Chapter 167 - The Ball II

The music shifted, swelling into the grand waltz.

Couples glided onto the polished marble floor, jewels flashing beneath the chandeliers.

Daphne's heart fluttered when Alaric turned to her, his green eyes softened by a rare tenderness.

"Dance with me, Princess," he said.

Her smile curved, warm and sly. "Do I have a choice?"

His mouth twitched with the faintest smirk. "No."

He led her onto the floor, his hand secure at her waist, the other clasping hers.

The music carried them into motion.

Though she had learned all the steps, it was different when it was Alaric guiding her, his presence commanded her every movement, yet at the same time, he moved as if the entire hall had disappeared, as if she alone existed.

"You're staring again," she whispered as he spun her lightly.

"I told you once," he murmured, eyes locked on her face. "I'll never stop. You're too beautiful to ignore."

Her cheeks warmed, her lips parting with a soft laugh.
