Chapter 2 - Detective Jameson's introduction

Detective Jameson sat at his desk, sipping his lukewarm coffee as he stared at the stack of files in front of him. Emily's case was already gaining traction, and he knew he had to move fast. He began by reviewing the security footage from the park where Emily's belongings were found.

The grainy video showed Emily walking into the park, phone in hand, and then... nothing. She just vanished. Jameson's eyes narrowed as he rewound the footage, studying it frame by frame. There was no sign of struggle or pursuit. It was as if Emily had simply disappeared into thin air.

Jameson's phone buzzed, breaking his concentration. It was his partner, Detective Rodriguez.

"Hey, Jim. I've got something on the Emily case," Rodriguez said. "I've been reviewing the witness statements, and one of the café patrons mentioned seeing Emily arguing with someone earlier that night."

Jameson's interest piqued. "Who was it?"

"According to the witness, it was a young guy, maybe early twenties. Description matches Emily's boyfriend, Ryan."

Jameson made a note on his pad. "Get Ryan's alibi for the time Emily went missing. I want to talk to him ASAP."

As he waited for Rodriguez to bring Ryan in for questioning, Jameson continued to review the case files. Emily's phone records showed a flurry of activity in the hours leading up to her disappearance, but nothing after 10 PM. Her social media accounts were inactive, and her email inbox was filled with unread messages.

Jameson's gut told him that Emily's disappearance was more than just a simple case of someone going off the grid. There was something more to it, something that didn't add up.

When Rodriguez arrived with Ryan, Jameson could see the worry etched on the young man's face. Ryan's eyes darted back and forth between the two detectives, and his voice trembled slightly as he asked, "What's going on? Why am I here?"

Jameson leaned back in his chair, his expression neutral. "We're investigating Emily's disappearance, Ryan. Can you tell us where you were last night between 10 PM and midnight?"

Ryan hesitated, and Jameson's instincts kicked in. Something wasn't right.

"I... I was at home, studying," Ryan said finally. "I didn't leave my apartment until this morning."

Jameson raised an eyebrow. "Can anyone confirm your alibi?"

Ryan shook his head. "I was alone. But I didn't do anything to Emily. I love her. I'd never hurt her."

Jameson's expression remained skeptical. He wasn't convinced. "We'll need to take a closer look at your alibi, Ryan. And we'll need to ask you some more questions."

As Ryan left the interrogation room, Jameson couldn't shake the feeling that he was hiding something.

"Rodriguez, dig deeper into Ryan's background," Jameson said. "I want to know if he's been in any trouble before. And get me everything you can on Emily's phone records. I want to know who she was talking to in the hours leading up to her disappearance."

Rodriguez nodded. "On it, Jim."

Jameson's eyes lingered on the security footage, his mind racing with possibilities. Where was Emily? And what had happened to her?

The investigation was just beginning, and Jameson was determined to get to the bottom of it.
