Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The First Onslaught

The calm before the storm shattered like glass as a violent tremor ran through the Eternal Heaven Palace. The jade spires swayed, runes dimming against the encroaching darkness.

The sect's watchers alerted: a massive tear had opened in the void beyond the realm, spilling monstrous shadows like a flood descending on the fragile sanctuary.

Xianzhe Tianya appeared at the sect's highest platform, his eyes sharp and unyielding. "The enemy is upon us. Defend the Eternal Heaven Palace with your lives."

Lan Yue drew her blade, its edge gleaming with divine light. Around her, the disciples formed ranks—Chen Wei weaving Dao Arts barriers, Shi Jing erecting complex formations, Mei hurling alchemical bombs, and Rong'er channeling spiritual light through her altar craft.

The enemy surged forward—void beasts larger and fiercer than any before. Their bodies twisted from nightmare shapes, eyes burning with relentless hunger.

Lan Yue led the charge, moving with lethal grace. She slashed through the front lines, cutting down beast after beast. Yet their numbers seemed endless.

Chen Wei stepped forward beside her, releasing bursts of Dao energy that shattered incoming claws and jaws. His earlier doubts replaced by fierce determination.

Shi Jing's formations glowed with otherworldly symbols, binding several beasts and leaving them vulnerable. Yet even his intricate magic could only hold so many.

Mei's talismans exploded with healing light to mend wounds, while Rong'er's altar radiated a protective barrier, though it flickered under the relentless assault.

The battle raged with chaotic fury. Despite their combined efforts, the disciples found themselves overwhelmed, forced to retreat deeper into the sect grounds.

"Hold the line!" Lan Yue shouted. "We cannot let them reach the inner sanctum!"

Beasts clawed fiercely, one knocking Chen Wei to the ground. As he struggled up, a massive shadow lunged toward him. With a cry, Lan Yue intercepted, her blade glowing fiercely as she saved him in the nick of time.

The cost was high. The disciples were battered and bruised, their strength tested to the limits.

Amidst the chaos, a monstrous void god emerged—towering, armored in shifting shadows, its dreadful roar shaking the foundations of the sect.

Xianzhe's voice thundered within their minds, "This is the first of many leaders. Destroy it, or perish."

The disciples gathered their remaining strength for a desperate strike. Lan Yue and Chen Wei launched coordinated attacks on the beast's flank, while Shi Jing reinforced bindings to restrain it. Mei concentrated her alchemy to unleash a concentrated blast, and Rong'er summoned all her spiritual energy to bind the creature's movements.

Together, they struck true—the void god staggering under their unified assault.

With a final, radiant slash from Lan Yue's blade, the creature fell, dissolving into inky nothingness.

But victory was fleeting. From the rift, deeper horrors stirred, their numbers unfathomable, relentless as the tide.

Xianzhe appeared before the disciples once more, somber but resolute. "This war has only begun. You will grow stronger, or you will be swept away."

The Eternal Heaven Palace stood battered but unbroken. Its disciples, their bonds tested like tempering steel, prepared to face the dark tide swelling ever closer.
