Chapter 27 - Come out and bask in the sun

Kochou Shinobu's attire was no different from usual; only a nichirin blade hung from her waist.

In that instant, Kamihara Tetsuya's mind raced, countless thoughts flashing through his head.

When he saw Kochou Shinobu's adorable little face again, he already had a guess.

The other party hadn't gathered evidence yet!

Otherwise, it wouldn't be a question, but a slash of a blade.

"Shinobu-Miss, you're quite the joker. Do demons eat these things?" Kamihara Tetsuya chuckled, gesturing for Kochou Shinobu to look at the dinner plate on the table, which still had rice grains on it.

There weren't many ways to verify whether he was a demon. It was night, so unless Kochou Shinobu cut off his head with her nichirin blade or fed him wisteria poison.

But what if he was human? Wouldn't that be an accidental killing!

Kochou Shinobu's beautiful eyes stared at the dinner plate. She had seen Kamihara Tetsuya eat normal food more than once. The Demon Slayer Corps had conducted research, and for demons, eating anything other than human flesh and blood felt similar to eating excrement.

If Kamihara Tetsuya could maintain a straight face, even smiling, while eating excrement, then in a sense, Kochou Shinobu should admire him.

"Of course, it's a joke," Kochou Shinobu said with a smile.

Kamihara Tetsuya's lips curved slightly. Sure enough, there was no evidence; she just wanted to test him!

Little rascal, even your older sister couldn't outplay me.

Go back and practice for a few more years!

Kamihara Tetsuya chuckled, "But this joke is truly excessive. If I were a demon, wouldn't those immobile patients in the ward be in danger?"

"You can try. My blade might not be unable to cut off your head," Kochou Shinobu said with a sweet smile.

The air seemed to be filled with gunpowder.

What else could Kamihara Tetsuya say? He gave an awkward smile.

"No more jokes."

Then, Kochou Shinobu said, "In the past half-month, you've already learned professional medical knowledge and can become an independent physician. So, the only thing left for me to teach you is the toxicology knowledge that can kill demons."

Kamihara Tetsuya's heart sank, and he immediately guessed what Kochou Shinobu wanted to do.

Kochou Shinobu took out a gourd, pulled out the stopper, and poured the poison onto the dinner plate. "This is wisteria poison!"

The scent emanating from these thirty to forty milliliters of dark purple liquid was dozens of times stronger than the wisteria flowers planted in the courtyard.

Kamihara Tetsuya's skin crawled, and he just wanted to escape this place immediately.

But he couldn't move.

He couldn't even show a hint of abnormality, or he would be caught red-handed by Kochou Shinobu.

Kamihara Tetsuya frowned. "Isn't this poison? Will pouring it on the dinner plate be harmful?"

Kochou Shinobu's heart was puzzled. Such a normal reaction. Could it be that she really misunderstood? She replied, "It's fine. Wisteria poison is only slightly toxic to humans, but it's a deadly poison to demons. You just need to wash the plate afterward."

"I see!" Kamihara Tetsuya nodded.

"So, this poison is also concentrated wisteria juice. You can even use it to make tea. Would you like a cup?" Kochou Shinobu asked with a sweet smile.

Kamihara Tetsuya blurted out, "No, thank you!"

Who would drink poison for fun?!

"That's a shame. The taste is actually quite good." Kochou Shinobu was very disappointed, but his refusal was reasonable. If Kamihara Tetsuya insisted he didn't like wisteria tea, she couldn't force him to drink it.

"There shouldn't be any new casualties tonight. Congratulations, Shinobu-Miss, I'll go back and rest first."

Facing the relentless Kochou Shinobu, Kamihara Tetsuya was truly struggling to cope.

More importantly, there were only three or four hours left until dawn, which was neither long nor short.

A hint of coldness flashed in the depths of Kochou Shinobu's beautiful eyes. Sure enough, he was leaving again, always before dawn.

If she only had a thirty percent certainty that Kamihara Tetsuya was a demon before, it had now increased to eighty percent!

However, the other party's actions were flawless, and she still couldn't find any evidence.

She had to stall until the sun came out no matter what.

Kamihara Tetsuya seemed determined to leave. What reason could she use to keep him?

Kochou Shinobu recalled something Kamihara Tetsuya had mentioned before. "Tetsuya-san, your professional knowledge is up to par. I formally invite you to join the Demon Slayer Corps!"

Kamihara Tetsuya, who had already reached the door, stopped in his tracks.

Kochou Shinobu took out a contract and placed it on the table. "Sign your name on this contract, and you can become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps."

Kamihara Tetsuya looked down and saw only a "Demon Slayer" stamp on it, more casual than joining a pyramid scheme. Was it real or fake?

Kochou Shinobu said, "However, I need to make it clear to you beforehand, the dangers of joining the Demon Slayer Corps..."

Kochou Shinobu was just trying to buy time, so she began to tell Kamihara Tetsuya about the dangerous battles with demons, the thousand-year history of the Demon Slayer Corps, and even trivial matters that she would spend more than ten minutes discussing.

Kamihara Tetsuya tried to speak several times, but Kochou Shinobu interrupted him. He vaguely sensed that something was wrong.

"namu amida butsu..."

A low voice sounded.

In that instant, Kamihara Tetsuya was drenched in sweat.

His gaze shifted to the Butterfly Mansion courtyard, where a two-meter-tall giant stood. He had an extremely long scar on his forehead, was completely blind, and wore a brown kasaya with the words "namu amida butsu" written on it over his Demon Slayer Corps uniform.

The kasaya swayed in the wind, revealing the weapons hanging from the giant's waist: an axe and a meteor hammer connected by a chain. Under the moonlight, a chilling glint emanated from them.

He wore a red beaded necklace around his neck, clasped his hands together, also holding a string of prayer beads, and with tears in his eyes, he said compassionately, "namu amida butsu..."

Stone Pillar · Himejima Kyoumei!

A heavy sense of oppression, like a towering mountain, pressed down on Kamihara Tetsuya's head. As a demon, he felt a strong sense of suffocation.

The strongest swordsman of the current Demon Slayer Corps!

With just one glance, Kamihara Tetsuya could tell that no matter how many Lower Moons came, they would be instantly annihilated in front of this giant!

Looking at the smiling Kochou Shinobu, Kamihara Tetsuya felt like he was going crazy. How ruthless she was, so gentle on the surface, but digging up people's ancestral graves behind their backs.

She quietly brought over the strongest Pillar of the current generation!

Gyomei Himejima should have been in the Butterfly Mansion earlier, but his presence was too well hidden for him to detect.

Fortunately, when Kochou Shinobu used wisteria poison to test him, he managed to resist the urge to act.

Otherwise, he would have been smashed to death by Gyomei Himejima's hammer!

A drop of cold sweat slid down Kamihara Tetsuya's forehead. If he continued to insist on leaving, Gyomei Himejima would definitely act and forcibly keep him there.

Kochou Shinobu continued to recount the glorious achievements of the Demon Slayer Corps, her throat dry, and her tone slowed down a bit. She knew that Kamihara Tetsuya couldn't escape!

Both sides were waiting. Kamihara Tetsuya was thinking of countermeasures, and Kochou Shinobu wanted to stall until the sun came out.

Time passed minute by minute, and a ray of sunlight pierced through the thin morning mist, shining upon the land.

"Kamihara Tetsuya-san, the weather is very nice today. How about coming out to bask in the sun?" The smile on Kochou Shinobu's small face seemed to become even sweeter.
