Chapter 7 - Episode 7: The Library of Silence

🌊 Salt in the Wind Episode 7: The Library of Silence

The KoƂobrzeg Public Library was quiet, its stone façade weathered by time. Ren stood outside, camera bag slung over his shoulder, heart thudding. Aleksy had told him the library held archives from the war—records, letters, fragments of lives lost and found.

Inside, the air was cool and smelled of old paper. A librarian with silver glasses greeted him with a nod. "Looking for something specific?"

Ren hesitated. "Records from the 1940s. Anything on Aleksander ZieliƄski."

She raised an eyebrow. "That name's been whispered lately."

Ren blinked. "You've heard?"

She nodded. "This town remembers more than it admits."

She led him to a back room, where shelves sagged under the weight of forgotten stories. Ren ran his fingers along the spines, searching. He found a box labeled ZieliƄski Family and opened it slowly.

Inside were letters, school records, and a small notebook. Ren flipped through it—Aleksander's handwriting, neat and slanted.

"The sea is not cruel. It's honest. It takes what it must."

Ren sat on the floor, reading. The entries were poetic, filled with longing. Mentions of a boy with dark eyes. A secret meeting by the lighthouse. A promise never spoken aloud.

He photographed each page, heart aching.

Aleksy arrived an hour later, windblown and quiet. "Find anything?"

Ren handed him the notebook. Aleksy read silently, jaw tight.

"He loved him," Aleksy whispered. "Even when it was dangerous."

Ren nodded. "They were brave."

Aleksy sat beside him. "Do you think we're brave?"

Ren looked at him. "I think we're trying."

They spent the afternoon scanning documents, piecing together timelines. Aleksander had been a student, a poet, a dreamer. Masaru had been his anchor.

One letter stood out—written in Japanese, tucked between Polish pages. Ren translated slowly.

"I saw you in the waves. I saw you in the wind. I will wait until the sea returns you."

Aleksy closed his eyes. "Masaru never stopped."

Ren touched his hand. "Neither will we."

They left the library as the sun dipped low, the sky streaked with gold. Aleksy walked Ren to the hostel, their steps slow, deliberate.

At the door, Aleksy paused. "Come to the lighthouse tomorrow. I want to show you something."

Ren smiled. "I'll be there."

That night, Ren printed the photos, pinning them to the wall. Aleksander's words, Masaru's letters, the cave, the cabin. A mosaic of memory.

He stared at the final photo—Aleksy, wind in his hair, eyes full of storm.

Ren whispered, "You're part of this now."

The wind outside answered softly.
