Chapter 64 - Chapter 64 - Is It Just a Coincidence?

Otto views everything with rationality. Unless it involves Kallen, he can maintain his logic and make the most "correct" choice in any situation.

Theresa, on the other hand, views everything with emotion. Even if she knows a choice is the most correct one, she will often choose a more difficult path for various reasons.

Neither approach is wrong; it just depends on your perspective.

To use an analogy, it's like a video game. After a team fight, your teammates are either dead or on their last sliver of health. You arrive late to the scene and see a nearly full-health enemy team decimating your remaining allies. What do you do?

If it were Otto, he would first calculate the status and abilities of both sides and then decide whether to retreat or join the fight. However, the battlefield changes in an instant, and it's very likely that by the time he finished his cost-benefit analysis, only one option would be left.

Theresa, however, is on another level. She wouldn't bother calculating gains and losses. She'd just charge in without a second thought, playing for the sake of camaraderie.

Ahem, that was a bit of a tangent. Let's return to the main topic.

---o---

After Little Xuan answered the question incorrectly, the Q&A space promptly displayed a video. However, unlike the previous continuous scenes, this video was a series of short clips.

The first clip featured Kiana.

Dressed in her Void Drifter attire, she was leaning against a seat in a tram, seemingly talking to someone. Then, the group saw her expression turn sorrowful. Following that, the phrase came from her mouth:

"But I... I... can't do anything..."

The scene immediately shifted. Kiana instantly transformed into the Herrscher of the Void, sending the Honkai energy bomb up into the sky.

Next was the second clip, starring our beloved Raiden Mei.

She was seen running desperately under the night sky, as if chasing after something. She ran and ran, and ran some more, until she collapsed from exhaustion. Kneeling powerlessly on the ground, she cried out loud:

"...I can't do anything..."

The scene shifted again. A bolt of crimson lightning descended from the overcast sky. Raiden Mei transformed into the Herrscher of Thunder. With a single swing of her longsword, she sliced the massive monster before her into pieces!

By this point, everyone was starting to feel that something wasn't quite right.

So this freaking thing really is a power-up password?!

Then came the third clip, featuring our source of joy, Bronya.

In the video, Bronya and Einstein were having a conversation.

Bronya: "I'm sorry..."

Einstein: "Why are you apologizing?"

Bronya: "Bronya failed to stop him... Bronya can't do anything."

The scene shifted once more. Bronya activated her Herrscher of Reason form, rode her beloved motorcycle, and crashed right through a giant monster's body. Then, a countless barrage of cannons was unleashed, blasting the monster into dust.

Everyone: "....."

What the hell? Bronya, the King of Getting Owned, actually won a fight? Is this the power of the Herrscher Password?!

Finally, there was the fourth clip, from the adorable Seele.

The scene was familiar to everyone. It was still the Sea of Quanta, and it was still the crying girl.

Dark Seele: "That's enough. You can't do anything!"

And then... ahem, everyone present already knew what happened next.

With that, the video ended.

---o---

Now, the way everyone looked at Kiana, Bronya, and Raiden Mei had completely changed.

Even Fu Hua couldn't help but start to wonder if this phrase was truly the Herrscher Password. It was just too absurd. You say a sentence, and then you get stronger?

If I were to say it...

No, no, how can I be superstitious about this? It must all be a coincidence! I must believe in science!

"Th-This has to be a coincidence, right?" Raiden Mei said, her mouth twitching, her voice lacking conviction. After all, once is a coincidence, twice is an accident, but what do you call three and four times?

"Mm, it must be a coincidence. Bronya does not need this kind of superstitious power. Bronya can easily win fights on her own," Bronya nodded emphatically.

"Einstein, what are your thoughts?" Theresa looked at Einstein, tossing the ball into her court, wanting to hear the opinion of one of human history's greatest scientists on the matter.

"My thought is—I have no thoughts," Einstein said flatly.

"'I can't do anything.' Is this phrase special? No. Countless people in this world have said this phrase. If it worked for everyone, the world would have descended into chaos long ago."

"For example, if you and I say it right now, will it work? No."

"What truly makes it effective is the person."

"Kiana, Bronya, Raiden Mei, Seele..."

"First, you must understand one thing clearly. It is not this sentence that made them powerful and turned them into Herrschers. Rather, it is because they became powerful, became Herrschers, that this sentence appears special, even somewhat comical in retrospect."

"Do you all understand what I mean?" Einstein asked, looking at the group.

"Then why did we all say that exact phrase? Why not something else?" Kiana was still a bit confused.

Einstein shrugged and made a joke with her own brand of humor.

"Perhaps it was decided by the will of the great universe."

"I see." Persuaded by Einstein's explanation, the others nodded in understanding. That was a relief. They had almost started to believe that the phrase really did possess some kind of mystical power.

[Question 19: Please state who is Irene Adler's most passionate fan?]

[A: Hua]

[B: Otto]

[C: Conan Doyle]

[D: Stargazer]

---o---

"Irene Adler? Who's that?" Theresa asked, puzzled.

"It sounds like the name of a celebrity. And it's asking us to guess who her fan is," Himeko said, holding back a chuckle. "Speaking of which, why is Otto an option this time? I really can't imagine what he'd be like as a fan."

"Dr. Tesla, do you know anyone by that name?" Einstein asked, turning to Tesla.

"Do I look like the type to follow celebrities?" Tesla retorted, clearly just as clueless as the rest.

Everyone checked with each other for a moment and quickly discovered that no one recognized the name Irene Adler.

"Hm? This is rather strange," Bronya said with a frown. "All the previous questions, no matter what they were about, had some connection to one of us. But this time, aside from the names in the answers, the subject of the question is completely unknown to us."
