Most people who survived the first gate openings are severely traumatized from the incident. Millions of people lost their lives in the country, resulting in a rise of mentally unstable awakened hunters. Many resorted to crime or some became assassins. Others keep it in, but are always in the state of survival.
Yoo Joonghyuk was the first S-class hunter in Korea. He awakened during the first raids and ruthlessly sliced through the wave of monsters.
At this time, people would also be affected by these monsters, turning into "hybrids". They were mostly near these large gates and were affected by the other worldly power.
Yet, Yoo Joonghyuk did not hesitate to kill them on sight. He was then nicknamed the "king of killing." A stupid name, yet befitting to his actions. There were rumours that he was a hybrid himself without human emotion, or that he was a mad scientist. There had been several investigations behind murders associated with his name, but many were too scared to go against him. He was then declared to not be an individual meaning to harm people.
Other incidents that followed did not approve it.
"Well, if it isn't the archive thief."
A female voice called out to me. A woman with short dark hair smirked as she crossed her arms.
"Are you…Han Sooyoung?"
"Yes. And you're the thief."
"I would appreciate not being called that."
"Sure, but there's nothing wrong with saying the truth."
I gritted my teeth. Did it slip my mind how bitter her words were?
"It's nice to meet you." I muttered sarcastically.
"Hm."
She tapped my back and smiled.
"You're already on the boss' bad side, so I would tread carefully if I were you."
She waved and I sighed.
This day would be long.

Yoo Joonghyuk did not speak a word to me until the Red Gate opened a week later.
"Kim Dokja."
I jumped from hearing his voice again after a while.
"It is time."
I gulped.
Goodbye, world. It was not very nice knowing you.

The gate was much more nauseating in person. The red light that glowed blurred my vision and the wind dispelled electric sparks. I was alone. Nobody.
He really just wanted to get rid of me, huh?
I breathed heavily, rubbing my backpack to check for all my supplies.
This could have horrible weather conditions which was about a 70% chance. I would either be transported into a desert or the arctic if that were the case.
I stepped into the portal and a wave of heat hit me.
Fuck, of course it was a desert. I sighed and gulped some water down while walking in the slippery sand.
Let's see…from my research, a desert usually has a couple centipedes around or wolves.
