Ervin's POV
I stood frozen in the hallway, my heart hammering so hard I thought it might crack my ribs. I was for a while confused, and nothing else mattered anymore.
Juniper. Sweet, harmless Juniper who'd made me tea and asked about my day and treated me like I mattered. Juniper who'd worked in this house for decades, who everyone trusted, who moved through these halls like a gentle ghost.
Juniper was a creeper. A CREEEPER! How was that possible?
My hands were shaking. I pressed them against the wall, trying to steady myself, trying to make sense of what I'd just seen. Those eyes—completely black, like staring into a void. The way she'd moved, too fast, too fluid. And that feeling when she'd looked at me, like death itself had turned its attention my way.
