"She's here" I watch as Jake's eyes lit up and he drops his empty glass of watermelon juice and gets up facing the direction behind me "Hi mom he smiles spreading his arms" I turn around and my eyes widening a little, I had seen Mrs. Martins in movies and pictures but nothing compared to the way she was in person, much like Jake in the Face with more aura and power, she smelled like apricots and sandal wood, an odd but inviting combo, she looked like she could over power you with one flick of her hands, no wonder she was into women I'm sure... "And you are?" her question brings me out of my illicit thoughts. I clear my throat to answer her before she cut me off again bursting out laughing "Seriously you looked wrecked with nerves kiddo, I'm just joking come on" she grabs me and Jake on both her sides and puts a hand over our necks and walks straight to our room. The talk was long mostly with Jake burning red and grinning from ear to ear as his mom asks him and me questions then proceeds to give us gifts, she bought, I take off my jacket as the warmer gets unbearable. Jake drops down his yogurt cup complaining about a burning sensation in his chest, a spike of worry in his mom's face shows before she masks it and gestures him to the bathroom leaving me in the room for a couple of minutes, I was grateful for the time they needed at-least some privacy and Jake longed so much for his mom's care I wouldn't be surprised if he was faking it.
Shortly after his mom walks in not a sight of Jake leaving me a little tense as I try to go to see him but she stops me. "Don't worry honey he just needed to answer to the call o' nature" her subtle southern accent creeping in as she smiles leading me back to my chair.
I held my hands nervously it wasn't too long for a person to shit, but it certainly felt long and with the way Mrs. Martins stared me down I swore I could have peed myself, he subtle smiles and accessing my clothes and appearance in the most undeniable way was making me hope she wouldn't cave and hate me for the slightest mistake. "So, my son's got taste?" she says as she skooches closer to the edge of the bed across me. "Listen darling I'm gonna whisper this to you just in case he's eaves dropping" I smile my feet cold hoping it wouldn't be like those soap opera's where she pays me or threatens me to leave her son alone, she did seem like she could be a mafia boss, the hot kind lol . "You're hot and I can tell he likes you very much" she whispers into my ear I blink my cheeks beet red was not expecting that at all "Thanks" I say in a bubble as my throat itched with saliva, she smiles holding my hand "have you guys had sex yet?" my eyes pop open my face now hot with embarrassment, just immediately, the bathroom door opens cutting us out of our discussion I sighed relieved she would stop asking now, I look towards Jake and my hand fall as Mrs Martins let go of them, confusion and worry on my face as I watch Jake observing him. "What happened" I watch him looking so different 'What happened' is all I could think, tears well up in my eyes as I observe not blinking, his shirt full of blood and his mouth traces of blood trailing down to his chest, seeming like he coughed up that much blood, "get some help" Mrs. Martins shouted bringing me out of my trance as she rushed towards him, he was just standing there not saying anything his eyes white a total terrifying sight. I rushed to the door to open it, I didn't have time to think I have to save him is all I thought, as I turned the door knob I heard Mrs. Martins scream, I turn around and see her straining holding his shirt her eyes terrified with shock, I couldn't see anything just half her face and she seemed to not say anything when I asked what happened, as I got closer I wished the ground would open up and swallow me I couldn't believe what I was seeing, Jake had his mouth lodged in his mother's scalp taking pulse bites as blood gushed out and her eyes lost focus, she looked like she was in immense pain before she mouthed "run" and lost consciousness, I froze just watching as he continued not caring if was there or not. Am I dreaming? Yes… this must be another nightmare! Yeah, I'm dreaming I just stood there my legs and body numb the only thing I could feel was the burning sensation in my eyes from not being able to close them. My vision blurred as tears welled in them, was this the end for me? I lost track of time, was this… seconds? Minutes?... I had no idea what was going on I closed my eyes, please run, I need to Run. Before I could think of moving my legs, I felt a strong force pull me out of the door of the room and slammed it shut, I had hoped I was already dead and it was my angel of death carrying me away. I didn't know how my legs were moving so I opened my eyes and got immediately welcomed to the bizarre sight of the hotel trashed like hay wire, everywhere I looked blood flesh, arms legs I was convinced I was just dreaming until I locked eyes with a one eyed waiter, who was now rushing towards me with determination I shut my eyes no knowing what to do, my legs still moving, I opened them again and noticed the waiter had gone, I looked back and saw it was feasting on an elderly woman I cringed looking forward to a voice that was familiar "don't look them in the eyes, keep your head down" It was milo, what kind of dream was this?
I kept running following his guidance and keeping my head down. Soon we got outside and all I could do was pant and cough, I wouldn't believe I would make it out, all other sounds muffled as I looked at my hands, blood and flesh splattered all over them and the pungent smell or iron making me gag as all I could hear were bones cracking all over again. I hadn't known I had stopped breathing and when I tried to again, I couldn't control it. Am I hyperventilating? I couldn't think, someone save me! Is all I could think I chocked on my own saliva as I tried to stay calm but it wasn't working. Before I knew I felt a warm covering on my back and shoulders, I felt my shivering reduce "breathe Rei I already shut the gates we're safe for now" I instinctively got calmer knowing I was out of that hell, I looked at my surroundings and this was the drive way where we just got out from and I saw Rei opening our car, I remembered Jake just a few hours when we got here, he was fine what happened? Snapping out of my thoughts I shot a spiteful look at Milo "what are you doing here?" he shrugged taking me by the hand "Ill explain later he dragged me, a sound of clicking bottles startle me as I halt stopping him from taking me. "I'm not going anywhere with you" he rolled his eyes "would you rather stay here and wait for your boyfriend to come eat you?" I scoffed amazed by his bluntness and unashamed manner of trying to make a joke of this situation which was incredible very shocking for me but apparently, he didn't care. Before I could protest, he dragged me again like a kid and shoved me into the passenger's seat. Closing the door shut on me he races to the driver's seat and sets his bag down beside me before zooming off. I watched his face confusion set on mine wondering how on earth he swooped in and saved the day like that, "You can have some milk in that bag, you look like you need it" I cringed the thought of milk or any liquid in my throat right after such a scene, would be the last thing I need plus I reek of blood. "No thanks" I rolled my eyes in response. He fished out the bottle and handed it to me "open it" I did, afraid he might crash us if I didn't, and he started to drink it. Watching him drinking like a thirsty beggar awoke my parched throat and I shamelessly took the second bottle gobbling it down, also stealing some sweets into my pocket. "So are you going to explain now" I say trying to mask my embarrassment. A glint of smirk in his voice as he spoke "sure I stalked you and your boyfriend when I saw you both entering the hotel, I was just looking out for you so you're welcome" what the fuck! "You what?" I scoffed "first I never said thankyou and never will, second how could you even say that to me what guts you have, you're so lucky Ja-" I pause folding my lips and rubbing my hands vigorously on my eyes. What am I doing I should be looking for how I can help him if he is still okay, its not even worth fighting with this idiot, I just need to get to my mom. "You know what? there's no point doing this with you, just take me home and we can pretend this never happened". He smiled which was getting on my nerves how can he be so calm, "Sure thing Prince Rei" I rolled my eyes not wanting to get involved in his web, since that is all, he knew to do, looking out the window I got confused with my thoughts and distracted by the city almost every building lit with fire. "what is going on" Milo increases the radio that draws my attention, dawn to dusk, emergencies arise from homes to cities a rising maniac attack from man to man, authorities have announced a global announcement to stay away from loaded crowds as it seems to be a massive outburst or colony wars some speculations… my phone buzzes in my hands as I lower the volume of the car radio "it's my mom" I pick up the call outing it on speaker, my hands shaking so much I might not be able to hold it on my ear "Rei are you guys okay have you heard the news, I've been calling Jake no response, I hope everything is okay?," I pause tears welling up the severity that this might not be a dream. what do I say? How can I tell her that Jake might be in the worst place ever and I couldn't help him. "Hey ma'am its Milo, Jake got caught in an attack in the hotel, him and his mom had a strange fight, I helped Rei out, the hotel was in complete chaos and were out now, we're currently on our way to your home to drop Rei" I look at him with complete shock, he saved me once again. "Oh no oh!" tears streaming down my face as I hear my mom cry, "It's okay mom don't worry we'll figure this out" I hear her pause then say "It's okay sweetie, I'm really sorry this happened to you, listen I want you to turn around and go with Milo now, we are not at the house me and your sister, we are at a military base some of them came over to help us and the neighbors, so I need you both and Milo's grandma to go there, okay listen this is the address write it down now ?" I frown feeling very uncomfortable with how she sounded so scared and shaky, also the environment was quiet I was sure I would have heard Chelly in the background somehow. I Shook my head writing down the instructions from her in Jakes notepad that was in the dashboard pocket in front of me. "Did you get it?" my mom's voice echoed from the phone "Yes thanks" I nodded "Okay sweetie my phone will be off now because the officers will be taking them, just forget about me and focus on getting there okay?" she cut the call before I could say anything. "Is she okay?" Milo asked his brows frowning and his eyes never leaving the road "Yeah I'm sure she is just worried" I lied, I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what to do except follow her rules I didn't want to end up losing any more than I already have.
