The next day, I went early to the Occult Research Club to drop off Yuuto Kiba's bike.
Since it was very early, the only one who had already arrived at Kuoh Academy was Rias Gremory. She asked me for details about the mission, and I explained that everything went smoothly, but despite that, the monk didn't want to give me the signature.
Like Akeno, Rias told me that this was normal and that I shouldn't be discouraged. They had a policy of tolerance in some simple situations, especially with new clients.
So she gave me my second task, which was a little simpler: deliver flyers around town after my classes.
I felt like complaining, of course. I had a King piece and Boosted Gear! I should be on the same level as Rias and Sona! However, looking into Rias' serious eyes, I felt as if she was challenging me to do it.
Somehow, I felt that she knew my ego was big and that she wanted to teach me a "lesson."
So, I thought that if I could pass this test without any problems, she would trust me more. Her trust would be the path to more Hearts and, consequently, to me being able to fulfill the Mission [Conquer the Crimson Moon].
"If this is what it takes to earn her trust, I'll do it," I thought aloud when I arrived at the clock square in the center of Kuoh after class.
The streets in the center were bustling as usual, with the sound of cars passing by and people talking everywhere. Kuoh was a small town, at least I thought so when I compared it to Republic City from my world.
"Please don't hesitate to contact us!"
"Sir, how about some stress relief? Please get in touch."
"Ma'am, your back pain won't go away, will it? I think we can help you."
I tried several different ways to approach civilians and get them to take the flyers. At first, it worked very well, and the pile of papers in my hands decreased considerably, but as the sun was setting, more and more hurried people leaving work passed me by without even listening to what I had to say.
I still had at least fifty flyers left in my hands.
"My pride is the reason I'm here, and it's also the reason I'm staying here."
I didn't want to leave before I had handed out all the flyers Rias had given me.
"What if I just threw the rest of the flyers in a storm drain?" I considered, but quickly shook my head to dispel such thoughts. "It would be terrible if something happened and one of the club members was teleported into the sewer."
I decided that changing my approach was necessary. Standing still wasn't working, but walking to a less crowded place might. So that's exactly what I did. I walked a few blocks and slowly managed to hand out many more flyers. The stack of papers in my hands was getting smaller than before.
Then, as I turned a corner, I saw an unusual situation. A group of tall, young men, probably college students, were cornering a girl near a glass window.
Considering that two of them were holding bottles and the others' faces were red, anyone could easily assume that they had just left a bar. In addition, they were loudly saying things that people would normally say so directly.
"Hey, girl, what are those clothes? Is that some kind of nun cosplay or something?"
"HAHAHA! She looks shy, but shy girls are the sluttiest!"
"Tell me, why don't you come with us? We promise we'll take good care of you."
"Yeah, yeah, we have experience with taking turns."
"I-I... no..."
The girl was cornered because the four men were much bigger than her. People passing by who saw the situation barely glanced at the girl on purpose, probably because they didn't want to attract trouble to themselves.
I couldn't judge ordinary people for doing that, as I myself intended to ignore it and just continue handing out the flyers. However, when I looked closely at the girl being accosted in that way, I recognized her.
The clothes the men were talking about with such interest were predominantly black with white and gold details, but thanks to the white veil covering the girl's head and her blonde hair, she looked pure. Her large green eyes, which barely stayed still in that situation, would enchant any man, no matter how nefarious.
This girl wasn't actually cosplaying as a nun, because she was Asia Argento.
I massaged my temples. 'I didn't think the next small arc would happen so fast. Although it makes sense, since, come to think of it, I'm still in the same arc as the beginning of the story.'
However, something I couldn't ignore was how different the introductory scene already was from the original. I only changed things a little bit in comparison, and that had already been enough to change how things happened. What would happen if I started changing big things? Somehow, I was excited about it.
"Don't play hard to get, little girl. You're all alone here, so what's wrong with having a little fun with us?"
"I-I don't want to, I-I'm just a..."
"GHAHA! She really got into character!"
"If that's the case, let's get into character too. Taking her by force won't be a problem."
When Asia Argento saw a pair of hands coming towards her, she closed her eyes and gripped the handle of her suitcase as tightly as she could.
"Khum! Gentlemen, have you heard the word of Lord Jar Jar Binks?" I asked the group of drunk men, holding out a pamphlet to them.
"Huh?" They all turned around simultaneously.
"Jar what?"
"Argh, shit... Is that one of those annoying guys trying to recruit people for weird cults?"
"Get out of here, man. Can't you see we're busy?"
I turned my head diagonally. "Busy with what?"
One of the men turned to look at Asia and saw that she was no longer trapped against the window. He looked around, searching for her, and saw Asia taking the opportunity to quietly slip away.
"Hey, nun, come back here!" the man exclaimed and tried to reach her with one hand, but in the blink of an eye I stepped between Asia and the men.
"Why don't you take this and leave the nun alone?" I suggested, holding out a pamphlet to them once more.
It wasn't a bad solution, since if they were that excited they could hire a succubus, but from the way the man took the pamphlet and crumpled it up, it was clear that they only had eyes for Asia.
"Get out of our way, weirdo! We want to keep talking to the girl!" exclaimed another man, this one behind the one who crumpled my pamphlet.
"If you don't get out of the way, we'll run you over!"
"We're from the college basketball club! We won't have any trouble doing that!" said the last one, clenching his fists.
I smiled from ear to ear without showing my teeth. 'What a great opportunity to test one of my new skills.'
