"What happened?" Najenda asked, leaning forward slightly.
Leone and I glanced at each other, and Leone immediately covered her face as if she already knew what was coming next. I, on the other hand, simply watched her calmly, waiting to see what she would do.
"Boss, when I went to call Leone and Okun like you asked, I told you I didn't see them, but that wasn't true. I heard Leone saying she agreed to carry this pervert's child! Boss, isn't that against the rules? What happened to the no pregnancy or child rule?" Mine said, giggling mischievously at me. However, no one reacted the way she seemed to expect.
Najenda's expression darkened before she let out a sigh. Leone was bright red with embarrassment, and I could tell how uncomfortable she felt. As for me, I had completely different thoughts. At this point, I was starting to dislike Mine.
Not only could she see through me and tell when I was leering at others, but she was also ridiculously annoying. Maybe I was wrong for ever thinking I wanted someone like her.
First, she isn't my type. Second, I hate her personality, and even with my Teigu, she'd probably still retain those traits. Lastly, there's no point keeping someone I wouldn't be able to love, since I promised to love my women equally. She's practically flat and completely not my type. I guess this scrap should be left for Tatsumi, just like in the series.
With that thought, I reached a conclusion. Mine had been completely removed from my target list. I didn't even feel excited looking at her anymore.
"Mine, that was completely wrong of you to bring Leone's personal business up here. Since you heard it, you should've either kept it to yourself or told me privately. I've never seen Leone look this upset," Najenda said sternly, reprimanding Mine.
"I agree with the boss. Mine, that was wrong," Sheele added.
"I knew Leone and Okun had something going on since they kissed in front of everyone when they met. But you shouldn't say something so sensitive like that. Leone is an adult," Bulat said.
"Bwaaaaaah~!!! The new guy already did the deed?!" Lubbock cried out as if his heart had been shattered.
"Pervert and Leone are having a child?" Akame muttered expressionlessly, glancing between Leone and me.
Tatsumi, on the other hand, looked at me strangely, a hint of surprise on his face.
Leone simply stared at the floor in silence. I could tell she was embarrassed beyond measure and possibly hurt that Mine had exposed something so private in public. A sharp sting hit my chest seeing her like that. I wasn't angry about the sex, I was angry that Mine had brought up Leone and my conversation about having my child.
When I looked back at Mine, she looked like a scolded puppy, standing in the center while everyone reprimanded her. Her eyes were glassy, and she looked like she might cry at any moment.
"I—I AM SORRY, LEONE! I'M REALLY SORRY! I DIDN'T KNOW IT MEANT THAT MUCH TO YOU!" Mine cried, bowing repeatedly until her head nearly hit the ground.
Leone suddenly stepped forward and held her, stopping her from bowing again.
"It's fine, Mine. You apologized, and I know you didn't mean it. Just treat me to some good booze, hehe," Leone said, her face blooming into a bright smile as she patted Mine's head.
"Really?! T-Thank you," Mine muttered before hugging Leone.
I was surprised at how quickly Leone forgave her. Her way of life really was simple.
Mine then turned to me.
"I…I'm sorry for bringing you and Leone's business out like that. Please forgive me," she said, though I could still see a small pout on her lips.
"It's fine, as long as Leone forgave you," I replied with a shrug.
"Alright, that settles it. Now, back to our discussion," Najenda said, drawing everyone's attention again.
"Leone, I have no intention of stopping you from having a child. Just don't do anything that would prevent you from achieving your goals. That said, I don't really have a problem with it, anyone here could die at any fucking time," Najenda said before turning her attention to Tatsumi and me.
"Akame ran background checks on both of you, and we confirmed you have no ties to the Empire or the Imperial Army. From now on, you're officially part of the team," Najenda announced. The others clapped.
"Thank you," Tatsumi and I said at the same time.
"Well, that's all for today," Najenda said as she started to stand, but I suddenly raised my hand.
"Boss, I'd like to speak with you privately," I said.
Najenda raised an eyebrow. "Don't tell me you're about to say the same thing you told Leone that made her fall for you?" she teased.
I shook my head.
"Haha, I wouldn't dare. Though I do have to admit, you're a very beautiful boss," I said calmly, smiling as I met her gaze without flinching.
Everyone sucked in a sharp breath, shocked, especially Lubbock, whose mouth hung wide open.
"Hahahaha! You really are an interesting one, Okun. Very well, let's talk privately. I also have questions about that weapon of yours. It's a Shingu, not a Teigu," Najenda said.
"Wait for me outside, darling," I told Leone. She nodded, her face flushed, as she left the room with the others, leaving Najenda and me alone.
"So," Najenda said, her voice friendly yet authoritative, "what is it you wanted to tell me, boy?"
