Chapter 162 - The Morning after the Moonlight

Daphne's steps were light as she made her way through the corridors of the palace.

When she reached the heavy doors of the Regent's study, two familiar voices carried out.

Marcus and Carlden.

The moment she stepped inside, the men straightened.

Both bowing deeply.

"Madam," Marcus said with a genuine smile, "belated congratulations. A blessed birthday to you."

"And many more to come," Carlden added warmly, his tone softer than usual.

Daphne's cheeks flushed faintly. "Thank you, both of you."

They exchanged a look, then excused themselves quickly, leaving the couple alone.

He was standing by the table, maps and parchments spread wide before him. But his hands had stilled, gaze fixed on her.

For a breath, he didn't move, didn't even blink.

"You…" His voice broke low, unsteady. "You walk in here looking like that and expect me to think of anything else?"

Her blush deepened, her fingers tightening around the orchid. "I didn't mean to interrupt. You seem busy."
