Chapter 44 - Chapter 44

The next day, Tanaka Masao woke up early.

It was Monday, and he needed to arrive at school in time for morning exercises.

While he was eating breakfast, Jahy came out of the bathroom in slippers, yawning.

Tanaka Masao was a little surprised at the way she walked.

Yesterday, he had taught Jahy a harsh lesson she wouldn't forget, yet now she looked as if nothing had happened.

"Good morning."

Jahy lifted her head and glanced at him.

Her body tensed instinctively—the events of last night had clearly left their mark on her.

The reason she seemed fine now was partly because she was a demon. Even without her power, her physique was much stronger than that of an ordinary person.

She also had the blessing of magic, which allowed her to heal quickly.

The cost, however, was that the magic energy stored in her stone had been consumed again.

Under the pressure of pain, Jahy reviewed the reasons for her failure.

She had been too impatient.

She should have taken more time to observe Tanaka Masao instead of acting rashly.

Even so, she hadn't gained nothing.

Through last night's attempt, she had learned something about his armor.

It was formed of countless tiny particles that flowed like liquid and could change shape freely.

This discovery filled her with envy.

If the armor had been fixed in shape, she would never be able to wear it—her body was too different from Tanaka Masao's. But since it could transform at will, it could adapt perfectly to her.

Battle plan: First, learn more about Tanaka Masao's background. Ideally, I'll make him an obedient servant.

Second, claim his armor.

Worst case, I'll have him help me collect more magic stones.

Though she thought of many things, in reality only a few seconds had passed.

In response to his greeting, she smiled faintly.

"Good morning."

Hearing Jahy's polite reply, Tanaka Masao was momentarily stunned.

So polite? That means last night's lesson worked.

He nodded at her.

"Come eat breakfast. Mom will take you to register your personal information later."

Jahy sat down, picked up a sandwich, and asked curiously,

"What about you? Why are you up so early? Aren't you coming with us?"

"I'm not going with you. I have school."

"Human school?"

Her curiosity deepened. "What do you study there?"

"History, foreign languages, mathematics…"

At this, Jahy wrinkled her nose in disgust.

"You don't learn how to fight or strengthen yourselves? In the demon world, we study magic, potions, alchemy, and the like."

"We have that too, but not everyone can study weapons and equipment. If everyone could, society would fall into chaos.

For example, a top gunner on the Japanese server once created a weapon and successfully assassinated the Prime Minister."

That caught Jahy's attention.

"He succeeded in assassinating the Prime Minister?"

She shook her head with a mocking smile.

"Kukuku~ So not only was the Prime Minister weak, but his guards were useless as well.

As the second-in-command of the demon world, I've faced countless assassinations, yet with my overwhelming power, I dealt with them all easily."

The two talked for a while before Tanaka Masao finished breakfast and got ready to leave for school.

Before walking out, he reminded her,

"Jahy, don't cause trouble."

"What do you mean by trouble?" Jahy frowned, clearly displeased. "Why do you treat me like some reckless child?"

Tanaka Masao almost replied because you are one, but decided to hold his tongue to keep her calm.

On the playground of Sobu High School, Tanaka Masao spotted a familiar figure and walked over.

"Good morning, Yukinoshita-san."

Yukinoshita Yukino gave a small nod.

"Good morning. Very punctual. It seems the holiday didn't make you slack off."

Tanaka Masao puffed his chest out with pride.

"Of course. Don't underestimate my perseverance."

"Then let's begin."

"So soon? We haven't seen each other for a few days—shouldn't we at least talk about our holiday lives first?"

Yukinoshita gave him a flat look.

"I'm not interested in your holiday life. As for mine…"

She glanced at him knowingly, seeing his curiosity rise.

A sly smile tugged at her lips. "I don't want to talk about it either."

"Eh? Why not?"

Tanaka Masao had been eager to know how she spent her vacation, but his hopes were dashed.

"Stop wasting time and start. Or are you just stalling?"

"Fine, fine. I'll start."

He began running laps around the playground.

Two days of rest had cleared away the fatigue from a week of training.

The results showed—he was running faster and lasting longer.

After more than a thousand meters, his pace finally slowed.

Yukinoshita watched with satisfaction.

With his stamina improving, he could push his training further, slimming down more quickly and entering a healthy cycle.

An hour later, Tanaka Masao finished his run, panting hard.

He walked over to Yukinoshita. "Yukinoshita, have I gotten stronger?"

Arms crossed, she nodded calmly.

"Yes, a little stronger."

Before he could celebrate, she added,

"But you're still far from average. So, Tanaka-kun, please keep working hard to become a normal person."

"Hey, hey, why are you saying I'm not normal?"

Her voice stayed calm.

"By the world's recognized human weight standard, you're indeed outside the normal range."

Tanaka Masao sighed. "When you put it that way… you're right."

Seeing his deflated look gave Yukinoshita a faint sense of satisfaction.

"Come on, it's time for class."

"Got it."
