Matteo's office occupied the top floor of the Romano Holdings tower, all glass and steel with a view that stretched across Rome like a kingdom laid at his feet.
But he barely noticed it anymore.
The view was just background noise to the endless stream of reports, contracts, and decisions that demanded his attention.
The morning meeting had run long—acquisitions in Eastern Europe, logistics issues in the shipping division, a supplier dispute that required delicate handling.
By the time Matteo returned to his office, it was past noon and his assistant Bianca was waiting with another stack of documents.
"The Ricci contract needs your signature," she said, setting the folder on his desk with practiced efficiency. "Legal approved all the terms. And the Tokyo investors want to reschedule their call—something about time zones."
"Fine. Schedule it for next week." Matteo signed without looking up, already moving to the next item. "What else?"
