog matched the speed of a normal human running.

Feeling the fresh breeze, he continued to jog toward the grocery store. Passing buildings, he turned his head and saw a long alleyway.

Smiling, Vince ran inside.

The alleyway was dark and almost run down with a horrible smell to it, many pipes longed across the walls. In the distance he could see a far glare which was the other side of the alleyway, but to the left led another direction. Knowing the way, Vince ran toward the left.

Running toward the left were people laying down, each looking battered and sadness remained in their eyes. Running past them, a tall metal fence stood. Easily, Vince jumped from one wall to another, getting over the fence with ease. Straight ahead of him was another glare from the sun as he could see multiple people walking by and the street.

Running out and reaching the street, Vince took a sharp right and made it to the grocery store. The building was made out of fresh red bricks, only being one story.

Two big windows rested on each side of the dark wooden door, with multiple signs of different deals on the windows. The building itself wasn't the biggest, around the size of a master bedroom.

DING!

Upon opening the door, Vince smelled a fresh scent. The floor was made out of bronze tiles, and inside laid multiple stands, each stand having different items. In the middle was a smiling cashier with a huge smile. He seemed to be almost in his late 50s and wore a striped work uniform of green and white. The man had brown eyes, and his hair was covered by his hat that had the same patterns as the rest of his clothes.

"Why what happened to you, Vince?" The man spoke like nothing was strange, his tone unchanged.

Vince, taken aback, nervously chuckled. Right now nobody would ever suppose it was Vince, his face wrapped in bandages, his body covered in more bandages. Everyone would assume he was just a soldier or a strange man. Slowly, he approached the cashier.

"R Right… Randy, how do you know it's me?" Vince asked, trying to keep his tone at a stable level.

Randy just chuckled while wiping his eyes. "You used to come here almost every day after school! Ah, the memories!" Randy's voice was loud and nice.

He then lifted his hand and pointed toward his waist. Randy was not a tall old man at all, nor was he really known, as he wasn't born in Efora.

"You used to be this tall! You changed so much, and you want to come back all damaged! There's no way being a priest is that hard! Ha! Well, Vince, what are you here for?" His tone remained unchanged.
