Midnight Confessions( Chapter 45)
(Nova POV)
The banquet hall felt like it was breathing.
The music had softened to a low, intimate hum—violins and piano weaving together in the background, the kind of melody that made you feel like the night could stretch forever. Couples swayed on the dance floor, gowns swirling, laughter floating like bubbles. But the air had changed. Heavier. Charged.
I stood near the edge of the room, back against a marble pillar, trying to disappear into the shadows. My heart hadn't stopped racing since Elara's words at the dessert table. "Enjoy the party. While it lasts." They echoed in my head, soft and venomous, like a promise she intended to keep.
Tessa had gone to get us more drinks—something stronger than champagne this time. I was alone.
For the first time all night, I let myself look for him.
Damien.
