Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: We are Friends

Contrary to popular belief, video games are not the most popular form of entertainment in this world.

Every holiday, office worker who are suffocating in their office will come to the local racecourse to watch the race between Umamusume.

There girls have more than just ears and tails.

Their ability cannot be explained by modern science. Their physical fitness far exceeds that of ordinary people, allowing them to possess strength that even adult cannot match from birth.

When they reach adulthood, the gap widen further.

At their peak, an Uma Musume has three to five times the strength of a normal person, and they can easily lift weights of hundreds of kilogram.

However, the competition is not simply a contest of strength with whoever is the strongest winning.

So the people have created a highly popular program called.

[The Twinkle Series]

This sport program run by the URA group is divided into two parts: the 'official races' and the 'winner's stage'.

Similar to a foot race, the girl's compete by running on a horse racing track and the winner goes to perform the equivalent to an idol show and retrieved their trophy.

In simpler term, it's a sport combining athletics and idols. Making it very famous all over the world. Tracen being a school who specializes in training Umamusume for those types of competition.

"That why only Uma Musume are admitted. Ordinary people would collapse from exhaustion. They would have to run, sing and dance in a single day with little break in between."

"Now your body has little to no difference form an Uma Musume. Do you feel any difference form when you were human?"

"It's more light and agile, but I was thinking it was because I am a ghost."

"Ordinary Uma Musume also have this feeling."

"That's already is superhuman."

As long as they can exert force with their legs, they can jump several meters high.

"But the limit of an Uma Musume are far beyond that." Sunday Silence peaceful reflection in the window seemed to be hugging her shoulders. "It's just that the human record's stop there."

In the corridor, black leather boots with horseshoes stuck the marble floor with a crisp sound.

"We're almost there, just stay here during class."

To avoid causing more trouble, such has being bumped by a late Uma Musume or being asked friendly questions by enthusiastic people, Sunday Silence decided to take her to an empty classroom to pass time.

Beside this, there was a more important reason. Sunday Serenity noticed long ago, but hadn't asked about it due to various reasons.

Everyone who met her has called her 'Manhattan Cafe'.

With a 'whoosh' sounds, the classroom door opened automatically, and Sunday Silence voice rang out from the doorway.

"This way."

She called out.

The sound that Sunday Serenity heard was different depending on her position.

But it seems that only she can hear it. When she spoke to otherz, even is Sunday Silence speak beside her, it would not attract the other party's attention.

As I walked into the classroom, a strange feeling spread throughout my body.

A dimly yellow desk lamp, resembling a starry sky, dominated the line of sight, and slowly rotated on the rustic wooden table. The curtains painted with a starry sky pattern covered the room, and the sunlight penetrated the starry sky above, sprinkling dark blue flower on the floor.

The walls were covered with imaginative and bizarre patterns, and the blue and purple murals, like a dream, shimmer in the light.

The whole room exudes a fairy-tale-like sense of mystery.

"It seems someone got here first."

Sunday Silence made an unpleasant sound, and in the corners of the room stoodany misty black shadows.

From these black shadows, Sunday Serenity felt a similar aura to her own.

And there was more than one ghost.

"Get out of here, there's no place for you here."

Sunday Silence ruthlessly ordered them to leave, with a tone of utter boredom.

As if pushed by someone, the misty ghosts stretched their bodies and approach Sunday Serenity.

Even tho they were of the same kind, she couldn't help but feel like she needs to retreat.

This thing is a little scary...

There was the whistling of the wind where the ghosts passed inside the closed room. In their blurry figures, a clear line of sight could be felt, like a thorn in the back or like being you were being watched by a wild beast. Thus making Sunday Serenity uneasy.

Bump--!

Just as a ghost was getting closer, a big hole suddenly appeared in it's body. Black matter floated in the air, ignoring gravity, and slowly dissipated under the dim light.

"Get out of here." Sunday Silence issues and ultimatum.

The ghost stopped, as if to think, then slowly went around Sunday Serenity, and left the room, followed by the other ghosts lurking in the room.

The strange feeling that was in the room finally disappeared.

"The darker the corner, the easier it is to see these guys."

"Ghosts...are they really that common?"

"Yes, they are everywhere, especially the weaker ones, they're more widespread, almost every household has a few."

"I-I see. By the way, what did you do just now?"

"I just punched it."

It's actually turned out to be physical exorcism. Not really since she's also a ghost, it's more like exorcism by force.

"Is it okay? There won't be any retaliation or anything like that later..."

"Most ghosts have no feelings, no joy, anger, sorrow or happiness. Sometimes you can talk to them, and they will answer you, but every word they say is devoid of emotions and extremely boring."

Ghosts like Sunday Silence, with a strong subjective will, are extremely rare.

After closing the classroom door, Sunday Serenity sat on the sofa, her back learning against a pillow that was also painted with the starry sky pattern.

"This is the room of Manhattan Cafe."

The seat next to her snake a little, and Sunday Silence said this in her ears.

"Manhattan Cafe..." She had heard the name more than once.

"Do we look alike?"

"When you look at her, it will be like looking at a mirror."

That more than just alike...

"Cafe spiritual constitution is the strongest of all the Uma Musume. She can even see the weak ghosts."

"That must have been hard for her..." Sunday Serenity could already imagine her being pointed and criticized by their parents, teachers and classmates when they were young.

"Have you two know eachother for a long time?"

"Very early on, as early as when she opened her eyes, the first person she saw was not her parents, but me."

Sunday Silence accompanied her throughout her childhood, and even when she came to Tracen and Manhattan Cafe become a racehorse, their relationship remained unchanged.

This made Sunday Serenity, who had entered Sunday Silence spiritual body, feel a little guilty. She had actually taken over the body of someone else's most important friend.

"I know what you're thinking, don't blame yourself for nothing. Anyway the current situation is much more interesting than I expected. Let me tell you, I'm very gratful. Now I feel like I've been reborn. I'm so happy."

"Is that so..." Regardless of whether it was true or false, Sunday Silence worlds dispelled the rising sense of guilt in Sunday Serenity heart.

"In that case, I will also regard Mahattan Cafe has a 'friend' just like you."

The girl snorted with pleasure.

"Can you tell me about what I should do?"

"It's very simple, you just need to remember one thing." The white ceramic coffe cup on the table reflected Sunday Silence figure. She then stretched out her finger and pointed it at Sunday Serenity, and with a firm tone she spoke.

"If you don't want to 'eat' her. Never let her see your face.
