Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Summoning

Some enjoy sports.

"Mash, here's my killer serve!" Ritsuka shouts.

"Yes! Noble Phantasm, deploy!" Mash responds.

Some savor sweets.

"So happy… Who'd cling to regrets with this?" Roman sighs, blissful.

Some tinker with inventions.

"A batch switch! Makes management easier!" Da Vinci exclaims.

Some troll online.

"Pukyu, heh (Merlin, gotcha)." Fou snickers.

Chaldea, a serene mountaintop paradise.

But tranquility shatters with a command.

"Hear my voice! All staff, assemble!"

The king's summons gathers all. I was dozing when the vessel jolted me awake.

"Yo, Gil. Oh, Marie's here too," Ritsuka says.

"Gil called, but I've got business," Olga Marie clarifies.

"Whash dat?" Roman mumbles, mouth full.

"Swallow before speaking, idol-chaser," I snap.

"Thash harsh!"

"A mission, Director?" Mash asks.

"For Ritsuka, yes," Olga Marie says, turning serious.

"We'll perform a Heroic Spirit summoning!"

To ease Gilgamesh's burden—investment and combat—and bolster Chaldea's forces, we'll summon more heroes.

"I didn't mind, but her teary plea—'Chaldea sinks without you!'—was undeniable. Cute, but no flags with me," I tease.

"Wrong!" Olga Marie snaps.

The vessel sees her as "my treasure." Fair, since I gave her the Grail. Like a teasing older brother, but neither seems bothered, so I let it slide. Homely vibes are nice.

"Summoned Servants will stay on standby, called as needed. Ritsuka, still green, focus on Gilgamesh and Mash's orders. Use Servants for support," Olga Marie instructs.

"Hmph, promoted to main Servant? My cheat-tier difficulty's no joke!" I boast, laughing.

My job's to back that confidence. Gotta step up.

"For some reason, Gilgamesh can be used constantly. His Spirit Origin's unusually robust," Roman notes.

Maybe it's me—being a participant, affecting things? No clue, but I'm glad to be with Mash and Master.

"Nothing's impossible for me," I declare, arms crossed, the vessel exuding reliability.

"Such conviction, Senpai," Mash says.

"Scary… Will anyone lend me their strength?" Ritsuka murmurs.

"What's with the meekness?" I ask.

"Just… reality hit, and I'm nervous," she admits.

It'll be fine. Heroes will aid your path. Even this frail soul wants to help.

"Don't worry, look forward. My Master glares at the heavens!" I encourage.

"But…"

"No one's upset by being relied on. Mash and I are here. Use those lesser heroes casually," I say, patting her head.

"Don't give up before starting. That's disrespectful."

"…Okay, I'll try," Ritsuka resolves.

"Good. But no Mesopotamians, whatever the reason—I'll kill them," I warn.

"Eek!"

"I'll prepare the summoning catalyst," Olga Marie says.

"How?" Ritsuka asks.

"With my… Grail."

Closing her eyes, a Grail forms at her chest—mug-sized, now orange and white, like her soul's embodiment. She draws something from it.

"Master taught me. Your wish to live can be a catalyst," Olga Marie explains. "My Grail channels bonds to summon heroes who'll aid humanity under my wish to help."

"A bond-shaped symbol… a Craft Essence, maybe?" she muses.

"Amazing, Marie! You've mastered the Grail!" Ritsuka cheers.

"With my talent and circuits, it's only natural. Free of trivial ties, the soul's essence shines," I add.

Olga Marie found her way to contribute.

"Fou! (A 4-star ticket? Worthy of a Grail. Masters would drool!)"

"Don't overdo it; you'll tire," I caution.

"Haa… Use this to summon," Olga Marie says, handing Ritsuka the symbol.

"Call your hero. I'm counting on you," she adds.

"Yes!" Ritsuka nods.

"Summon Program, start. Heroic Spirit summoning, begin," Mash announces.

Mash's Noble Phantasm is set, and the ritual begins.

I'm excited. Meeting true heroes like Caster Cú Chulainn, hearing their voices like the king's in my dream, is always inspiring.

"Summon a maiden knight, Master!" I urge.

"Arthur?" Ritsuka asks.

"Yes! Please, gods… the drawing god!"

Praying to gods after defying them?

"I have special gods I trust—spinning and drawing gods. The drawing one's great, though overzealous. The spinning one's skilled but a liar…"

"Spirit Origin locked! Summoning!" Mash declares.

Light surges, then fades.

"Blonde? Swordsman!?" I demand.

"I'm Tamamo-no-Mae, one of the Tamamo Nine—Tamamo Cat! Nice to meet ya, Master!"

"Not Arco!" I slam the table, startling Olga Marie.

"Work, drawing god!"

"Calm down, it's just the start…" Olga Marie soothes.

"You're my Master? Get me a collar and cat food!" Tamamo Cat demands.

"So… cute!" Ritsuka squeals.

"Meow! Master likes me? Shall we tie the knot?"

"Congrats, Senpai!" Mash cheers.

"Class?" I ask.

"Berserker," Roman confirms.

Adorable. Is that tail real? Wanna fluff it. Maybe she wants canned fish.

"Next! Saber!" I demand.

"Fou (Dodged, huh?)"

"Spirit Origin: Saber!" Mash announces.

"Victory, Roman!" I shout.

"Sit, sit!"

Light fades, revealing—

"Heya! Shinsengumi Saber! Sickly, fast-footed, the mysterious—"

"Okita Souji, Shinsengumi First Unit Captain," Olga Marie states.

"Cough!? No fair revealing my True Name at a Guda event!" Okita protests.

"TAKEUCHI!" I shatter the table.

Okita Souji? Was there a woman in the Shinsengumi?

"Failing to distinguish a cash-cow heroine? Serving soba to a ramen order? Change her!" I roar.

"That's harsh! Waaah!" Okita cries.

"Cute! Hired!" Ritsuka declares.

"Next!"

"⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛!"

"Servant Heracles, Greek hero! Amazing!" Olga Marie exclaims.

"Not a meat lump…" I mutter.

"Is Ritsuka okay with this?" Roman asks.

"Buff! Hired!" Ritsuka cheers.

"Last one!"

I clench my fist. "This time… beauty's fine, but I want her!"

"Here it comes!" Mash announces.

Light converges.

"Saber!" I shout.

"Servant Archer. I answer your summons," he says.

"…"

The vessel's speechless. I'll speak.

"Hello," I say.

"Polite," he replies.

"Macho! Hired!" Ritsuka declares.

Summoning's done. Quite a lineup.

"Is this Eden? Ryugu Castle? Laputa!?" Okita exclaims.

"Best facility ever! Can I stay forever!?" Tamamo Cat cheers.

"⬛⬛⬛⬛…"

"Unbelievable… The King of Heroes, cooperative? What curse is this!?" Archer gasps.

"Die, faker," I snap.

That Archer we fought. Skilled, strong—probably B-rank strength.

"Team's set! Time to—" Olga Marie begins.

"Not over!" I interrupt, plunging my hand into a ripple, pulling a rainbow-glowing symbol.

"If she won't come, I'll drag her! My treasure, 5-star ticket!"

"Fou! (You'll enrage FGO players!)"

"Wait! We can't train that many!" Olga Marie protests.

"Silence! If it's not her, it's a bust! Come, Saber!"

I slam the rainbow symbol onto the circle. The summoning begins.

He's genuinely frustrated, so I let him be. Dreams fade, but let them scatter.

"Sorry, Marie, I worked so hard…" I apologize for her.

"Saber! Takeout, it's you!"

Rainbow light surges, then settles.

"Servant Ruler! I'm so glad to meet you!"

King of Heroes, know the end of your unfulfilled dream… This is the truth you showed.

My declaration. In Chaldea, the King of Heroes kneels.

Requests:

Jeanne: Straw bed, chapel.

Emiya: Second kitchen (homemade diner, distinct from tablecloths, for comfort food lovers).

Okita: Screen time!

Tamamo Cat: Wildness…?

Swiftly granted rooms and wishes.

The vessel… sheds a tear.

Next Time:

"AUO! Class Change! Behold the Iron Steed of the Slothful King!"

"Jeanne! An iron steed guarded by flag and shield!"

"Huh!?"

"Amazing! It's called Vimana? I can sing my heart out!?"

"I've studied all Servants," Olga Marie boasts.

"Restrain yourself, King!" Roman begs.

"Come, dragons! Your nemesis, Siegfried, is here!"

"God, save me, save me, save me!"

"Jeanne, hold it together!"

"Gil!"

"Why a Rider? Obvious!"

"I'm the king on the supreme throne!"

There's a wish, something precious. Every hero has one.

Do I have one? Will I find it?

Something precious…
