Chapter 5 - Chapter five

Demon's POV

Matt, Ryan, and I took care of the first area of the Castle—the one with the heaviest guard control.

Our plan was simple: create a distraction so the guards would abandon their posts, giving us the chance to reach the prison. Once inside, our true mission would begin: freeing three prisoners—Cain, Ian, and Scott. They were betas of my pack, and once they were back with us, the pack would finally be whole again. After decades apart, we could return to our city and reclaim what was rightfully ours.

I hadn't seen them in four years, and I didn't even know if they were alive.

Luckily, before our escape, Matt and I had been imprisoned in the same wing as them, which gave us a chance to keep some contact. We tried to reach out to our friends, but when the guards—Alpha Lycans armed with guns and fire—found them, they threatened to isolate us completely.

My brother wasn't satisfied with just locking me away. He sent my most loyal friends far from me as well. He always pretended to be gentle and pure in front of others, but I was the only one who knew the truth of his cruel, twisted nature.

"One minute," Matt whispered.

We hid behind a pillar, counting the number of guards ahead. About fifteen in total—meaning five each.

"Now!" Matt exclaimed, and we sprinted forward.

We were faster than them, dodging the bullets that tore through the air. I grabbed the first guard from behind and slammed him to the ground.

Two more rushed at me, eyes glowing, but I vanished before their strike connected and reappeared behind another group of four, tearing through them before they realized.

Within minutes, Matt and I had cleared most of the guards. He smirked, wiping blood off his blade against his shirt.

"We're still good."

I gave him a sharp grin. "Seems so."

But then a cry echoed behind us. We turned in sync, and my stomach dropped—Dylan was on the ground with two guards pinning him down.

"Dylan! No!"

We rushed to him, tearing the enemies apart. Once they were down, we helped Dylan up, dragging him to the corner.

"He's losing too much blood. That's why he isn't healing."

"We need to stop the bleeding," Matt said urgently.

Before I could respond, eight more guards charged at us.

"I'll take them! You stay with him!" Matt barked.

I shook my head. "No—they're too many!"

But before I could finish, he was already charging forward.

Damn it.

On one side, my friend was bleeding out. On the other, my brother—my best friend—was throwing himself against overwhelming odds. I had no choice.

I ripped off my jacket, tying it tightly around Dylan's wound, hoping it would hold. Then I rose to my feet and ran to join Matt in the fight.

Kale's POV

"How? How did he escape?" I demanded, trying to keep my voice steady.

"They must have paid a guard," my mother replied softly. "He hasn't been found yet."

"That's impossible. We had the Castle surrounded by more than sixty guards, and somehow he still managed to slip away." I shook my head in frustration.

Both my mother and I knew the truth: if he wasn't found, he would come for us eventually. And now that I had finally found someone who made me feel whole, I refused to let him destroy everything like he always did.

"I'm sorry," my mother murmured. "We just have to wait for the soldiers to bring him in."

"No, Mom. Waiting isn't enough. I'll send out an alert. Whoever captures him will receive a reward of fifty thousand dollars."

Her eyes narrowed. "You can't do this to your brother."

"Oh, he's done worse to me." I commented tighting my eyes at the Memory of all the bad things he did to me.

"You have to be better than him, not sink lower." My mom rebuked.

I didn't know when—or how—my brother and I became enemies. One day, it was as if we simply woke up and declared war on each other. From that moment on, every battle between us only grew worse, driving us further apart until we stood on opposite poles of the world.

Sometimes, I wished we shared a bond—a true connection, the kind twins are supposed to have. But deep down, I knew we never would.

It amazed me how someone who looked exactly like me could be so utterly different in spirit, in heart, and in soul.

He was identical to me but he was cruel, apathetic, demonic and ruthless. I wasn't sure whether the Devil existed or not but I knew that if It did Demon was the incarnation of It.

I sighed, catching the sorrow in my mother's eyes. It must have torn her apart to see us hating each other this way.

But it wasn't her fault.

It was simply how things were.

"I have to protect myself. I have to protect my family. And if that means hunting him down, then so be it. We're done talking about this."

I couldn't bear to look at her face

it hurt too much. She seemed as though she would never give up on my brother, always clinging to the hope that he might change.

Was that love… or desperation?

The doorbell rang, breaking the tension. A smile tugged at my lips.

"That must be Evelyn."
