Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 Defying Heaven! (Part Two)

In Kronos's hand, he gripped tightly a gigantic scythe. This was a supreme divine tool that the Mother of All, Gaia, had crafted with care by using the primordial essence of matter and mixing in the power of darkness and night—an artifact capable of cleaving all "existence."

Moreover, the Mother Goddess bestowed upon him a new law of the earth, one intimately tied to his authority over harvest—"reaping."

He was already the god of creation, growth, and harvest; now he possessed the crucial "reaping" as well!

This endowed him with the twin powers of ending and beginning.

Not only that, but the Sky-Father Uranus was at this moment bound by the laws employed by many great gods.

Whereas upon Kronos there rested the opposite kind of augmentation: many positive blessings and powers granted by his elder brothers and sisters—those closest comrades-in-arms.

His courage grew ever more generous and fierce, his thoughts crystal clear, his wisdom in full surge, his divine body strong and forceful, his movements swift and deft.

Looking upon Heaven and Earth, still entwined at that very moment, Kronos's hand that held the great scythe trembled slightly.

It was a trembling born of fear at raising a hand against the supreme Sky-Father, intertwined with a longing for a new age.

Yet from fear was born courage, and within him there rose, with boundless excitement, a grand thought.

He was ending an era, even as he was opening a new one!

Kronos, without hesitation, swung the great "scythe" that could sunder all things.

A blade of darkness, unfathomably deep, like lightning that tore the cosmos, instantly shattered the universe's gloom.

With an irresistible force it cut apart Heaven and Earth, which had seemed forever fused together.

Amid a world-shaking roar and convulsion, like the tearing of the universe's embryonic membrane, Heaven and Earth were completely parted!

To open the heavens and cleave the earth.

He had done it—he had accomplished the feat of opening heaven and splitting earth!

With a Titan's body, he completed a Creator God's great work!

As Heaven and Earth split, the Hecatoncheires (the Hundred-Handed Giants) and the Cyclopes, long since secretly released from Tartarus by the Lady of Night, Nyx, leapt up from the darkness beneath the earth!

The three colossal Cyclopes now began to wield the authority they inherited from the Sky-Father; they called the winds and summoned the rains; their vast bodies churned the clouds and gathered dark masses to veil the entire firmament.

Gales howled across the world; the thunderous crashes of endless dark clouds colliding muffled the heavens, as if doomsday had come.

Heaven took on form.

Henceforth, Heaven was no longer a chaos confused with the earth.

The three even greater Hundred-Handed Giants raised their hundred heaven-bracing and sea-bridging arms and, with peerless might, thrust the storm clouds upward, pushing the sky away from the earth to separate them farther still!

They stood upon the earth, and the great Mother of All, Gaia, now erupted with all her power, granting them boundless, fearsome strength, infinite vigor, to oppose the invincible Sky-Father.

Under the Mother Goddess's utmost repulsion and obstruction, this limitless, terrifying power truly pushed the heaven up—so that the firmament and the earth were utterly parted, and the world's space was widened.

At the same time, the Mother Goddess Gaia drew in the earth and willingly sank downward, pulling away from heaven and consolidating the separation.

At this moment the Sky-Father Uranus—the supreme lord of the cosmos, the sovereign God-King—had not even fully reacted before he was already about to lose everything.

That lofty, overbearing arrogance was ruthlessly torn apart by the courage of rebellion.

At the instant Heaven and Earth split, the Night Goddess Nyx led the boundless night that had already enshrouded the cosmos and merged into the heavens.

She entangled the heavens; in their depths, her profound awareness began to seek the root from which the light of spirituality had been born.

Love and Desire—Eros.

Once Night had fully entwined the firmament, Kronos, without hesitation, swung the gigantic black scythe a second time.

With perfect coordination from Night, the sky was torn!

Heaven,

the supreme sovereign of the cosmos,

bled!

He had cleaved the heavens!

This unprecedented, mighty feat—something even gods dared not imagine.

Endless divine blood, mixed with the Sky-Father's vast spirituality, drifted down like golden rain, nourishing every inch of the cosmos.

And there was the most important thing of all—"love and desire."

The very source from which spirituality was born.

By virtue of the authority of reaping and the great divine power of the scythe, Kronos harvested from the Sky-Father's body the overgrown, tumor-like "love and desire," stripping it from the root of spirituality.

This was the Eros that the Mother of Matter, Gaia, had swallowed in ages past—the primordial source of love and desire.

Back then, with the birth of the light of spirit, that love and desire entered the body of the Sky-Father Uranus and became the root of all his desires.

Primordial spirituality cannot be destroyed utterly—unless all the gods perish with the Sky-Father and the cosmos returns to nothingness.

But love and desire can be separated out. When spirituality is bereft of love and desire, then it has no preferences, no obsession, no craving.

A heaven without preference is heaven in truth.

That pure and selfless Heavenly Way.

No matter how mighty a cruel dictator may be, he is destined to be overthrown—this is the inevitable choice of intelligent life!

Intelligent life will never allow a cruel and wanton dictator to rule the world, for a dictator tramples the primal law of life—survival and freedom.

In the final instant, the Sky-Father Uranus still had the power to annihilate all the gods' spirituality—yet he did not do so.

Because there was no meaning in it.

So long as the essence of spirituality remained, the laws of the cosmos would, sooner or later, bring forth new spirit, new intelligent life, in endless cycles.

Thus the great Sky-Father Uranus bestowed upon all things in the cosmos a final, true grace.

He scattered limitless spirituality across the universe like the sowing of countless seeds of hope.

From that moment, everything in the cosmos, so long as chance was sufficient and accumulation enough, could become truly intelligent life—could possess self-awareness.

And because the Sky-Lord no longer had preferences—

From then on, the spiritual self, free will, belonged to all beings!

All intelligent life in the universe possessed a free self-awareness!

No one, ever again, could control spirituality!

This was the Sky-Father Uranus's ultimate freedom bestowed upon all beings!

At the same time, it was also Uranus's final curse upon those who betrayed him—a subtle and profound revenge.

The Sky-Father lastly granted the multitudes selfhood and freedom, and scattered the seeds of spirit across the universe.

From then on, without the mediation of the Sky-Father, any "existence" could possess spirit and a self; the light of wisdom would blaze brilliantly throughout the universe.

This destined the world to grow ever more flourishing, with life-forms increasingly diverse.

But it also meant the primordial gods' authority would be ever more dispersed, diluted by the ceaselessly arising new spiritualities.

And if the primordial gods blocked the growth of spirit and prevented it from partitioning their authority, then the movement of the world would stall, the development of the cosmos would deadlock, and the world would be slowly "caught" and devoured by Tartarus—and all would return to "nothing."

Complete ending—or gradual partition.

Between these two choices, the gods had to pick one path; there was no third way.

Either embrace a decaying end, or evolve and develop without cease—while being replaced by later newborn existences more advanced, wiser, and stronger.

This—this was Uranus's true curse!

It would eternally bedevil every god in power!

This is what is meant by: those who betray him will be slain by their own descendants, who will usurp their power.

As embodiments of primordial law, so long as the cosmos continues to evolve, all newborn existences count as their descendants.

This was the Sky-Father Uranus's final grace to the cosmos—and his most far-reaching revenge.

Growing ever farther from the earth, and now bereft of personal liking, Heaven could no longer rouse interest in anything and willingly sank into the deepest slumber.

He only instinctively drew away from the earth; though he felt nothing for anything, the Great Mother Gaia was the sole exception.

The Mother Goddess had broken his heart.
