Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: I Could Smell Her Scent

Kira remained expressionless, her icy glare fixed on Davies. He forced a smile and awkwardly stood up.

Mrs. Samuel approached them and said kindly, "Both of you should have fun."

Davies turned toward her and responded, "Thank you very much. We'll definitely have fun."

Mrs. Samuels then walked over to Kira and gently pecked her on the forehead. Kira grumbled in frustration—she didn't like forehead kisses, but her mother always loved doing it.

"Don't make things difficult for him," Mrs. Samuels advised seriously, her worry evident. She was concerned about her daughter's attitude when she was alone with Davies.

Kira grinned cheekily and replied, "Sure."

Mrs. Samuels looked at her with suspicion. "You promise?"

Kira stayed silent. She couldn't promise she wouldn't bash Davies's face into the wall after they left her house. She'd been angry all day, and this date felt like a chance to vent all her pent-up frustration.

Mrs. Samuels cupped Kira's chin, making her pout in annoyance.

"Promise me, darling," she insisted gently.

Reluctantly, Kira muttered, "I promise, Mom."

With that, Mrs. Samuels stepped back as Kira and Davies headed to his car. He started the engine and sped off. Mrs. Samuels watched them go, waving goodbye.

Inside the car was eerily silent, aside from the hum of the engine. Neither of them spoke. Kira sat stiffly, her face cold and her eyes icy—if looks could kill, Davies would've been dead.

He pretended not to notice her angry glare, opening and closing his mouth as if debating whether to speak. He hesitated, unsure of what to say or if he should say anything at all.

Kira didn't care. She kept her gaze out the window, watching the trees blur past and other cars rush by. Suddenly, Davies broke the silence. "That guy—he's he also your mate?"

Kira shot him a sharp, curt reply. "Why ask questions you already know the answer to?"

His face darkened, but he took a deep breath, trying to hide his frustration and disappointment. He'd heard from Kira's mother that she hated men, and this was her first date. He didn't want to ruin what might be a special moment for her, so he kept his cool.

He chuckled lightly to ease the tension, but didn't speak again. As the car entered the city, he broke the silence once more. "Have you been to the city center...?"

Before he finished, Kira turned sharply. "My family isn't poor enough that we can't afford a drive to the city."

Hearing her words, Davies's face went pale in shock. He quickly denied it, looking flustered. "That's not what I meant..."

Kira rolled her eyes, exasperation evident. "Whatever."

At that, Davies tensed, then relaxed his muscles. He pulled over and stepped out of the car. He hesitated, wanting to open the door for her, but she was already out.

He stood there, frozen, unsure of what to do next.

"Are we going or not?" Kira asked, irritation clear in her voice.

Davies snapped out of his daze. Without a word, he walked ahead silently, his face unreadable. Kira got back inside the car.

A moment later, as he approached the ice-cream shop, he realized she wasn't following. He went in alone, bought them some ice cream, and returned to the car. Handing one to Kira, he said, "We're going to the cinema after this."

Kira scooped her ice cream and replied flatly, "You're the boss."

Davies's expression fell. He pursed his lips tightly and started the engine, speeding off into the city.

He was approaching the cinema when Kira overheard a heated argument inside the car.

"Daniel, that's not true. She lied to you..."

"Get lost! Don't even come near me. I'm going to hit you..."

The moment the car came to a stop, Kira quickly got out. She saw a boy about to slap a girl in front of her.

Without hesitation, she rushed forward and grasped his arm mid-swing. Looking at the boy with cold disdain, she spat out, "Don't guilt-trip her or try to fool her. If you've moved on, just let her know you're no longer interested. Stop manipulating her. You're despicable."

Daniel froze, stunned by her boldness. His face darkened, and rage flickered in his eyes as he glared at Kira. The girl he was arguing with looked equally shocked.

"Miss, what do you mean?" she asked, suspicion evident in her voice.

Kira released her grip on Daniel's arm and wiped her hand on a handkerchief. Calmly, she replied, "Your boyfriend here has someone else in his heart. He doesn't love you anymore. He's been trying to make you think it's your fault that things are ending. He's been cheating on you—emotionally and physically. Someone like him doesn't deserve you."

Daniel's eyes widened in panic. He yelled, "That's bullshit! She's talking nonsense. Melody, do you believe her? Our three-year relationship can't compare to what a stranger's saying."

Kira sneered, "You cheated on her during those three years. Lied to her. Even pushed her into another man's arms to manipulate her into feeling guilty and blaming herself for what's happening. Why go through all this trouble to commit such evil?"

Daniel's expression shifted, fear replacing anger. His eyes widened further as he realized Kira knew more than he wanted. Clearly, she had caught him cheating before. Panic set in. Melody turned to Daniel, her face dawning with understanding. "You're friends with Herbert?"

Kira, meanwhile, turned and saw Davies watching her from a distance. She took a step toward him.

"Did you run off just for that?" Davies asked, surprised at her sudden urgency when she almost jumped out of the car.

"Are we going in or not?" Kira snapped impatiently.

Davies nodded. "Let's go."

They turned and headed toward the cinema.

Meanwhile, Pascal was unaware that Kira had gone out on a date with Davies. He had been searching for the alpha who had rescued Davies during their fight.

As he spotted Clifford coming out of a coffee shop, standing on a busy street, Pascal's eyes narrowed.

"I can smell her scent on you," he muttered quietly. "Are you also her mate?"
