Chapter 213: Dominator, Moon Fiend's Vast Fortune
Kaito Shirogane stood on the water. The muscles of his submerged lower body were completely relaxed, yet his center of gravity was controlled in such a way that he floated bizarrely on the surface, as if standing in the sea.
This strange posture was a sign that Kaito's martial arts were entering an advanced realm. But Moon Fiend, or rather, Lee Chae-rin, was in no state to appreciate such details.
The only plan she could think of to make this beast spare her was to do what she had once wanted to do to him: enter a slave contract. Only... she would be the slave.
The word [Slave] was a red-hot brand on her heart. The pain, unwillingness, humiliation, and anger were so intense they actually cleared her mind for a brief moment.
"You're saying... you want to be my dog?"
Kaito Shirogane walked up to her. The monster, lying defeated on the sea, now looked almost fragile. Kaito's fingers gathered a golden ki, and he pressed it against her abdomen.
Pff~
The smell of ki boring through flesh wasn't much better than a laser burning pork. The stench of living tissue being instantly cauterized would make a normal person vomit. Kaito thrust his fingers into the wound.
The act wasn't meant to kill; it was pure humiliation.
Lee Chae-rin took a deep breath. Her monstrous body couldn't show her expression, and she was almost glad he couldn't see her real face.
Even though Kaito was intentionally insulting her, she had to accept.
She wanted to live. She couldn't bear to abandon everything she had.
"Yes. I... will give you everything. Surely... that's more valuable than killing me."
Kaito Shirogane raised an eyebrow. Dominating a skilled Reincarnator was, naturally, far more profitable than killing them.
The [Crimson Drop Card] allowed a victor to get some loot, but the amount of resources and [Information] a Reincarnator consumed to grow... how could one or two draws ever cover that?
Whether you chose to draw abilities, expertise, items, or currency, you were guaranteed to lose out on the rest.
The stronger the Reincarnator, the higher the "commission" the Nexus took.
Therefore, the only way to get 100% of a veteran's assets was to enslave them, using the Nexus's special [Contracts].
Kaito had, in fact, been planning to squeeze Moon Fiend dry and then kill her. But that only worked on weak-willed Reincarnators.
A veteran would know his intent. A killer like Moon Fiend, especially.
She wouldn't just hand over her resources, and she would scrutinize the [Contract] for any loopholes that would let him kill her and take her things.
"Tsk. You'll really do anything to survive."
Kaito Shirogane pulled his fingers out, watching the flesh writhe. This, he thought, was the true face of a Reincarnator.
Most Reincarnators fit the worldly definition of a "villain." They were dropped into worlds, used their foreknowledge, and unleashed their malice and destruction on the native characters.
But when they met an unbeatable foe, they had none of the dignity of those warlords or villains. They would never consider "death before dishonor."
As long as they could get back to the Nexus, there was always a chance for a comeback.
They were a swarm of dimension-hopping locusts, amoral and cowardly, unleashed by the Nexus.
Lee Chae-rin heard the thick contempt in his voice, but it only confirmed her idea was working. This was the greatest value she could offer.
This Mercenary Tao wasn't just a beast; he was a greedy one. If there was a way to devour her completely, he wouldn't settle for the gacha-pull of a drop card.
"Yes. I'll do anything to live."
"Mercenary Tao... no... Kaito Shirogane. If you dominate me, you will get resources beyond your imagination. Even in the real world, you can have anything. That's something that dog, Inspector Sato, can never give you!"
Moon Fiend tilted her head back, her voice returning to its female timbre.
Kaito Shirogane's memory was excellent. His expression was calm. He wasn't flustered that she knew his real name. He was in complete control. [Setsuna] was off cooldown; he could kill the weakened Moon Fiend at any time.
And now... he remembered who she was.
[You have accepted Reincarnator QO60833805's Servitude Contract.]
[You have gained Domination over QO60833805 (Moon Fiend). You may use the Nexus to place restrictions on her and freely access her resources.]
[Servitude Contract details fall under Article 6. You may review and modify restrictions at any time.]
"Ha. I never thought the eldest daughter of the Samwol Group would be a Reincarnator... and, well... end up like this."
Lee Chae-rin, seeing the contract was complete, knew she wouldn't be killed. She relaxed, and her mind instantly fogged over again. Her Spirit stat, even buffed by gear, was only 23. Without [Efficacy], her base conversion rate was too low to resist the God Hand's corruption.
Roar!
Her instincts took over. Moon Fiend roared, flipped, and tore at Kaito.
But the moment her claws were a palm's-width away, her body froze, her blood vessels bursting.
Kaito looked at his panel.
The [Servitude Contract] was the harshest of them all. Normally, it cost the master a D-Grade Singularity plus a ton of DP, scaled to the slave's power.
Kaito hadn't paid a thing, because Moon Fiend had drafted and paid for it herself.
This had to be one of the few cases in the Nexus of someone paying to become another's slave.
The master could see the slave's mission progress and, more importantly, the slave could not access their own resources without permission. The master, however, could take whatever they wanted.
The master also had absolute authority. The slave could not attack the master. Violation was met with a default "Heavy Injury" punishment, which the master could change to "Light Injury," "Near-Death," or "Death."
Kaito marveled at the rules.
Maybe the Nexus... encourages 'farming' like this.
This Nexus was darker than any "infinite world" story he'd ever read. It was purely "winner-take-all."
Losers were either enslaved or killed, their resources completely squeezed out.
The strong get stronger, the weak get weaker.
Kaito grabbed Moon Fiend by the neck and, walking on the water, began to drag her back, browsing her inventory as he went.
Her inventory was much larger than his—a perk of her "3-Star Reincarnator" rating. Aside from two slots for real-world clothes, every other slot was full.
There were quite a few purple items, but the most precious was a badge.
[Stigma: ?]
[Quality: Purple - High] (May change upon Appraisal)
[Description: The mark of a Child of God from the 'A Certain Magical Index' derivative world. It has been stripped by a mysterious power, its properties hidden.]
[Requirement: Magic Expertise > Lv7, Energy > 30, Constitution > 30]
[Effect: Grants 'Saint' constitution.]
When Kaito took it out, the purple glow was like a torch, its light tinting the seawater.
This was, with the exception of the [King's Left Arm], the rarest item he had ever seen.
Next was a book.
[Imperial Ultimate Classic]
[Quality: ?]
[Description: A wondrous book from the 'Ocean Tiger' world. Only those of great wisdom can comprehend its secrets.]
[Requirement: None]
[Effect: None]
Kaito looked at it. He'd never seen an item with [None] for both requirement and effect. But the fact the Nexus recognized it meant it was real. In the Ocean Tiger world, this book let one comprehend various martial arts. Did that mean a Reincarnator had to figure it out themselves?
He put it in his own bag. He was about to pull out the third item, a crystal, when he heard a sound.
Kaito looked up and saw Garp in the air.
He stopped, dragging the immobile Moon Fiend, and gave Garp that fake smile.
"Yo, Vice Admiral Garp! I've re-captured the fugitive."
Garp frowned. He had been drunk, but at his level, sobering up was as simple as controlling his metabolism.
He had heard Gion say this Mercenary Tao was in pursuit. He'd expected to find that Tao had killed both monsters, and the Navy wouldn't have punished him for it.
Garp could clearly sense the wild killing intent, even now, rolling off Kaito like a wave.
Behind that smile, he was fighting to hold it back.
But... he hadn't killed this one. He had captured it.
Garp grinned and turned.
"Mercenary Tao, right? Follow me!"
He kicked off with [Moonwalk]. Kaito's mind raced. He, too, stomped, the sea exploding as he launched into the sky, dragging the giant Moon Fiend with him.
