Chapter 54 - 54

"Unfortunately, the subsequent data is severely damaged and cannot be recovered."

In front of the control console, hearing Tony's words, Howard leaned slightly forward and commanded.

"Search Phineas Horton."

As Howard finished speaking, a large amount of data appeared on the screen before his eyes.

"Data related to Phineas Horton has been found, some of which is classified and restricted by The Military."

"Run decryption."

"Understood."

Inside the secret base, the decryption program began to run, and a lively song with a bright prelude simultaneously started playing.

"Dashing through the snow In a one-horse open sleigh

O'er the fields we go Laughing all the way

Bells on bob-tails ring Making spirits bright

Oh what fun it is to ride and sing

A sleighing song tonight Oh jingle bells jingle bells

..."

The cheerful melody rang out within the Avengers' gloomy underground base, creating a strange sense of absurdity.

"Tony, turn off the music."

Amidst the saxophone music, Howard spoke, stopping it.

Inside the base, the cheerful song abruptly ceased.

Tony said with a flippant tone.

"I thought you'd like this song. Maybe next time I can consider playing something more fitting for your era."

As Tony grumbled to Howard, the decryption program on the control console's screen was nearing its end.

"Decryption successful."

A series of classified document files were decrypted and displayed before Howard's eyes.

From the information within these internal classified Military documents, it could be seen that for a period after the Synthezoid experiment, Dr. Phineas Horton had secretly served The Military. During this process, Dr. Phineas Horton and his experimental partners at the time discovered a certain unknown type of subatomic particles, which they then began to research in depth.

Dr. Phineas Horton and his team invested immense effort into their research on these subatomic particles.

However, The Military at the time didn't seem to buy into it; they halted Dr. Phineas Horton's subatomic particles experiment project and forced them to develop more powerful combat weapons for the army of that era.

Because of this, Dr. Phineas Horton had to disband his experimental team, and his experimental partners at the time also left him after a fierce argument.

Afterward, Dr. Phineas Horton focused on The Military's biochemical research and development, including transplanting Human Torch's powers onto soldiers, and the 'Project Rebirth' spearheaded by biochemical experiments. However, before Dr. Phineas Horton could complete this experimental objective, news of defeat came from the front line: Captain America's Invaders Squad failed in combat, and he himself sacrificed his life on the battlefield.

The deaths of the Invaders Squad, along with the death of British Prime Minister Churchill, had a huge impact on the morale of the Allied Military at the time, causing multiple experiments, including those of Dr. Phineas Horton, to be suspended.

Standing before the control console, Howard finished reading all the decrypted classified information.

The mechanical eye in Howard's eye socket began to flicker with a faint blue light: "Open the 'Project Rebirth' file data."

"Access denied."

However, Tony's answer somewhat surprised him.

Hearing Tony's refusal of access, the mechanical eye in Howard's eye socket automatically contracted: "What's going on? Hasn't everything been fully decrypted?"

"Files related to 'Project Rebirth' are classified documents of a restricted access level. According to intelligence shown internally by The Military, they were sealed and transferred out years ago."

"Whose orders?"

"General Johann Schmidt, who was then the Commander of German Forces in America."

...

Phineas Horton, Human Torch?

Inside his temporary residence, Colin retracted his Super Hearing ability, while thoughtfully pondering.

With the aid of Super Brainpower, he was now essentially able to process the information gathered by Super Hearing normally, no longer affected by its side effects.

However, Colin fell into deep thought regarding the information he had heard.

If he remembered correctly, the World Daily News in the Main World had once published a Superhero Comic titled Flameman, in which the design of Flameman seemed to bear a striking resemblance to the Human Torch mentioned by Howard and Tony.

So, was all of this merely a coincidence, or...?

The relationship between the Main World and the Anti-World had always been a key focus for Colin, and the current appearance of Human Torch seemed to provide him with a clue.

Perhaps, through the intelligence on Human Torch, he could find a connection between the two worlds.

But clearly, this wouldn't be simple.

Unless he could find a suitable reason to participate in the Dark Avengers' actions without arousing suspicion from Howard and the others.

...

A turning point often appears unexpectedly.

That afternoon, on the base's training ground, Colin deftly dodged Frank's bullets.

In less than an hour, he had integrated the combat techniques taught by the other party into actual practice.

"Alright."

Stopping his attack, Frank put away the dagger he had pointed at Colin's eyes.

Frank looked at Colin before him, his expression unreadable, but his heart utterly shocked.

It was hard to imagine that just a few days ago, the other party had been a complete novice who knew nothing.

In just a few days, Frank had personally witnessed Colin transform from an ignorant layman into a combat master.

"You're even more talented than I expected. Originally, I'd prepared a few assassination missions to heighten your awareness of danger, but it seems they're clearly no longer necessary."

Colin's progress in combat had disrupted Frank's plans.

"Assassination missions! Are you sure you're teaching me combat?"

Hearing Frank casually mention assassination plans in such an understated tone, Colin's expression was somewhat speechless.

At the same time, he lowered his head, his gaze sweeping over the Black Iron Mark on the back of his hand, which others couldn't see.

[Powers – Super Brainpower (Black Iron)]

[Powers Description: Superman possesses incredible intelligence and astonishing computational learning ability, enabling him to easily master difficult languages and skills, and handle complex tasks.]

Although the Black Iron-tier Super Brainpower couldn't help Colin become omnipotent like Superman, instantly learning an alien language, it was still enough to help him learn the combat techniques taught by The Punisher during practical training, adapting as he fought, and internalizing these techniques in a short time.
