Chapter 97: The Power of the Black Dragon
When Rhodes returned to the courtyard with the dragon egg, Vivi and the others were immediately startled.
"Dragon... dragon egg?"
Vivi's expression was shocked. She had a mount, but it was countless notches inferior to this legendary dragon.
Yukiko's expression was astonished.
If such a creature were cultivated, it would probably be powerful enough to rule a great nation.
Unexpectedly, Rhodes casually placed the dragon egg on the grill, and seeing the fire wasn't strong enough, he added more firewood.
Did he seem to be planning to eat the dragon egg?
Vivi: "..."
Yukiko: "..."
"What a waste!"
Vivi couldn't help but say, but her eyes were fixed on the dragon egg, unable to move away.
This is a dragon egg!
Who in the world has ever eaten it?
Throughout the Great Pirate Era, few had ever seen a dragon, let alone tasted a dragon egg.
This scene was simply unimaginable!
Yukiko's eyes lit up, and without Rhodes' instructions, the little cook sprang into action.
Dragon eggs were large and difficult to grill, but Yukiko, a culinary prodigy, had handled eggs of such large creatures before, and she quickly gathered the necessary utensils.
Preparing the dragon egg!
"Well, one dragon egg probably won't be enough. Wait until I finish my dragon hunt."
With that, Rhodes suddenly soared into the air, using Geppo to leap several times in midair as he soared towards the distant battlefield.
"Wait..."
Vivi's expression changed, and before she could dissuade him, she stamped her foot in frustration.
Too impulsive.
Even though he was a renowned young warrior, it was utterly reckless to rush into battle against a dragon like that.
She had been on this island for several months.
The most common rumor she heard was about the island's dragons.
The black dragons, with their armored scales, were indestructible. Even a cannonball would leave at most a white mark. Their claws were incredibly sharp, easily tearing through steel.
They were incredibly swift and agile, possessing aerial superiority.
It was even rumored that they could breathe heat that could melt anything.
This super-creature is simply not something humans can contend with!
Vivi's face was filled with worry. "The hero has just arrived, and now he's challenging a dragon. What should I, a princess, do?"
Meanwhile, Rhodes, with his Geppo, approached the battlefield.
The battlefield was now in chaos, filled with humans trembling with excitement, ecstasy, and fear.
Using the buildings for cover, they attacked relentlessly, using swords, guns, and even nets to capture the black dragon, only to be ripped apart by a single claw.
"ROAAAAR!"
The black dragon, enraged, suddenly raised its head and erupted with a resounding roar. The terrifying sound waves even produced visible shockwaves, sweeping in all directions.
The dragon slayers, about to attack, were almost instantly blown away, their eardrums ruptured, leaving trails of bright red blood. They were likely deafened.
The next moment, the black dragon opened its mouth and suddenly released a scorching breath.
The air distorted.
This veritable dragon's breath instantly melted a house, igniting the earth into molten lava. As for the people hiding behind it, they were completely wiped out.
Wherever the dragon's breath passed, not a blade of grass grew; everything melted.
It carved a path over a hundred meters long through the harbor, steam rising and lava flowing. The scene was terrifying.
Everyone swallowed, their excitement instantly dampened.
It was terrifying!
After calming down, they realized a horrifying truth.
Slaying a dragon was glorious, but it was simply beyond their reach.
Against this legendary creature, they were no match for an ant, unable to sustain a single scratch.
Several pirate captains with bounties of seventy to eighty million beri, as well as the port's leaders, all wore grim expressions.
That breath had just slain their strongest fighters!
"We can't win, let's retreat," the leader shook his head bitterly. The gap was too great.
Their all-out attacks only left a faint bloodstain on the black dragon's body, barely enough to scratch its massive bulk. Yet, the black dragon's attacks easily destroyed them.
"This kind of creature, perhaps only the great pirates of the New World could handle," one of the pirate captains sighed.
"Even heavy artillery can barely break the dragon's scale defenses. This ultimate creature is simply not something a human can handle. Even if everyone in the harbor were to die, they wouldn't be able to slay this black dragon," someone was saying.
Suddenly, someone nearby shouted, "Look, someone's walking in the sky!"
"What?"
Everyone was startled, turning their heads to look, their faces filled with astonishment.
"Geppo?"
"Could it be a Marine expert?"
"But to stop this black dragon, it would take at least the top Vice Admirals from Marine Headquarters."
Everyone took a closer look, a sense of familiarity building within them, though they couldn't place it.
Newspapers, after all, weren't bounty posters. Not only were they black and white, but the image quality wasn't as good as the wanted posters, so they didn't recognize Rhodes at first.
It wasn't until Rhodes drew his sword, his entire body blazing with a dazzling, thunderous light like a small sun, that they suddenly remembered the world-renowned young swordsman from a while ago!
"It's that man!" everyone exclaimed, their faces lit with surprise. Then, an incredible thought suddenly flashed through their minds.
Could it be that today they were about to witness the birth of the second dragon-slaying swordsman?
"Impossible," the port manager shook his head. "This dragon has incredibly strong vitality and amazing defenses, capable of withstanding heavy artillery. Even Lord Rhodes would probably only be able to defeat it."
"And the black dragon can fly. The sky is its home turf, which is its greatest advantage. The lack of sustained flight with Geppo is a major drawback."
This analysis was logical, and the pirate captains all nodded in agreement.
By then, Rhodes had already arrived not far from the black dragon.
He looked down at the majestic and mysterious black dragon.
Compared to the medium-sized Sea King they had encountered last time, this black dragon, though much smaller, was noticeably more formidable. Its razor-sharp claws, armor tough enough to withstand heavy artillery, and breath that could kill with deadly force, truly lived up to its name.
Ordinary Vice Admirals from Marine Headquarters are simply not enough to deal with this kind of creature. Only top Vice Admirals like Flying Squirrel and Doberman have the ability to suppress it.
As for killing it, that was still uncertain.
"Unfortunately, you met me."
Rhodes shook his head slightly.
He slowly drew out Raikiri, and the azure sword body vibrated spontaneously under the illumination of thunder. The crisp sound of the sword resounded throughout the area, almost instantly attracting the attention of everyone in the port.
At the same time, the thunder on his body suddenly soared to ten meters high, as if the god of thunder had descended, and the light was as blazing as the sun, making it impossible to look directly at its majesty.
"ROAAAAR!"
The black dragon finally realized that something was wrong, and turned back suddenly. In its pair of vertical pupils, it reflected the image of Rhodes bathing in thunder and holding a sword in the air.
It was startled and a solemn look appeared in its vertical pupils, but it was not afraid. A breath several times larger than before spurted out of its mouth and rushed towards Rhodes like a torrent.
