Chapter 17 - Chapter Seventeen

Chartreuse…Wednesday…

I glared at the one guy I hated bitting into his wrist as Dr. Fred injected him with so many serums. He looked unfazed but I was scared. When he took off his hoodie, I found his body to be covered with bulging veins and even Dr. Fred panicked. His body looked so pale and I could notice his vines retracting but his eyes remained red.

What the hell happened to Evan?

"He doesn't look mentally stable." I said.

"He is perfectky fine upstairs but I think his darkness is consuming his thoughts. His emotions are definitely in shambles." Dr. Fred replied, taking off his gloves.

Daphne barged in and I looked at her. She didn't even spare me a glance and just moved straight to Evan, crouching before him and holding his face in her hands. I swear I saw his eyes darken.

"Do you need blood? You should have said so?" Daphne said.

"I am afraid your blood is not what he wants, Daphne." Dr. Fred said and walked out of the room.

Daphne looked confused but when she was about to speak, Evan pulled her away by her hair. I felt relief immediately.

"What did I tell you, Daphne?" He said in a scary voice very different from his normal tone and his veins were bulging again. Even his vines were wrapping around his body once more.

"You shouldn't push me away. I am not pretending…." She said but his other hand wrapped around her throat and he suddenly smirked. I could literally see the darkness he was emitting.

"Evan…" I called but he didn't spare me a glance.

"I hate repeating myself." He squeezed her neck and she held his hand, gasping for air. I ran to him and tried to release Daphne from his hold but she pushed me down.

Doesn't she know she is about to die? Or does she want this? What has gotten into Daphne? She was never like this before.

"I told your mother that you marked me and she told me we should get married." She smirked and I saw Evan's face lose its humor. He pushed her to the ground and growled. He held his hair in his hands, blinking many times.

He was trying his best not to lose his mind. He staggered his way out because his vines were back in place and his veins were bulging. He was probably lusting for blood and all this happened because of Daphne.

I stood up, glaring her; "What the hell has gotten into you?"

Daphne stood up and lunged at me, forcefully pushing my hair to the side. Her eyes widened at what I wasn't sure of but she just huffed and walked away. What was going on?

I walked towards the mirror in the room and pushed my hair aside to see what Daphne saw. It was a mark. It was the sign of Ouroboros.

This was the exact same place I got bitten by Evan. Why did it suddenly form this? What does it mean?

I walked out of the clinic room wanting to find Evan. Maybe he had a suitable explanation for this. I got to the balcony of the clinic which faced the school garden. Evan was there, staring out to space and I couldn't find Daphne around and that gave me a relief.

"You look stressed. What's the matter?" I asked carefully. He didn't reply at first. His fingers twitched like he was struggling and clearly he was because his bulging veins were still clear. I can remember that yesterday, Evan barged out during recess all because of Daphne. What was she doing to him?

"You should go back to your classes, Chartreuse." He said coldly. I was finding it difficult to read this guy. One minute we are enemies, the next he is all over me. What was going on these days.

"The hunt at the Ashtern Forest is approaching. How are you preparing?" I asked.

That made Evan turn to me with wide eyes. He slowly became frigid again and turned away.

"We are not friends, Chartreuse." He replied instead.

Honestly, I don't know why I said that but I had the urge to continue our conversation.

"Neither are we enemies." I said.

"Then what are we?" He asked, more to himself than me "We hate each other, Chartreuse and I don't think we would make anything better by trying to become friends. It's best you stay away and I stay away. That way, I won't interfere. You should be happy with that." He spoke before turning around and leaving, walking past me in the process.

I could point out so many meanings in his words. Was he hurt that Jinx was not his or he was hurt that we could not be friends for some reason? That's stupid if I am being asked. I only hated him because he was gay and cocky but lately, he has been struggling and somehow polite and that made my heart go out to him.

I smacked my head. Get yourself, Chartreuse.

I am really confused. But one thing is sure. I have to tell Evan about this mark.

Evan…Wednesday…

Hunger…I was hungry but not for food and not just any type of blood. I needed Chartreuse so badly but I would never do what I did to her last night.

No way.

I guess we both have to go back to the way we were. Enemies, right? It was perfect for the both of us. If I hated her then maybe… scratch that. If I hated her like I always do then it would be easier to ignore the need for her blood. I also had to avoid Daphne. I don't know what might be possessing her but I am starting to believe her kinsmen has used her brain for a drastic ritual.

The Daphne I knew was actually very carefree and jovial. We always had small talks but she never showed any signs of wanting to have anything to do with me. Whatever that has gotten into her was definitely and undoubtedly the work of the devil.

I had to find a new way to feed. The hunt was approaching and I couldn't afford to lose control while at it. Mr. Sean didn't want me to participate anymore but I refused. I really wanted to participate.

I stayed under the cooling droplets from the shower. It helped my dark spirit and cooled my burning lust. I was losing it. Losing my sanity…

Honestly, I thought I could live by avoiding Chartreuse but I don't know when I started caring….

Daphne sat on her bed and took out her phone from under her pillow. She dialed a number and placed the phone close to her ear.

"Hello auntie." She sighed.

"Dear, what's wrong?"

"It's Evan. He hurt me." Daphne frowned in worry.

"What?! I hope it isn't serious?"

"No, it's not only that he fed from another girl and marked her in the process but the difference is what bothers me. She has the sign of the Ouroboros on her neck. He made her immortal!"

Evan's mother gasped on the other side. She frowned and then smiled. This was good news to her then. If Evan has found his beloved then it was time to let his father know.

She tried to hide her smile but it was hard; "Are you sure it was the Ouroboros?"

"I am not stupid, auntie. It was truly the sign of the Ouroboros."

"Then this is where it ends, Daphne. I will be calling off your engagement with my son." Evan's mother said.

Daphne was shocked. She stared at her phone then placed it closer to her ear.

"Auntie…?"

"You heard me right, Daphne. You mother never wanted this anyway so it shouldn't be a problem."

"You are supposed to help me talk to Evan and not…" Evan's mother disconnected the call and Daphne paused in shock.

What about the mark on her neck? It wasn't feigned but it was fading. She just hoped on her stupid fantasy and got slapped back to reality. This was painful.

Evan's mother, Lark Ville stood up from where she had been sitting. Her right hand man, Ryan moved closer to her.

"Prepare my car. I am going to pay Vandidar a visit."

Ryan looked shocked; "Did you finally got what you wanted?"

Lark turned to Ryan with a smile; "What I wanted? Evan has finally met his beloved. I only wanted Vandidar to know about his existence after he met his beloved. It would be easier to have something to use against him. That was what Hades said."

Ryan nodded.

"I believe you would also want to meet the beloved of Evan."

"Why yes."
