Chapter 79 - Chapter 79 – The Test of Dominion

The battlefield shivered under the weight of silence, broken only by the occasional hiss of shadows curling around jagged fissures. The abyss had obeyed Vemy—his monsters, his will—but the new presence still hovered, massive, ethereal, and unreadable.

Vemy's claws dug into the fractured earth. He felt the pulse of every being around him, human and otherwise, all tethered in a fragile balance that he alone maintained.

One misstep, the abyss whispered. One lapse, and everything is yours to destroy—or theirs to take.

He shook his head violently. Not today.

From the edge of the battlefield, the cloaked figure stepped forward, flames coiling like serpents around him, dim yet unnervingly bright. "Do you understand what you have done, Herald?" he murmured. "You bend the abyss… but bending is only the first lesson. Control is forged through trial."

Vemy didn't answer. His eyes tracked the new entity, its massive wings unfurling, shadows twisting around it like living smoke. The abyss hissed with anticipation, its hunger barely restrained.

Jaylin charged forward, slicing through a smaller cluster of beasts that had slipped past Vemy's aura. "Vemy! Watch the new one! Don't let it test you too hard!"

"I see it," Vemy growled. Shadows lashed outward, meeting the ethereal presence. The contact was enough to stir it, but it didn't flinch. The aura pressed against him, probing, testing the limits of his command.

The abyss inside Vemy roared, but he forced it down, steadying himself. "Not yet," he said, voice layered in human and abyssal tones. "You obey me. All of you."

The colossus shifted, wings brushing the sky, and the lesser monsters fell back slightly, sensing the tension. The ethereal being's presence was like ice and fire at once—powerful, alien, and unyielding. It did not attack, but every pulse of its aura demanded submission.

Vemy's breath came in ragged bursts. He felt his muscles tear and mend under the strain, the abyss writhing within him, begging for release. Crush it. Bend it fully. Take everything.

He clenched his fists, forcing the hunger down. "I decide when it's time," he hissed. Shadows twisted around him, forming jagged chains that tethered the new entity to the battlefield, testing its limits without breaking it.

The cloaked figure laughed softly from across the field. "Good… but do not forget, boy. Power is never given without cost. Every bond demands blood. Every dominion demands sacrifice."

Vemy ignored him, focusing on the entity. His voice rang out across the battlefield: "Step forward or retreat. Obey or die. The choice is yours."

For a heartbeat, the creature did nothing. Then, slowly, its massive wings beat once, lifting it slightly above the ground. It tilted its head, as if acknowledging the command—testing him, measuring him, but not submitting fully.

The abyss inside Vemy hissed in frustration, but he held the leash. I am the apex, he reminded himself. I am the one who commands.

Jaylin dropped to a knee, panting, watching in awe. "Vemy… you're… controlling it. Somehow… you're controlling it."

"Yes," Vemy said through gritted teeth. "For now. But I won't be passive. I'll decide the battlefield. I'll decide the war. Not it. Not anyone."

The cloaked figure took a slow step closer. His flames flickered higher. "And what of the cost? Every act of dominion leaves a mark—on the world, on your body, on your soul. Will you bear it?"

Vemy's eyes glowed brighter. Shadows writhed across his skin, black lightning arcing along his claws. "I will bear it," he said, voice cutting through the tension. "I am no one's pawn. No one's herald. The abyss obeys me, and only me."

The ethereal entity let out a low hum, wings folding slightly as it hovered. It wasn't fully compliant—but it acknowledged him. The lesser monsters shifted in response, their allegiance to Vemy now unquestionable.

The battlefield seemed to pulse with new life. The fissures in the earth grew brighter, but Vemy's aura radiated over them, shaping the chaos, holding the storm at bay. For the first time, he felt absolute control—yet he knew it was fragile.

The cloaked figure smiled, dark amusement dancing in his eyes beneath the hood. "Impressive, Herald. But remember—every test has a greater one waiting. And yours… is only beginning."

Vemy's shadow-wrapped claws dug into the soil. His eyes burned with determination. The abyss within him was still hungry, still dangerous, still alive—but for now, he had claimed his dominion.

The monsters bowed, the new entity lingered, and the gate behind the cloaked figure pulsed ominously. Vemy had proven himself, but the real trials were still ahead—and the world itself would be the stage.

🔥 Vemy has seized control of the abyss and dominated the battlefield—but the true test of his power is far from over, and darker forces loom closer than ever.
