Emily noticed the change in his expression; her steps faltered, and she lowered her head.
Lucian slid his hand across the screen. "Hello, Grandpa," he greeted.
"Heartless brat, is it not yet time to bring your wife home to meet the family?" Grandpa Sterling's voice cut through the speaker.
Lucian subtly glanced at Emily, his lips curling up slightly. "Grandpa, my wife… I will bring her home at the right time. You don't have to worry about her."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Grandpa Sterling was furious.
"Literally," Lucian answered.
"Lucian, you must know you are still the grandson of the Sterling family, and your wife… you are supposed to bring her home to meet the elders."
"Grandpa, you should know my wife is solely married to me and not to the Sterling elders." His response was cold.
Emily might not have heard whatever the grandfather had said, but from Lucian's response, she was able to make out the discussion.
She was the bone of contention.
