The day started like any other in my life as I got up for college with my mom calling my name for breakfast as I grogily got out of bed and the morning sunlight hit my face"I should really close those blinds before going to sleep" but ignoring that for now I. As I walked in I saw my father, a man in his early 50's with some white hairs, sipping his coffee while reading the newspaper and sister just starting high school, drooling over her phone with faint sounds of k-pop coming from it. The table was already set. As soon as I sat my dad looked over his paper,"So, Hyunwoo how's college life?" "Fine but it's only the first week ." "Find a good girl?" He said as a sly slime crept up on his face,"What kinda question is that?!" I said flustered, "Remember I meet you're mother in college." "Shut it both of you." Came a voice across the room. It was mom having made rice, fish along a bowl of kimchi stew, putting them on the table all the while glaring at dad.
I always did think how he managed to bag my mom she still did not have a single wrinkle even after all these years and I saw her and dad's old photo she looked beautiful but dad looked like a nerd though he had a glow up, "You literally begged on your feet for me to go out with you." I Nearly spit the water I was drinking and looked up he was fuming red "What are you talking about?!" "Nothing. Hey Chae-Su eat your food!" snatching away my sister's phone. "Mom just two minutes" looking pleadingly at her but soon started eating defeatedly after no reply. After eating I got reading to leave grabbing last minute things, "Be sure to take your jacket Hyunwoo, it's cold outside." My mother called after me "Yeah-yeah a little cold ain't gonna kill me." Plopping on the seat at the back of the bus I popped in my earbuds put on some songs and my mind began to wander thinking all the weird things going on around the globe earthquakes, tsunami's and other disasters going on at an unnatural rate but soon stopped with the bus doors closing and the display showing my collage the next stop.
That's when the show officially began.
I was a little ignorant of what was going on around me, only knowing that we were climbing the mountain to the collage, but not ignorant enough to notice the driver start to drive erratically making sharp turns making the bags overhead fall with people screaming at the driver to stop or what I thought as I looked outside.
I couldn't even comprehend what was going on outside. Bodies, guts, blood, limbs every horrible everything that should normally be inside the human body were lying outside on the ground people running the opposite direction of something I really couldn't see. The entire thing felt like a blur unable to comprehend anything I felt horrible fear hitting me like a bucket of cold water. I had no idea what was going on why was this happening? How can I escape? But most importantly, what caused this?
Until the inevitable happened, something crashed into the side of the bus I don't actually remember since I still didn't fully understand the situation with everything feeling like a nightmare a very-very terrible nightmare all of it feeling like a blur.
When I came too I didn't know the time but the sun was setting as opposed to the rising sun before. The bus had fully fliped with I as the sole survivor. I slowly got of the ground my body stumbling with shoting pains up my legs but the adrenaline keeping me from passing out of pain again. Hearing faint music I looked around, it was my phone still playing music since morning. Quickly picking it up I thought of calling the authorities get help but something dawned me, if supposedly the entire day had passed then why wasn't I in a hospital bed already? I decided to first get out of the bus. The other passengers were on the ground hopefully still fainted but I was to afraid to check. Limping out of the wreckage praying for help or anyone as pain shot up my legs but the outside made me fully understandstand the severity of the situation. Seoul was completely wrecked fires raging everywhere sirens ringing (with the occupants hopefully still alive) giving me hope that maybe the government was trying to help and this wasn't some apocalyptic situation I then thought about my family what about them? Panicking I immediately pulled my phone out and tried to call them even though the battery was low by playing songs aimlessly all day while I was out cold, but couldn't as cell service was cut off anxiety filled me as I tried to find service thinking of all worst case scenarios. What even caused this? An invasion? No then I would hear gunfire or bombings. Rabid animals from the zoo? It wouldn't cause this much damage. Protests? There isn't any new controversy with anyone that I didn't know. Finally attempting some sort rationality I tried to calm myself.
Maybe my family left the city while I was unconcious."Yeah-Yeah that's what happened their in safety right now." Even the thought remained at the back of my mind right now the most important thing was my survival. The safest bet was heading to my collage up ahead which might have help.
Bodies and crashed vehicles littered the streets all the occupants looked to have a horrible death or tried to run but we're caught. Looking at all of the carnage made my stomach churn. I had vomited multiple times while climbing the mountain which felt much longer than usual. Until I finally stood in front of the main gate.
