Third POV

Adrian's heart stopped. 

What? 

The boy who placed the mark? 

That was impossible.

His thoughts raced with questions that demanded urgent answers. 

He needed clarification. How and why was it him? 

The sentence lingered in the air between them, fragile and dangerous, like a truth spoken too soon.

His brain seemed to have short circuited so that he couldn't respond immediately.

Confusion swirled in his eyes as he lifted his gaze to meet hers just while the heavy unbearable silence clothed over the room. 

Stella's heart thumped against her chest as she stared at Adrian's face. 

Though she might not recall every dream and memories that coursed through her brain at this time, this particular memory was all too clear. 

Too clear and personal that it felt like an opening into her turbulent world. 

No doubt, she had forgotten about the incident since the mark were invisible but who would have thought that it had always been there only that it never met the owner.
