Pauline's face twisted with fury as she glared at the young lady. "You can't be telling the truth," she snapped.
Annabel's brow furrowed at the accusation, her pulse quickening. "Ma'am, you can eat all you want with your mouth, but you can't spout nonsense."
Pauline's temper finally snapped. "What is that supposed to mean? Aren't you lying when you say Emily who loves work more than her life, would be absent! Aren't you being ridiculous?"
Annabel took a deep, steadying breath in the hope to calm her fraying nerves. "Please, Ma'am, I have attended to you as I ought to, and with all sincerity have informed you Emily isn't in the office…so, it's certainly wrong for you to assume otherwise and accuse me without reason."
"You shut up! What do you know?" Pauline barked.
Annabel's head throbbed as she stared at the lady before her. "Ma'am…" she started.
But Pauline cut her off "Emily doesn't miss work, she must be there but had instructed you."
